  1. I understand the publisher got a little something out of the deal too. :whistling:

    Good! I love payola. ;)

No, seriously though. This gentleman (a regular at TZ) "published" his Lange1 story in a standalone web version. Now he sold the rights to it to psst mag? He said he gave the rights only to TZ to reproduce the article. HMMM. He really should remove this link, if so.

Either way, cracking good story. I just thought it was a rather geeky WIS' thorough, but fascinating account of buying a Lange 1 at Cellini -- had no idea he was doing it for a published story! How do I get in on this racket?

@TEEJAY: WELCOME BACK!! I see you reading the thread. Answer: not yet. :( Got a cold! More later!

  2. Good thing that while ordering the cake you didn't slip on your desk and say, "Ouch my Balls", or that would be part of the message as well.

What if the co-worker ordering was a woman. :o

More yucks, but never as good as the original!

  3. These are our heros. We shall not forget them.

I cannot tell you how much being on this forum means to me. I hope never to foresake you for any gen forum, no matter what.

Just now, I was at a gen forum and read with sinking heart the disgusting words aimed at the US Marine Corps. I won't relay what they said. It was diabolical in tone.

I'm just thankful that those who have their reservations about these kinds of threads (and I know there must be some), have the decency to restrain themselves and not pile on needlessly. Having transgressed myself recently, I find that exceptional of you.

Thanks guys. May you all have a restful Armistice/Poppy/Veterans Day.

  4. The sex trade is disgusting and really kind of the dark side of this place....Thailand has a rich and fascinating culture that goes far beyond fake watches and taudry sex trade.

Hear hear. I've always been fascinated by Thailand, and Thai culture. I'm very sorry they are known as the world's biggest whorehouse (pace Macao), because they have so much to offer, starting with a charming people...

Psst. Awesome watch! I want. ;)

  5. Oh God, Giada! Another beautiful voice.

Maybe her grandmother, Silvana Mangano, might've been more beautiful. But it should've been Giada de Laurentiis not that unrefined Italian elf, Rachael Ray, who Oprah should've propelled to the big time.

Not a big watch person, I've noticed. But here she is wearing a...RADO??

    Che carina.

  6. No need for this - as soon as Simon_uk submitted his post on Risti I approached the mods there and explained the situation. I did not go into specific details, suffice it to say that I fully admitted that some of what was posted was true but much of it untrue and grossly distorted. I voluntarily offered to resign from there as I have no wish to involve their board being used as a vehicle to settle scores. To sum up their reply they appreciated my coming to them but felt that as the situation was largely of my own making (which I don't deny) and in order to maintain a harmonious forum, they would prefer me not to post again (although they have not forbidden me totally). They have also said that they will immediately remove any such further posts made about me.

First, good on you for coming back here and taking whatever is coming to you, good and bad. Given the calibre of people on RWG, I'll think you know there are a lot of people who, no matter how they have felt these months after your departure, are willing to give you every chance to restitute yourself. Ajoesmith has said as much, and I'm sure others will too.

You're very lucky, you know. I know many another forum that wouldn't have given you this chance.

Finally to Simon_Uk - whoever you are - perhaps you should also be thanked as without your intervention I suppose you would not be reading this and my head would still be in the sand.

Yes, it would've been preferrable if it hadn't come to that.

If you had taken the bull by the horns and come back, facing the music out of your OWN, unprompted initiative, rather than have been outted as a reformed rep-owner at a gen forum, who had left others holding the baby elsewhere.

    But hey.

We all need a little push now and again, don't we? None of us is perfect. Wishing everything ends well, since I have no dog in this fight. I just want to see people here suitably recompensed, and the atmosphere at peace.

However, Mark, I WOULD be interested in knowing what prompted you to post on Risti in the first place?

You must've known that there are dual members, both gen PAM owners, and lurkers who want to be at some point, who might've known about your problems on the fora before.

Why did you take the chance? Or were you tired of not being involved in watch forums and decided to throw caution to the wind?

It's an itch that sometimes needs to be scratched, I know. When you love watches, you want to be amongst your own.

  7. Where did you get that beaver strap from?

Perhaps from ABP (Atelier du Bracelet Parisien)? That's where mine is from. EDIT: Correction! It's from Camille Fournet.

    camillefournetbeavertaitv9.jpg

@Estaban: That looks SO beautiful. You must look very handsome wearing that!

  8. Here's Bobby Flay wearing that Gold DJ you spoke of, its_urabus! :)

    bobbyflaygr1.jpg

And the impeccably dressed (for an NBA game) Chef Flay near actor Nick Cannon. I wonder what the latter is wearing -- Silberstein? His lovely date has on a very nice Roadster.

    bobbyflaynickcannonof5.jpg

Here's Emeril again wearing that TT Rollie. Doesn't he look like Antonin Scalia in this pic?

    emerilgl1.jpg

And Wolfgang Puck sporting what I think is La Bomba, the PAM 187. Whichever it is, he is faithful to that trend I notice in celebs, of wearing his PAMs with the provided straps (in his case, the PU rubber diver strap), rather than getting a nice aftermarket one.

  9. Pug, your post 2 windows up is wrong/sexist/humiliating/blah/blah/blah

I wonder if men here feel they have to say things like that because the women present expect them to (somehow)?

Let me be clear. I hate feminism. I hate when women get their knickers in a bunch whenever a man compliments a woman physically -- or even refers to a woman, physically.

The only time I have ever been taken aback by any kind of "sexism" are about women-centric posts verging on the misogynistic. And also, as I have said before, when members post pics of their girlfriends in exhibitionist fashion. I find that a bit sad. God forbid my boyfriend ever does that to me -- I'd leave him on the spot.

Other than that, speaking only for myself and not any of the RWG ladies, but Clive's Moto-Girl, Ajoesmith's avatar, Tech's avatar, and all the porn you can lobby in the Looney Bin is okay by me.

I LOVED Pug's Nigella book. Anyone know if Amazon carries Nigella's t1t book? Oh right, they are all her t1t books.

  10. alton brown is a huge watch guy, owns a sub, a few iwc's, i swear I saw a b&r, among many other fine pieces.

wolfgang puck is a huge pam guy

paula dean's sons both wear rollies

bobby flay wears a gold date-just

i watch alot of food network....

Wow, you watch as much Food Network as I've recently been watching the Travel Channel. Thanks for the info. I'll take a browse and see if I can come up with pics.

    This chef-thingie is a watch-rich topic!

  11. I've seen Tyler Florence wearing a Pam 217 and a Santos 100 chrono on his show.

    Excellent, thanks, Slai!

I had to Google him, because I had never of him. Nice-looking chap.

Don't you wonder where some of these chefs got their tastes in watches? Most of them are East Coasters, so the Panerais some of them have seem to be a late, Hollywoodesque influence.

Here is a lady chef I cannot stand, Oprah's acolyte, Rachael Ray with her Madame Tussaud's waxwork. The wax dummy even has her trademark black J12!!

Edit: Wonder if Tussaud's chose a Canal St rep to place on her wrist.

    rachaelray1jx2.jpg

...for me, she's the anti-Nigella. :yuk:

  12. The comment was tongue and cheek & I wish you two all the best.

    I know. :)

    Thanks, Freddy!

Emeril Lagasse usually wears an always gleaming twotone Datejust, but I could not locate a good picture.

I saw that, yes. I was ViewImaging him too.

He seems to be another WIS-Foodie.

  13. Houston's makes some of the best burgers (including a veggie-based burger) in the world. And my guttural repulsion to Lidia (and Julia) has nothing to do with randyness (my mother would tell you the same thing about Lidia and, no, my mother is not a lesbian (at least not to my knowledge)).

Ah well, that's all right then. You made it sound as if your only viewing criteria with women was youth, beauty, and sexiness.

It's like liking men only because they have a full head of hair, nice abs, and a nice car. And we don't know ANY women like that in this world, do we? ;)

And look where Patrick Henry is today - dead.

    Pass the salad.

Times like these I'm so glad Hitler was a vegetarian. :animal_rooster:

  14. She may be a good cook, but, as with Julia Childs before her, I cannot watch a cookery show hosted by a woman that makes my stomach turn, no matter what may be dangling from her grubby wrist.

Wow, thank God I'm not a man. I just can't imagine what it is going around basing likes and dislikes on looks or whether someone gets me randy. I could never have watched years of Parky or Benny Hill if that were the case.

I know you're not shallow, Freddy. But this trait that men have never fails to make me raise my eyebrow.

Now Nigella  She could brew up a vat of borscht with 2 dead beagles thrown in for lumps & my eyes would remain glued to the set (I hate beets & I am a vegetarian)

WHAT are you doing at Houston's as a vegetarian???

I greatly dislike vegans. Vegetarians are all right. My dad is one. So was his father -- in the 1930s...

Me, red meat couldn't be bloodier for me to love it. As Patrick Henry said, "Give me red meat, or give me early cardiovascular disease!!".

  15. Nigella, being a goddess, must have good taste in watches. She can do no wrong in my eyes.

That and the fact she resembles a dead heat in a zeppelin race, which certainly helps cloud my judgement. :D

Your taste in watches AND women seems to be excellent, Mr. Pug.

I have a huge woman-crush on Nigella. That voice.

EDIT: I'm sure every man here knows exactly what Jay was thinking.

    nigellawg2.jpg

Ahem, but to make it on-topic:

    nigelladjcj0.jpg

Well. At least it wasn't the pink-dial Rolex DJ. I hate those... :p

EDIT: And I see Nigella and I have similar tastes in rings. I have that exact emerald-cut aquamarine ring. What taste. What a woman!

  16. Times like this I really hate not having TiVo or a DVR. There I was, sitting on my sofa, clicker in hand when I pounced on my local PBS.

On it was that semi-baldie, Italian mistress of pastas and ragus, Lidia Bastianich, hard at work in her kitchen when SUDDENLY! she turns her wrist to the camera, and what do I see?

A full-sized pumpkin Omega Planet Ocean, on a beautiful deep orange croc strap!!

Okay, her hands are too plump, and her arms too stumpy to be able to get away with it, BUT it reminded me of all the other watches I remember her wearing on her cookery show.

    Check it out:

I do believe that's a Franck Muller Conquistador, a Tank Fran
