  1. I think #'s 7 & 9 have been discussed recently in the admin section, especially #9. :g:

Hmm, multiple accounts? Oh God. This is of particular concern if someone is selling items in the Trade area. When I first joined, there was talk I believe from Admin of an IP sweep.

Any ideas if that has happened, will happen?

This is why I left other forums. There were too many sockpuppets talking to each other...

  2. I personally do not like the fiddy... but Simon it is almost certain that its price will continue to rise. Same with the 232 and 249... Limited editions and historic designs..

Risti members have been predicting that the 232 will be in huge demand quite soon. So far, the Cali 249 has been the hottest item for the past year, but it's about to change.

Then there's the 292, of course.

I personally don't think the 232 will ever be as big as the 249, or as possiby the 292 will be. It's that closed caseback thingie, amongst other things.

It is really a mystery to me why the 217 with the Marina Militare on the dial is not following the pattern..Probably because of the lefty factor..

Yeah, lefties aren't liked in America.

Actually, I think there is an Orlando Bloom factor involved...odd but true. And for anyone who says that's a silly reason, tell it to 007.

  3. Still utter stupidity though whichever way you look at it, as the discerning cognoscenti's choice will always be the 217 - the destro features (case CG, dial, movt engraving) add a certain quirkiness in themselves, and it's also a limited run of only 1000 compared to the eponymous 1950 of the Fiddy.

I actually do like the design concept better of the Fidestro. Its direct historical hommage is the clincher.

  4. I think you'd have to be certifiably insane to pay 20 grand for a Fiddy.....why that's almost 10 grand of 'real' money! ;)

Seriously though I could list at least 10 or 20 watches that price range could buy me - even 3 or 4 gens plus an Angus/DSN Fiddy to boot.

If the 'Risti numpties are paying that, then they are even more stupid and delusional than I thought - all for a prettified ETA/Unitas stock manual movt and the knowledge that there's another 1949 suckers like you out there? No thanks, think I'll pass.

De gustibus non est de Scouser Boys.

From the time two cavemen decided to barter, two things have made items rise or fall in cost. Plentifulness, and ease of getting/purchasing.

Italians know a thing or two about such things. It's how the Venetians raked in the dosh, for spices today you can find with ease in any supermarket.

Had I U$20,000 these days to spare, and really wanted it, I'd buy one.

If a Star Wars Boba Fett figure signed by Jeremy Bulloch can cost $2000, a beautiful, limited edition timepiece can be worth whatever some numpty thinks it is. :p

  5. Oh yes, wrist shot...I'm actually going commando right now (I'd say 'naked', but a "minority group" here would get all squealy and excited, she really would ;))

    :Jumpy: :Jumpy:

But if it helps, I'm "thinking" of this recent favourite in my watchbox, newly installed with a nice domed T19.....

    picture23ol2.png

    Very nice. Really. A+.

    Now about that "wrist"-check...

  6. Now you got me googling for "Alyssa Milano" ... ! ;)

That was just because she was Italian-American. He's moved on to Brits since then. And light-haired ones at that. ;)

Very nice! Thanks so much. This will come in handy when choosing my new-old car.

It aint fair that the S5 (v8 version) is going for $50K in US !!! ($30K less than in sweden) ..damn you americans.. :)

HAH. Ah well, we don't have Saint Lucia biscuits here in the US, so it all evens up. ;)

BTW, "Destination Charge of $775"? This is like that ridiculous "dealer prep" on my invoice. Charged me over $500 for basically a car wash and mat cleaning. WTF.

  7. We have never paid for any duties on items received in the US (from Germany, the UK specifically).

My mother loves jewelry, costing sometimes $$$, but she usually asks that the item be shipped to be handled by USPS (the government carrier, as you know). UPS and others have a greater chance of being opened by Customs.

However, I don't exactly know the answer to your question. I Googled, but all I found were some eBay links.

    http://answercenter.ebay.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1000077989

    http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?thr...d=1190816764034

"Also, it is important to note on the Customs Form if an item is 'used' as opposed to new. Customs agents are aware that used items, even if they appear virtually new, will generally have a lower perceived value than new items. If an item is used and the form is marked as such, it can speed the customs process."

A Canadian who received an item marked as $25, paid $75 in duties. Another poster asked how Customs arrived at that figure, so they could judge what the criteria is, and extrapolate from that.

"Apparently Canadian customs considers the "value" as what you would pay for the item at retail at Neiman Marcus. I recently had a shirt returned by Canadian customs which considered the declared value of $20, what the customer paid me for the shirt, should have been $150. The customer would have had to pay duties on the $150 retail value and not the $20 he paid me for the item. "

    Later.

"Are there sellers dumb enough to mark an item as "gift", and then include an invoice???"

Sorry I couldn't find anything more pertinent. One gets the sense that US Customs are not too picky, and certainly not as much as continental European countries are.

EDIT: At least he has SOME knowledge of what a neighbouring country uses as their criteria.

  8. Hello all, two days ago I donated to the site via paypal, received an automatic confirmation from the Admin thanking him. Since then I have sent two messages, all with no reply. How do I get my status changed to supporting member??

Dude, it took ME (yes, voluble, ubiquitous little me) a week to become a VIP. Kenberg even had to intercede. Or offered to. :p

Patience, mon ami. You shall be admitted into the Inner Sanctum soon.

  9. If I should need to open the caseback? any suggestions on how to proceed there??

Sorry to hear of your bothers, Watchbuff. This is nothing a watchsmith can't regulate in a few minutes. I seriously wouldn't touch it, if I were you.

However, remember my recent trouble with the DSN 112? When I was opening the caseback (with my fingers, some use a ball of "masking tape"), I had the bright idea of touching the regulateur, and moving it, in my effort to kick start it.

Bad move. Though the watchsmith fixed it, when I got it back, it ran too fast. About 4 minutes gained per 12 hours. Drove me crazy.

So I did a stupid thing. I opened the caseback again. Toyed with the regulator by ratchetting it up and down the regulator index (the hash marks at the tip of the dagger).

    casebackregulateurfixedal8.jpg

Lo and behold, it keeps time perfectly. 2 days in a row...

I don't suggest you do this though. Take it to a watchsmith. :)

  10. I may not be a big fan of her, but I would take her over the train wreck that's in the White House now.. but then I think Bob Hope's dead brain in a jar would make a better president than GW.

I swear I'm going to beat people over the head if they make this into a political thread. Where's my hatchet???

    :red_indian:

  11. NO WAY, Nanquq.

    First, RIP of course.

But in that Finepics thread this weekend, I was about to post as my joke-reply, the lyrics to The Hokey-Pokey!! :p Without further ado, and with grateful thanks for one of the best dances invented:

You put your left leg in

You put your left leg out

You put your left leg in

And you shake it all about.

You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around

    That's what it's all about!

  12. Got mine for $75K and its the 3.0 TDI. Basemodel starts from $45K and the S5 (v8) goes from $75-100K depending on specs.

Pretty strange how much the prices can differ when our countries are just next to each other!!

To US RWG'ers: Is the 3.0 TDI available in the US, guys?

I know nothing of cars, but when I Googled to compare prices (I am in the market for a new car edit: well new car for me; it can be used), the first links were all from the UK or Europe.

EDIT: Just to make this a little on-topic, have you ever wondered what pics don't make the Wristchecks and why? Well, here's one of the Silix Rollie TT. Didn't make the grade. :D

  13. @vbarrett : i feel like im cheating on my wife everytime i look gisele...... here's my desktop picture...

It's a grey area, CC. Like my boyfriend's teenage fascination with Alyssa Milano. If I saw him with a wallpaper of her, I'd be a little taken aback, but okay with it.

If I saw him actively seeking various poses, and plastering them all over the computer room...well, I'd start to worry. ;)

this is what i'm wearing today..... the left one.

    Perfect!

  14. Perhaps to spread the truth? Only someone a bit "slow" in the head thinks Hillary is a good choice for anything besides the occasional jab with a sharp stick. She is at best a ho-hum politician, and at worst an evil [censored]. Either way she's been as close to the presidency as she needs to be. She can't run a marriage, yet liberals expect her to run our country?! Thanks, but I'll pass on that one.

No, this isn't off-topic gritty icky politics area, this is the Humour area!!

Quick, a joke! Hey did you hear about the 2 guys who walked into a bar, and the other guy quacked?

  15. Listen not for nothing but you are comparing 600 AD to now??????

All I'm saying is the kids now a days aren't afraid to shoot. I am 28 and in school we threatened to shoot but we never have the balls to actually do it! Now kids do it and don't think twice about it.

Yes it is better than 600AD, by the way did you live through all that?>????? ;)

    Heh, no. I'm just a Historian. :)

But listen to me. I pontificated just after asking others not to, because I rose to the bait offered. Boo, bad Vic. Ken is right. Back to the kids -- or at least sending RWG Finns our best wishes. This can't be easy for their nation.

If you're in the US, here is an email where you can send them your condolences (NYC consulate).

  16. hiya Victoria....yes, I've been very busy unfortunately! :(

That's a shame. Your Wristchecks are missed! :)

so, what do you think? go with something like this, or stick with a good PAM rep? i'm in limbo

You already have some nice Omega reps. It all depends if you are satisfied with them, or not. If you can afford the $1000, why not, I say! Especially if you like the Welders.

If, however, it would take away from your rep purchasing, get a nice Fiddy from DSN. Heck you could get 3 for that price. :)

Don't forget that Silix SFSO special for under $300 currently going on, either!
