  1. I would recommend a cheap casio for the gym. I find the metal gets irritating and uncomfortable as iget hot, so a casio with rubber strap would be best suited I feel. Also with the casio, you have less risk shaking something loose.

Crikey, the Casios are a popular suggestion.

Even Raymond, a man who is elegance personified, suggested it. Will I have to cave in? Thanks, b16a2!

Tangential website: You can download a programme from here to help you meet your exercise goals.

Incidentally, the chick is wearing the exact gym gear I just bought! Well, mine is Adidas...

    workoutgearan3.jpg

    You'll notice no watch. :p

  2. American tastes are usually quite different from this kind of melodramatical movies, as shown in your list, but I never meant it was bad... just different...

Quite so, Luisik. I understand, don't worry.

But your reply seemed like a non sequitur and the followup replies are backwards-logic (reasoning based on subsequent replies). Pugwash was describing this film, how great Marion Cotillard was, without any allusions to tastes or America. Then you replied "too melodramatic for our American fellows tastes"?

This is my guess about your train of thought:

You said that because no one had replied to Pugwash's post until you did. You think this forum is mostly made up of Americans, and therefore it resulted in a lack of interest to his post.

    Is this it?

    Just wondering.

  3. I suggest to you a very light watch (a CASIO G-SHOCK),and due to perspiration, is the best IMHO to do training session.

Magagne, thanks. :) (I miss your "V for Vendetta" avatar, BTW!)

I am reminded that Erwinner said he worked out with his 177h on a Toscana Fiero strap (!). That's another thing. For me, Rubber diver strap only, with a PAM. I can't imagine sweating into one of the pricey PAM straps.

Hope Nanuq answers. Can't believe he wears those vintage Rolexes whilst bicycling in Alaska. :o

  4. [*]I have the uncanny ability to move deftly between $60,000 and $60 chronographs, and

    Check. :)

[*]I work out at home, so I'm not trying to impress anyone:lol:

    Not check. ^_^

See, this is it. I live in South Beach, and the potential gym is located inside a hotel (it's got famous people like Puffy staying there all the time -- don't worry, this doesn't mean I'll be name-dropping if I see one. I'll take pics instead!). On the one hand, who cares, I'm there to work out.

But after all these rep watches I bought, can I really go back to my Nike running watch? Isn't that the POINT of rep watches: that they're more disposable than a gen?

    296383-1535.jpg

And Slai, aren't you scared to lose your watch when you put it down?? I would be.

Disposable yes, but still a hassle to lose.

The black Tag Tiger Woods is too masculine-looking for me (it's boxy), but I believe there's one in white. Thanks Perry, guys. :)

  5. Usually my PO or Seiko orange monster to the gym. I've worn my Cousteau on the odd occasion.

Neither of the first two watches are small. Does the bulkiness bother or hamper you?

I guess this is one of those times where being a woman REALLY makes it different for me, because I have weak wrists. I used to kickbox and run, so my thighs are overdeveloped, not my upper-body.

The Cousteau is a good suggestion, though I don't have one. Thanks!

  6. I'm joining a fitness club soon, and can you believe it -- no idea which watch to wear.

    Narrowed down choices include:

    - DSN 112 (too bulky?)

    - 42.5mm PO (too flimsy?)

    - HBB Aspen (too fashionista?)

That's why I went with that rather minging Swiss Army watch shown in the Wristcheck.

    swissarmyshufflefila2qu8.jpg

I need a watch which can withstand running, lifting, and saunas. Possibly a dip in the jacuzzi -- so obviously, no chronos. I may have to actually BUY a rep watch for this venture.

Your thoughts would be appreciated, but let me ask you in general:

What watch do you wear for working out, or jogging, bicycling, swimming, etc.?

  7. That might be one of my next purchase... I don't know why, but the Swiss flag on a watch just makes it look unique...

Yes, I love the Swiss "flag" there too! But I confess, don't like the watch enough to wear with any frequency. I got it as a present from a friend, so I feel badly.

On Repgeeks, someone already (kindly) said this wasn't the right watch to wear for the gym, etc.

Which actually is a thread idea... ;)

It's very comfortable, though, Pix. Maybe you can choose another model though.

    @FxrAndy: Que pasa, Mufasa? :lol:

  8. By the way, Victoria that strap is 26x26, do you think they have it in 26x24? Thanks.

Wow, I thought so, but I entered "Jules Verne" as my search string and didn't find ONE on sale up to March 2005, in that section. They had loads of 24/22s, and even some 27/22s which seem perfect for your Radiomir, but the latter, infrequently.

The going rate for a new 24/22 there seems to be $250 in good condition/new, up to $280. The 26/26s start at $310.

I'll keep an eye out for you, Alant!

@Richyman: I'm glad you love the Jules Verne! Here are some more shots of this super-glamourous strap:

    julesverne253ag6.jpg

    julesverne117hh4.jpg

If ever there was a $350 strap that was worth it, it is this.

  9. Hey..... what's wrong with MACAP? ;)

I use an M4 Stepless and couldn't be happier! IMO, it's the Mazzer Mini killer. B)

Oh God, MACAP this and MACAP that. That's all I hear in that forum.

Honestly, it's enough to make a girl go buy a Cimbali Max Hybrid. :D

I love a good cuppa and have a Rancilio Silvia and a rocky grinder but I mean how much can you talk about coffee!I feel a lot better about my watch neurosis now :disguise2:

    Check this out:

"In pondering my distribution woes (separate thread, and too lazy to link it so ptth) I started considering the problem from scratch.

You've basically got a powder that is as close as equipment permits to homogeneous particle size, in a cylindrical container. You want that powder to evenly distribute.

Wouldn't centrifugal force be the ultimate distribution method? Wouldn't that exert an even pull on all grinds, tugging them gently inward (and downward, thanks to gravity) until they were dispersed evenly throughout the basket?

I'm not thinking of a megabucks, megaprecise high speed centrifuge. Actually that would probably mess things up by separating out beans with different densities from the blend. I'm thinking practical, home-use. Just something-- something like... aha! What about a salad spinner rigged up to gently hold the basket? Maybe use a light tamp to level the top so nothing goes flying out, and then let the physics do the rest of the work.

Anyone out there got a salad spinner, or something else that can do a similarly controlled rotation, and want to do some experimenting?"

Now TELL ME that's not like us dissecting the new Asian 7750 with running seconds at 3?

@Watchdude below: :o Can I move in with you?? I come bearing watches and straps!

You know, I can just imagine the British reaction to this thread. It's rather like Ryyannon's. This recent 1990s BoBo fascination with espresso makers, grinders, and beans, is soooo American, it hurts.

It's a bit like Panerai watches...

  10. I love US TV shows. I can spout swathes of Buffy or Simpsons quotes and can probably scare die-hard TV fans with trivia from Friends, CSI, NCIS or whatever show you like.

Sorry, mate. You're on your own there. I have never watched Buffy, Friends, or even a full episode of Seinfeld.

British television is where it's at!

  11. Threadjacked at knifepoint! Watch out for Chinese replicas with laser etched Damascus pattern...

I can't believe you said that, Doc! I just purchased a beautiful Henckels knife set, but after checkout I noticed they were made in China. Sucks.

Still, a Wristcheck in the offing.

@UB7: Capressos, Shuns, Nespressos, Hublots. Dude, you're ALL about quality!

  12. FRIDAY

V is back, and I'm wearing his Vintage strap on the CzarCzar PAM 118! Ain't it gorgeous? :p

    pam118vstraplvglassesqe2.jpg

Tobacco dial compliments V's browny-reddish strap nicely!

    SATURDAY

I'm joining a fitness spa in February, and this is the Swiss Army watch I've chosen for working out. Eh. ^_^

    swissarmywristiepool1jk2.jpg

My cute Fila trainers, and an iPod Shuffle because the big one slows me down.

    SUNDAY

Sundays are bling days for me, so I'm taking out my bad girl -- the Rolex Datejust with black dial and ice.

    rolexdjcartierpenelopevo3.jpg

I could be naked, but I would still look good with only a Rolex on. :animal_rooster:

    rolexdjblackblingwristiwq2.jpg

    ...have a good one! :p

@Hyster & Scoobs: Thanks lads!! I love those two pics too, and the PAM 118 especially. It's so smooth when you wind it. Swiss guts. ;)

  13. 0111_112132.jpg

Sorry about the cameraphone; this one of my many watches that will be locked in a drawer forever when my reps arrive. Colorful, no?

    :o:clap:

NIXON WATCH! The Chalet? Whichever it is, it certainly makes a change from these Wristies.

(Lab tech? Oh hello, "Doc" Savage. Pathologist!)

  14. Glad that all is fine for you Victoria. Btw you have any good source for Paneria OEM straps?

I have one for the OEM Bordeaux, though the chap didn't have one available for TeeJay. He would look into it, he said though.

In general, I look at the Risti Acc. Corner:

    hxxp://www.network54.com/Forum/353393/

Right now, a strap which would look killer on your Radiomir is this on "sale" for $380 (you can probably offer him $350). The very covetted Jules Verne 26mm strap:

    julesvernegatorun2.jpg

I have yet to buy one, but I will, I will...

Moving on, yes it's a PDA phone the HTC 838Pro, camera wise it's a bit lacking compared to what is available in the market now but I'm happy with my phone as it serves my needs well.

I just (re-)bought my Nokia phone, because I hate change. It does everything a Crackberry does, but I have to say, I'll have to look into your phone when I'm in the market for one! Those shots were as clear as FxrAndy's Alps one.

  15. An iPod.

    With some decent earbuds.

    A really nice Shuffle, e.g.:

    28801363ada03a3abe4ce010.L.jpg

Only problem I can see, is that he needs to have a dedicated computer since it will erase your songs if connected to a different one, each time. Something which depends on his deployment situation (guys take turns at field HQ computers, to send emails to-and-fro. Not always do you get the same computer).

Charging it might be tricky too, unless his CO allows him to leave it plugged in for a while.

I'm guessing if he's in charge of 220 men and women, he might be a Major, so it's okay. ;)

    And my best regards.

The great thing about that, is you don't need to plug that in. The best things in life truly are free.

  16. Hi Victoria!

Thanks! That's a good Idea! I'll shop around for one today and I'll include this in a package I'm sending him!!!

    Excellent! You're a great friend.

These men and women also need encouragement and human warmth. From my cousins, I know that they LONG to receive snail-mail letters. Something more personal than an email. I'm sure you would, but don't forget to write him in long-hand, so that his name will be read out when the post arrives. :)

My cousin. My hero, serving alongside Britain's finest.

    (Editted photo)

God, I'm crying as I write. I love your buddy without knowing him...

  17. Hi all! I Need your help!

My best friend who stayed in the service (we use to be in together!) much longer than he should, is being

re-assigned to Iraq (just got transferred stateside from Korea two months ago!) and I'm in a dilemma on

what to give him as a send off gift (please don't say "give him a watch", he's not a watch guy....more on Freddy's

    Uzi type Gent...).

My cousin is serving in Afghanistan, after a tour of Iraq. His sister gave him UV-blocking Armani sunglasses. He really appreciated that, coming in handy in both countries. That's my suggestion.

Please relay my deep appreciation to your buddy, HikeUSA. God bless him.

  18. My apologies. In the Top Gear episode where he moves the bezel to annoy James, i swear i saw a 42mm bezel style. I've just checked it again on my Sky+, and it is indeed a 45mm.

He's a huge man (6'5"?), and the PO looks just right on him.

Clarkson teased James May (when not?) by twirling the bezel around, so the pearl doesn't point to the 12 marker. May has a phobia about that...actually, so do I. It has to be JUST at 12, or else it drives me banshee-mad.

(S10E1, in case you're interested in seeing that)

Would love to know what bigass watch the Hamster wears. Outsized Cartier Tank, it looks like. Mind you, he looks like he's 5'2". ;)

@Bigpops: Wow! Just realised you and I targetted the same things in our replies: height and the twirling of the bezel. Your watch or mine?

    @The Mentalist: Thanks. :)

I saw Pugwash's screenshots, but the newer S10 episodes have Hammond wearing this white-dial, more rectangular watch than the Tag Monza below:

    richardhammondwatchhu9.jpg

...here are two of James May and his watch. A Movado??

  19. I love Jeremy Clarkson for his unfettered attitude, which if he were an American presenter, would've had him fired quicker than you can say Don Imus.

But I'm in rare opinion with the Grauniad when they mentioned that he's not given to "considered opinions". That was plainly shown when Clarkson insisted that sharing one's bank account with the world is no problem -- confident no one can do anything with it, like say take money from it.

He did so after discs on 25 million people containing sensitive info were lost/stolen, and people were worried their info was compromised. He said, Rubbish! and printed his bank account info in his weekly tabloid column.

Well guess what? It was hacked, and some wag debited

  20. Since I don't have a dealer section I'm a little unsure of the etiquette for posting my straps. I don't want to break the rules.

You and Tootall should. And V. The latter posts his straps in the Panerai thread, so I'm guessing you can too.

(Beautiful strap, Peepshow! Love the billiard balls shot)
