  1. BEAUTIFUL! Many happy returns, and congrats on the forthcoming graduation.

You know, when I started this rep watch caper, I was adamantly against Rolexes. Had put mine away, and thrust them to the back of my mind.

But really, there's nothing like a Rolex is there? It's just the gold standard of watches. I'm so happy you found your dream watch, at last.

    Love the gloves. B)

Yes, the hologramme thing had been discussed here before. The plastic card you picture below, is its replacement, yes?

    sub5.jpg

This is much bigger package than the Rolex packages I've received with my gens, and small wonder at these prices. :p

    Many congrats again!

  2. MONDAY

This Wristcheck is all about "Zings". So if you like my post, please rate it with a ZING! :p

I hated the new 2007 Rolex Milgauss when I first saw Stilty's post on it. It looked blingy, and plasticky. That orange "stinger" seconds hand just made it worse.

    rolexmilgaussgenjk1.jpg

The 2007 Milgauss reps I found were FUGLEE, so that didn't help. :yuk:

Until...one day...RWG Member Supermanx was offering his Milgauss for sale here! :Jumpy:

    rolexmilgaussdialsi6.jpg

What a beautiful watch. I even like the stinger now!

    rolexmilgaussstingereg1.jpg

Love it or hate it, the deep rehaut with the engraved "Rolex".

Two shots by the pool, rippling like a zing.

    The Wristie! Zing! :spiteful:

    TUESDAY

With my constant shots of the DSN 112, you'd never know I owned two PAM 111hs from Andrew, but I do!

    pam111iwsuissewristie20iu6.jpg

Picked up a strange, TWO-TONE leather strap for it by IW Suisse. Yep, shaped like a ZING.

    iwsuissettbucklereversexx9.jpg

You like? Betcha Jfreeman likes the other one!

    iwsuissettcj0.jpg

And this is what I like: the biggest ZING of 2007, by King Juan Carlos of Spain, "Por que no te callas??"

    iwsuissepqntcshirtcz5.jpg

    YES!! ZING!!! :tu: :tu:

  3. It is an Erricson K800i

Just bought a mobile (stuck to my old Nokia), but that is surely the best cameraphone in the world.

Since it's Sony-Ericsson, of course, the numbering of your photo starting with the tell-tale DSC, makes sense now. I see you literally must've gotten this mobile, and gone up the Alps since it's low digits.

Just one thing, FxrAndy. Any chance of a wallpaper of any of these beauties? I need something snowy for Christmas. :p

  4. So did I. Got one of the white faced models. Very nice indeed for the money. I had to ask Narikaa how to adjust the bracelet, as I couldn't figure it out. His advice was faultless, and I had removed two links in no time at all. I would definately recommend the ladies Link to anyone.

Slarti, you wore me down. By-Tor wore me down. By-Tor's girlfriend wore me down. Uma Thurman wore me down.

Just ordered one from Narikaa. Black-faced, just like I like my men.

UPDATE: Just read that he has only a few left, in black and blue only. So if you're dawdling about ordering one for your good lady wife, girlfriend, or gal pal, pull a Nike FAST.

  5. Islam itself, as practiced by the majority today, is at odds with the notion of a secular government. There are very few examples of majority Muslim countries that do not mix the two.

I agree with the majority of what you said about Christian "wants" in public life, but I wonder just how much ISLAM is incompatible with secular government and/or democracy?

Isn't it more correct to say that Shar'ia and democracy are perhaps incompatible, but not Islam and democracy?

60 years ago, the militaristic Shinto religion and the cult of the Emperor of Japan were intertwinable. Democracy was impossible. Today, the Shinto religion is still around, but democracy flourishes in Japan.

It is my hope that one day, democracy will reign in the Middle East. And I hope Islam will be around too, to give their people the succour needed since democracy isn't easy, unmessy, or without pitfalls. Inshallah...

  6. I will take some comparison shots for you tomorrow, with a varied selection of watches, including some of my father's.

    A promise kept:

    bigwatchesga8.jpg

    L to R: 15mm Lady's vintage Rolex Datejust; 26mm Rolex Air-King; 40mm Rolex Submariner; 44mm PANERAI 112; 42mm Hublot Big Bang RG; 47mm PANERAI 127 'Fiddy'; 48mm Breitling for Bentley

In today's tastes climate, the Panerai isn't a behemoth. In fact, it is the vintage DJ that looks completely out of place, even for a lady.

  7. Doubtful. Modern day Islam does not jive with the modern day. Christianity, on the other hand, has changed with the times. Christianity is no threat to anyone. Whether or not you agree with Christian beliefs, you don't have to worry about getting beheaded or blown up in the name of Jesus.

You'll get people saying that Christianity IS a threat, to reproduction, to science, to education, to many things, CT. It's the last bit you wrote, that is irrefutable.

I just want to say this last bit.

TeeJay is the lone representative of his religion on this forum. As such, he has tried to tell us how much his conversion to Islam has meant to him, and how much it is misunderstood today, by the violence the religion spawns in some of its faithful.

I'm sure every type of incident like the Teddy Bear one, is a dagger through his heart. It can't be easy, and definitely few people would like to be in his place here.

BUT QUITE APART FROM ANY problem today, this conversion he has made should be respected, because like many converts, he has the right kind of "zeal" -- the open eyes, mind and heart of someone who knowingly transforms himself into something else than what he was.

This doesn't take away from all the horrible things which Muslims do around the world, with which respect, must also sometimes be touched on.

But it does mean that if Islam is to mean anything in our world, it also must be acknowledged to include the gentle, the kind, and the receptive like TeeJay.

Were those 1.8 billion Muslims more like him, I daresay this world would be a different place in 2007.

  8. to everyone who guessed 082.. close, but not quite

it's another "homage" one.. it is a 082 but I requested specifically.. to have the blue hands

Ahh, gotcha. Maxmilian still has the only real 082 rep, then. :p

I did see your other post about it, where you said you had an HKTAN strap coming in. I'm guessing this is not an OEM black calf, but a DSN strap, then.

The more I think about the 082, the more I want it, but perhaps given its limiting strap selections, it doesn't make too much sense. It's not versatile like the 249 is, with similar blue hands.

  9. This is the only post which called me back to reply, snipped because it'll go off topic with Irish-Americans etc.

Now that's a made up figure if ever I've heard one. :-)

If you look at real terrorism figures, you'll find that in the recent decades, most terrorist acts were done by separatists or Christians. Look at the Spanish, Irish and German terrorists for examples of non-islamic terror.

ETA, the IRA, and presumably you mean Baader-Meinhof's heydeys were clearly another. It's not 1978 anymore.

Try the Tamil Tigers, and you'll be closer to the mark in 2007.

Ps. Islam hasn't caught up to Christianity in murders, human suffering, degradation, torture, and execution of women by a long shot.

Christian countries have evolved into constitutional monarchies, democracies, disallow slavery, have granted universal sufferage, have taken stands against capital punishment and in one festive snow-driven country in Scandinavia, they even have outlawed halal meat because of its inherent cruelty in slaughter.

Execution of women? The Salem Witch Trials? We have to go back to this, to make a point?

How about just letting women drive a frikkin car TODAY.

Since the 1500s, there has been no contest which culture driven by which religion has been the more, no not humane, but the more progressive.

If you don't mind, I'll keep my bikinis, and my driving license.

Oh, and I quite like naming my teddy bears after religious leaders. Here's hoping my Church and fellow congregrants won't cut off my head because of it.

  10. At its very purest level, any religion is a marvellous and shining thing. For that matter, so is a flower or Ford Edsel, but unlike religion, they just won't go the distance. Those touched by this understanding are forever transformed - in the best possible way - even if the remainder of their lives may be as ordinary as anyone else's.

What a gorgeous paragraph, brimming with illumination.

Tangentially, I seem to love the RWG minds that are touched by Buddhism or Zen, in some way. Interesting.

Personally, and judging from what he's said and what he's attempting to accomplish, I'd rather have Teejay in my corner in my hour of need - and probably during much less dramatic moments as well - than many of the people who are trying to question his faith in himself and the path he's chosen.

    I agree.

However, I confess it makes it easier to agree and want to side with TeeJay, not just because of the brand (if you will) of Islam he has converted to, namely that of the teachings of the Holy Qu'ran and not the hadith as well, but because of the person he is, irrespective of his religion. If he were a Wahhabist, it would be more difficult.

The same is true of anyone who is a fundamentalist, be it Islamic, Christian, Orthodox...but you'll note I can't say Buddhist. :)

Anyway, it's been a great thread overall. Loads of fun. We'll see what tomorrow brings and if I change my mind, but I bid it adieu.

  11. Panerai no have double sided AR.....

Newer GEN models have single side AR like the 111, 112, 113 ...some of the older GEN models NO AR....like the 27A

Tech, in fairness Rxus did implore: "(please consider my noobness when reading this)".

I agree with the rest of what he wrote. I especially would love to know why Davidsen can't make a CG without that tell-tale lever dimple. I have a cheapo 217 from TWP which doesn't have this problem. It looks gen. :)

  12. Strange. When I think of 'fringe extremism' I picture the klan rallies where 5-10 people show up from their side. Actions speak louder than words.

Problematic example of a fringe terror group. Here's a counter one:

Fringe groups in Islam have always been the case. If you read the otherwise hilarious Dan Brown books (the best of the lot is Angels & Demons), one touches on one such fringe Islamic group, the Hashshashin. As most people know, the word "assassin" comes from that.:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashshashin

"Most Muslim contemporaries were obviously suspicious of these "Holy Killers"; in fact they were described using the term Batini. The term was sometimes used pejoratively to refer to those, especially Ismaili, who distinguished an inner, esoteric level of meaning (batin) in the Qur'an. This constant religious estrangement would eventually see them go so far as allying with the Occidental Christians against Muslims on a number of occasions. [...]

The group transformed the act of murder into a system directed largely against Seljuk Muslim rulers who had been persecuting their sects. They were meticulous in killing the targeted individual, seeking to do so without any additional casualties and innocent loss of life, although they were careful to cultivate their terrifying reputation by slaying their victims in public, often in mosques. Typically, they approached using a disguise. Their weapon of choice being a dagger, they rejected poison, bows and other weapons that allowed the attacker to escape. For unarmed combat, the Hashshashin practiced a fighting style called Janna which incorporates striking techniques, grappling and low kicks. However, under no circumstances did they commit suicide, preferring to be killed by their captors."

This could be Al-Qaeda today word for word:

"The group inspired terror out of all proportion to their scant numbers and territory. The members were organized into rigid classes, based upon their initiation into the secrets of the order. The devotees constituted a class that sought martyrdom and followed orders with unquestioned devotion, orders which included assassination. Because of the secretive nature of the order, it has often been invoked in conspiracy theories."

Proto-anarchists, using their religious background to incite terror amongst both the powers-that-be (whom they considered corrupt and un-Islamic) and the general populace. You never knew who or what they would target.

So these kinds of terror tactics can be a part of Islam, and yet not.

What is true is that the Hashshashin were only eradicated not by fellow Muslims, but by the Mongol hordes who conquered them. I'm sure you can understand my inference.

    Atat

  13. Thanks! (I think.....?)

Yes, a compliment! Take it, or leave it, bubeleh. :p

Waking up veeery slooowwww today. 1st order of the day (day 6): go to perfect clones , get the tracking #, pull up ems.com.cn, and once again stare dumbfounded at the phrase "despatch at sorting center". Then, in despair, I will take the same tracking # to the USPS tracking site where it will only say "foreign acceptance".

Back to the window to look for the mailman. I will pass the time by periodically cupping my hand around my Bvlgari and checking out the lume.

See. You have a writer's eye for setting the scene. I can almost see you cupping your hand over the Bvlgari now.

  14. Hi folks,

I'm interested in a PAM... but i fear that 44-45mm is too big for my wrists.. I generally wear 42mm watches. Does anyone have side-by-side pics of their PAMs next to smaller watches ? I need a visual :)

Kenmasters, members here are tired of hearing me say this, but I have 5.7" or 14.47 cm wrists. If I can pull off a 44 PAM, anyone can.

I will take some comparison shots for you tomorrow, with a varied selection of watches, including some of my father's. PAMs wear small, especially as pointed out below, the Titaniums.

  15. 082-onwrist-a.jpg

NO WAY, you got the 082! Maxmilian move over! :bleh:

It's beautiful. Goes equally well with tans and darker straps (OEM black calf?), I see. Oh man, DSN here I come...

    @UB7: Trade ya! 83F and sunny. :p

    hbbsunnymiamiau2.jpg

P.S.: Nahhh. That fire is unbeatable, great watch too. I'd skip the Bailey's, but double the hot choco. Plus put on some Perry Como. :)

  16. i realy did not understand that one Vic.

Mindful of Ken's kindly reproach, we could start another thread, or perhaps I should PM you privately?

Just to say that my reply will mention that all of this mindset has to do government thinking it is acting in benefit of its populace, in as humane a way as possible for those who or which cannot think or act for themselves. Your dog's breed is considered vicious and therefore poses a threat not only to itself, but because it cannot control itself, also to others. In short, it's more humane to take away something, than to let violence occur.

(This single point, BTW, is the salient difference between modern Europe and modern America, and the root of all its disagreements -- just how much can government meddle in its private citizens' lives to better it, according to its lights)

Shall we PM each other further? :)

EDIT: I can understand basic written Bokm
