  1. ouch.. reminds me of a member over on RWI that got beat up for his rep.

Precisely. BTW, a few people contributed to his recoup fund. I know he posted a few donor names, but did we ever find out what happened to him, or if he bought the replacement rep watch?

    Hope he is okay.

When someone asks me the time on the street, and they look dodgy, I pretend I don't understand...

as an owner of a jewlery store, i'd have opt for a concealed weapons permit.......... i hope the wife fully recovers. oh, and i would have given the thief any watch rather than putting my wife in that situation.

How can one give a big enough DUH for this? I can't believe what that man did.

    Hope his wife recovers...

  2. Thanks Vic.. I would love to see a similar post of your collection ;)

Well, V, as I mentioned in my recent "Straps: Are We Done Yet?" thread (I think you were away still), I did indeed post one such shot, 1 month and 4 days into my Panerai collecting.

That photograph, and indeed, thread was very discomfitting for me, because it brought me a lot of negative vibes all that following week. I vowed never again to post a "reunion" shot of either my straps, or my watches, together.

Instead, as I told Hambone, I promise to always shoot a new strap or watch for my Wristies, so that you can see for yourselves the variety I possess.

But how can I resist such a request from you?

Again, that was posted early August 2007. I had received my first Panerai watch on the 4th of July.

All told, I today have 17 Panerai watches (one on its way from TWP, perhaps two; and I will buy another DSN for Christmas, so by year's end, 20 PAMS). And a simply staggering amount of straps.

I haven't counted the haul. If pressed I would hazard I have well over 150 straps.

July to November, mind you. Throughout my life I have always been about quantity, not like you, quality.

    I have really nice straps.

You have timeless classics. Big difference. :)

  3. I don't know what to say...after the dealer got this watch back, he said he'll clean the case, reset the hands and send it back. I really hope I'm misunderstanding something because that will result in almost no improvement. This is getting frustrating.

Gosh, that's a shame, Slai. Do you have the correspondence where he promised all would be fixed?

I'm sure if it's a trusted collector that he or she will make it right. I'm hoping the best for you! :)

  4. Can you post a link to the sticky, I cannot seem to find it at the top of the panerai area.

    Thanks much!

Bah, a hundred apologies, Robb. It is actually a sticky in RWI's Panerai forum (by JB, one of the mods). I suppose I confused that in my mind.

You'll have to register there to see it, I'm afraid. Alternatively, you can browse for my "Straps: Are we done yet?" post, where I listed a lot of the NAMES (if not links to) of the more famous Panerai strapmakers.

    PM in case of need...though I am nearing 100% capacity...as usual. :(

    Good luck!

  5. Dammit, why did I have to read this thread?! Staging parts of the show I can live with, finding out he just prays his way out of survival situations doesn't impress me quite so much when you are in the business of handing out survival advice. <_<

Darling, there are no atheists in the Everglades. :p

I was hoping for something a bit more practical....

WHAT! Thanks to him, I can be stuck in the Australian Outback, marooned in the frozen tundra of Alaska, and dodge the perils of the Costa Rican rainforest -- and with a handy Bowie knife, water bottle, some parachute string and a flint, I'll be JUST FINE!

Especially when I find the nearest Ramada Inn.

    I thought the Iceland Man vs Wild was pretty insane;

My favourite was the Alps. That's the one where you can see him jump in a frozen lake, nekkid. :)

    Brilliant, thanks!

  6. The VC Overseas might be aiming a bit high, in my opinion, if people know the prices of gen watches.

    My thoughts exactly.

Rolex Explorer would be perfect, but if I were a boss, I'd like a hungry young man willing to work for his first Rolex, not one who sashays into the office on his first day, wearing one already.

Perhaps Tag Heuers are very close to that idea, but I would highly recommend getting him one of those. By-Tor's Aquaracer being the most obvious, closest to gen suggestion.

(It would be awful for a young lawyer to be caught out wearing a rep. In the UK, and I believe in the US, lawyers are supposed to be counsellours of the Court and admitted to the Bar based on some moral rectitude. In practise, we all know that's not the case -- but a young man starting out his career shouldn't project sleaziness on the first day!)

EDIT: Ooh, fudge. In my squeaky-clean-Girl-Guide haste, I forgot to mention what a fantastic gesture this is on your part, Tazzman -- no matter on what watch you decide. If only all friends were like you!! :)

  7. It looks that way, yes. And it is usually worth the wait.

Well, we'll see. I've never been to Olive Garden, Applebee's only once, and I finally went to the Outback a few Saturdays ago, so I don't hold up much hope for this chain restaurant.

And the only place I'll wait 3 hours, without complaint, is Joe's Stone Crab. Mind you, I never do, since my parents know the owner. :D

  8. I've not seen any decent watches and no-one mentioned mine. However, tomorrow morning, I'm on the train to London so we'll see if the London branch has fancy watches around. :D

Ah, boring co-workers, BUT at least they won't be overly inquisitive either. That's a good thing (I'm sure you'd tell them they're reps. You seem the very honest type, unlike me). :D

ps. I'll been wearing the Ingenieur and two others

    PERFECT.

Can't wait to hear what happened.

  9. An earlier-than-usual start for most, the trees aren't even for sale yet, I know;

Maybe not the trees, but all the shops I've gone to have a definite Christmassy spirit. I hate it. It's not even Thanksgiving yet, and we're already in Christmas mode. :(

(I love Christmas, it's not that. But this early, and it reminds me that Christmas in our secular societies is about consumerism, not about the birth of Christ...bah, humbug)

    10) Carol of the Bells, Harlem Boys Choir

Magnificent track. Have it already, but I so look forward to downloading this. Thanks Gio!!

  10. Woah, spooky, I was just thinking about those Bremont watches (having seen Bear wear them in his survival series) and toying with the idea of buying one, and then I log on and see your post.............and then you mention my favourite mag, Outside, which sadly I can't buy now that I'm back living in this pokey island.

I love coincidences like that, don't you, prof? Even in a place where so many of us have very similar tastes, you are constantly reminded how even for us, we're so very much on the same wavelength.

*touches monitor to "connect" further with prof*

(Oh brother. I really need to stop listening to Kitaro New Agey music)
