  1. Anyone else have this compulsion or should I turn in my pilot's license and commit myself?

Baby, check this out. Not sure if you were around when I posted my poll:

    Bought Gens 1st, which led to Reps [ 57 ] ** [30.32%]

    Bought Reps 1st, which led/will lead to Gens [ 47 ] ** [25.00%]

    If I had the money, I would only buy Gens [ 28 ] ** [14.89%]

    I would buy Reps even if I had the money [ 56 ] ** [29.79%]

Then there's this thread Who Prefers Reps to Gens by Dieselpower:

And Anton's post (where is he??) which led me to post my polls:

Does a rep lead you to purchase gen?

  2. here in miami that stuff is way cheaper.. Buddy of mine got married last year I bought him a bottle of Don P for like 120 or 140 and the cristal was like low low 200's

And yeah it's mostly hype, but if youve never done it why not.

I can attest to the fact that it's cheaper in Miami too. Corner of US1 and 17th, there is a Citgo station which sells them for $125. Well, they did the time I went there. I boycott Citgo as a rule... <_<

  3. Hi all!

Been away for a while, but I will be spending much more time here. Hope to get to know you all better. B)

Hey Beo! If indeed that is my buddy from Repgeeks, I give you a hearty welcome to RWG! If it isn't, I still give you a hearty welcome to RWG!

Enjoy your stay! (He's got great taste guys)

  4. MONDAY

I don't think anyone really reads my intros to each photo. :p So today, no talk. Just rep watch pics.

  5. Some forum folks like Lady V may have had better luck with collectors making up errors in terms of offering strap switches, extra straps, parts, etc, but this may be due to such members being high volume clients.

This is true, sadly, Toadtorrent. They know I'll be back, and a lot.

As I said earlier, it shouldn't be the case in life. All buyers should be treated alike, but life doesn't work that way.

What gets me is this -- do they (whomever, the staff member that put it in the package, even) think we won't notice? That SOMEONE SOMEWHERE will say, okay, well there we are, and not complain?

Thus they'll be rid of that godawful piece, like jkarpas got? Ugh, God, come on. We're not fools.

@JKarpas: On paper, you should get credit for everything, including shipping. But yeah, usually they give you a nicer watch and that's it. However, since we have options, I wouldn't return to that seller if he doesn't compensate you in some way, for ALL your monetary losses.

  6. Where's Rico when we need him?!

OH! Hang on, this reminds me. The other day I was in a seedy part of Miami, waiting for my mum to come out of this shop, when I notice this Rico Suave Hispanic guy kept giving me the eye. And in fact, licking his lips at me.

All he needed was a crotch-grab.

I was reminded of John Leguizamo's standup routine in drag, where he shouted, "Take a pic-tcha! It'll last you longa!".

    So I did. :lol::tu:

    latinloverxn0.jpg

You make me hot, papi!! Especially the lycra Kelly green shorts.

Pic was from a shoot for GQ, which also includes a same-day shot piece on one of his chosen charities, the RNLI (excellent choice Mister Bond :tu:). In the accompanying interview he mentions he's tied up until December and then after the holiday he starts shooting on Bond 22.

Ahh, gotcha. I searched all over for that thread, and couldn't find it, so thanks for remembering.

  7. Actually, it was a photoshoot on a clifftop hence the harness (insurance requirements). Bond 22 hasn't started shooting yet ;)

    Ah, but is this true?

Didn't someone recently post a still photograph suggesting that in Bond 22, the PO is not going to be the watch of choice? It was IIRC, a shot of Craig in character as 007.

Now, it could be that they were doing preliminary photography, and the cameras weren't officially rolling.

  8. No I didn't catch this sorry, but still can't imagine what mischief you're talking about that would make you feel this concerned? What, have you had threats or something? I sincerely hope not, and really it isn't my intention to take you down a peg but I just can't help but roll my eyes and think you're being a wee bit hysterical at the 'threat' of 'trouble' for those that frequent there with the same user name.

I just read something else you wrote, and that's what counts for me. Stay tuned for a more personalised response, as I am just getting in from the pool. My head is too boiling with the sunrays to make sense (that's my story even when it rains, though).

    P.S.: Thanks. :)

I still don't get why the subject of reps winds them up so much anyway, it's a free world and it's not like it's their intellectual copyright. It's not even about scrimping and saving, I think it goes much deeper into their collective psyche.....veering towards jealousy and their own self-importance as justified by their ownership of expensive possessions. Pathetic really.

No. Just no, DBR. Sincerely no.

People can rationalise, intellectualise, and justify downloading mp3s, torrents, photographs, owning rep watches, whatever. God knows I do. But once you lose sight of the fact you're doing something wrong, that slippery moral slope becomes a mountain.

As I said before and like Neil has just put more eloquently - who gives a rat's ass what THEY think.

If you're a human bulldozer as TTK is, and frankly, as I am, you don't care. I personally have tonnes of balls, the kind which allows a girl to come to an all-male forum, and more than hold her own.

    Not everyone is like that.

Not everyone can be like that.

Not everyone should be dismissed because they're not like that.

I'm registered there but have to admit in general, they come across as self-righteous pompous tosse'rs, who know little or nothing about horology. Leave Finepics alone to his new 'friends' they really do deserve each other. See how long he lasts, as in my experience people who play both sides of the fence inevitably end up digging their own grave anyway.

You know what? You're right. I have a hunch he's going to come a-cropper sooner than later. I think most of us do too.

But the thing you and others said about the Risti forum, about them being a bunch of snobbish arrogant tossers, well guess what? A lot of people think that about us.

Ask around the other rep watch forums: RWG.CC has the reputation of being full of arrogant snobs, full of themselves, unhelpful to newbies asking questions. We're also known as being clannish to the point of being cliqueish.

    Is this true?

    Not on your life.

We have standards. We have people who respect horology, and adore their hobby. We also have people who respect each other to bits, and that creates a beautiful atmosphere of camaraderie.

So be careful what you think about a forum, people. It may just be we cast that same long shadow ourselves.

  9. The fish symbol, Ichthys (Greek acronym), was used by christians near the beginning to identify themselves to other christians when their then-heathen religion was frowned upon by the powers of the day. It probably stems from Jesus's disciples being fishermen as well as other reasons. Batman must be religious - "Holy mackerel!" Incidentally, the fish symbol dated back to ancient religions as well.

EXACTLY. I was going to write everything thusly, except the Batman thing which was genius. ;)

BTW, it's not JUST that his Disciples were fishermen. It's that Jesus Christ was a fisher of men. We are his fish, as Christians.

Though we don't now have them on our cars, I too had the fish symbol on my car to denote my active Roman Catholicism.

The symbol that is popular now, the cross, stemmed from the Egyptian ankh. This was not a christian symbol for around 2-3 centuries I think. There are strong possibilites that a Jesus was not hung on a cross.

To some people, there are strong possibilities Jesus didn't exist. We all have agendas.

The ancient Greek word for cross back when the bible was written actually meant stake. Either way, they believe he was killed. The cross obviously makes a far better symbol than a stake.

Yes, and in the original Hebrew the commandment we have translated as "Thou shalt not kill" is really "Thou shalt not murder", a very different meaning indeed.

Damn(!), I know too much about religions, and believe in none! :g:

Better to know, and not to believe, than not to know and still talk.

  10. Ok i own 2 gen watches myself that cost me alot of pain and money(over 4000$ each) to get so yes i understand but i DO NOT understand why people on risti woud like to have a scammer among them and look down on a person that admits he is a activ poster on RWG to try help them of that fact that he is innded a scammer amongs them.

    You wrote this:

"what is the big deal its not death row for owning a rep and i cant realy understand your point at all."

To people who saved forever to buy a watch of their dreams, owning a rep watch may just be the WORST thing any person there can do.

Well, perhaps the worst thing is to sell one there. And anyone who is a dual member of this forum, or is outted there as having owned reps will never be able to sell their stuff again. Who is going to trust a person like that, they'll think.

There are mistakes. There are sins. And then there are crimes.

To some people, especially if they are in the "right", it's all the same.

I will never be ashamed of being a member of RWG and neither shoud other people.

This we can agree on. And I said so publicly on a number of occasions. This is why I have the same forum ID everywhere.

  11. SC isn't the place to go if soft straps is your thing. If you want soft and thick I highly recommend the Carrier and/or Copperplate straps from Micah at Vintager Straps (dot com).

Hold that thought, guys! If you want to see how they look, before buying, wait a sec.

I had set aside my Micah Copperplate strap for Monday's Wrist-Check. Coincidence, Chieftang!
