  1. Just for future reference:

    It's running again.

I AGAIN jimmied with the dagger. Gently touched each side below in red, and it sprung to life. It's been running since, whether on its back or front. I have the Crown Guard off still, just in case.

EDIT For FxrAndy: I gently shook it over white paper. Nothing was loose, or looked loose.

So whatever it is, I think the problem is partly there. Obviously, still taking it to the watchsmith, ASAP.

  2. Sorry V....guilty here...damm i'm lazy....I will try and type out those other few characters on my kbd to distinguish between V and Vict....

    :)

For the record PLEASE I AM NOT "VB". That sounds like an itch you get in your privates.

Vic, Victoria, Vicky, Mistress Vicky. Knock yourselves out!

(Whew, I never did like "V" anyway, no offence V!)

  3. Never thought of sending it back Vic? It might work for now but it will definately won't be problem free for many years :)

Sure. I told Davidsen that last night, via PM. Didn't reply, but at least he's aware of the situation.

@Estaban: 30-35 winds?? God, I've been doing 60 every night. With 60, it gives you a day and a bit power reserve. I obviously have to adjust that tendency.

  4. If it will run on its front and not on its back it could be a loose cap jewel resticting the balence movement, but the way you have described it it sownds like some thing stopping the power from the main spring geting through the movement.

Have you tried releasing the main spring pressure?, Open the crown guard, move the ratchet click (the bit that locks the main spring gear) so that the gear is free to rotate and while alowing the crown to rotate in your fingers alow the spring pressure to release. If fully wound the crown will spin 60 odd times untill fully unwound, Have a good look inside especialy in the area of the palet wheel and balence for any loose items like palet jewels, if it is all clear give it a couple of turns on the crown and see what happens

Oh Jesus, FxrAndy. I'm desperate enough to try this right now. Let me comprehend what you are describing by trying it...

    Be back.

    THANKS FOR THE REPLIES!

@Ryyannon: Yes it's something like that (or was, when I "fixed" it). It ran either face up or face down, but not both. Face down being more logical, so I'll say that.

UPDATE: Oh God, I dunno. Not only did I not know what a ratchet click was (looked up in TZ) but I realised, where will I get a peg wood? I have Sushi chopsticks.

I'll bollox this up, I think...

  5. Well it's easy to distinguish...one V likes straps, and the other...oh wait...crap...never mind.

This is an eerie thread. Yesterday, I was going to tease our K  in the Wrist-Checks about HOW VERY SIMILAR he and I are. It's freeky!

    Same:

    - Board Initial

    - Strap obsession

    - Strap TASTE (reddish straps)

    - Gen PAM, 112 (his, present, mine, future)

    - Interests (a guess)

I mean, we're practically interchangeable! Except for the penis obviously.

  6. 82Booba, you are a true New York fan. Always thinking that the world wants to be a Yankee. When will you band of pinstriped losers understand that the most of the country HATES the Yankees.

Reminds me of that scene in the Michael Keaton 80s movie, where the Japanese have bought out his auto plant. The new management come to the company softball game, wearing schnazzy pinstripe unis, compared to the rag-tag shorts and tees of the American workers.

George Wendt sees the Japanese and says: "Great. They look like Yankees. I hate them already".

Everyone hates the Yankees. I don't hate them, per se. My favourite player next to Ted Williams is Lou Gehrig. But I dislike YANKEE FANS, especially those Upper East Side idiots who take out their Yankees cap once a year, when the Yankees win.

Jaba couldn't carry Varitek's ball bag. Varitek calls the best game in baseball. Jaba folded like a lawn chair in the post-season like the rest of the Bronx Bozos.

Varitek is without question, the best catcher in the league. Veteran, solid, with an amazing grasp of his pitchers' strengths.

Every DAMN TIME he called for the Gyro from Dice-K, the pitch worked. And any guy who caught Tim Wakefield for all those years has got to have the stamina of an ox!

  7. Hey guys, I was "shopping" with my gf this afternoon at the Palm Beach Gardens Mall (FL), and after walking for at least 2 hours looking for her perfect shoes

Heh, because of the different emoticons, I can tell you c/p this from RWI. Cool. ;)

(I wonder if women post on their forums, "OMG, I had to accompany my husband to an auto shop, and he spent 10 hours talking about pistons with the salesmen.")

    DSC04495.jpg

This is a beauty, GTD.

I believe your post will be deleted because there is a strict "do not go to ADs with your reps and then post about it" rule here, as I believe there was on RWI when By-Tor was there, but at least you got away with it!

And it really helps, no doubt, that you're Italian. It's a wonder you didn't see Jfreeman there, buying his pinky rings. ;)

  8. V-

Looks nice from what I can see, shiny subdials though.

    He hates those, I noticed.

Ahhh the lange rep. I noticed they just throw moonphases into those things like they have extra or something too.

Josh used to have the one I want but it's gone now.

You might inquire of Narikaa, who is currently in the Far East right now, if he can source you one. Should be quite reasonably priced at that. :)

  9. I know the A Lange & Sohne reps are not all that, but the lange 1 reps look ok to me, but I can't seem to find any. I did see some on Ioffer, but I'm hesitant to pull the trigger so far since the band looks like junk.

I bought one here from Garethsm, for my dad, who thought it looked clunky and doesn't wear it. It was about U$60.

Not interested in selling any of my rep watches (ever), but here's the thumbnail pic before it was removed at sales' end (wish people wouldn't do that), llsteve80.

    thumblangexw0.jpg

I believe this can be bought very cheaply in Canal St...

The differences between the gen and rep are not too obvious, but telling nonetheless. Obviously, faux power reserve. And the built-in hole-pushers are not present in the gen.

I bought the rep after reading this magnificent (gen) review on it, by a TZ poster.

    hxxp://htexplained.com/watches/Lange1/review.htm (change xx to tt)

  10. I think I sussed it out. The dagger wotsit is sitting on top of the regulateur, right?

    casebackpam112redqn7.jpg

EDIT: Compare the DSN Fiddy dagger. It is not "sitting" over the regulateur blade, but next to it.

    casebackfiddywh3.jpg

(Please let me know if I have the terms right!)

UPDATE: I gently unscrewed the exposition caseback, using my bare fingers, and very gingerly adjusted that blade. Here is a shot without the crystal glare, for your reference.

    casebackregulateurfixedtp0.jpg

Unfortunately, my hunch was wrong. It's a stem issue, I'm guessing.

I've popped back the rubber seal, and closed the caseback.

UPDATE #2: It's running since closing the caseback. I'll check it in the morning, but I think I fixed it...I'm going to stay humble, because I did so completely by fluke, and I could've effed up my precious DSN 112.

I'm just happy it's running again, so in case this happens to you, check the dagger wotsit.

  11. Sounds like a bad watch. What you need to do is spank it and tell it "Bad watch, very bad watch". It should start ticking again, other than that a watch that is over wound will cost about a hundred bucks to fix, more or less.

    Oh God.

    Thanks...

  12. Since I have limited experience with hand-wound watches, please advise:

I obviously overwound it, because it simply will not wind anymore. Movement has stopped. Last wind-up was earlier last night, at 6 PM, when I gave it the usual 60 winds.

I will take it to the watchsmith tomorrow, but what am I looking at in terms of service? A stuck crown, a broken stem, etc.? Is this usually costly?

Thanks (again!) for any advice. :wounded1:

  13. I Guess lack on info is how rumours get started huh?

    You bet! Sorry too.

My brain might be playing tricks on me, but I have not see davidsen in the Collectors area.

Wow, I couldn't believe it, so I went to look. He's not listed! I was sure I had seen it, so I went hunting for it, and it seems there is a section for him in the Member Reviews (people who bought from him), but he doesn't have a gallery here.

Since I'm on several forums, I guess it all melded together in my mind. This may not be good form, but if you need to, go to RWI. I KNOW he has a gallery there.

    Good luck!

P.S.: If you do go for his 111h, go for the 3rd generation dial. With Davidsen, you have to SPECIFICALLY ask for everything, else you get pot-luck.

  14. *Quote from the PAM Forum*

Hello and thanks to all who posted here essentially building yet another informative PAM thread.

Question; Would I fond davidsen in the Collectors forum, if so what alias does he go by.

Wa-haaa?? Please tell me you didn't go to the gen forum, and ask about Davidsen??

Please tell me I misread this! Could happen. I just had some Nyquil and my brain could be fuzzy..........

EDIT: Oh whew, I re-read -- okay PAM forum. Not the gen forum for PAMs. WHEW. Thank God...that Finepics thread has made me paranoid.

EDIT #2: You have to be a VIP to look at members' galleries, although recently in the VIP forum, there was a member who said that's not true. It's been a while since I've not been a VIP, but either way, he goes by davidsenjpn as his ID.

  15. That's the truth  I take it you've heard of the Darwin Award?

In fact! This boy (of the vending machine death) was awarded it or at least nominated for a Darwin Award.

God, those things are so cruel. Must've been a Brit which invented them -- that's our humour all over. ;)

They're always good for a chuckle (that is if you are someone who finds humor in schadenfreude. I do. ) and I suspect that things like vending machine 'attacks' might make a few appearances ;)

SEE! LOL. Oh BTW, there is also a film about the Darwin Awards.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0428446/

Starring Joseph Fiennes, David Arquette, and Nora Dunn, etc. I have yet to watch it, but sounds, uh, fun.

  16. Has to be my new SD B)

    sd2007006vd1.jpg

I notice you have really nice watches, Watcher! That's a beauty, and mind, I'm not much into SDs or Subs.

@POTR: LOL! That certainly doesn't look small on you. Nice Droste effect. ;) P.S.: Your Breitling post breaking down the movements had my jaw on the floor the other day. What it must be to have your knowledge!

  17. The time wherever I am is the most important consideration.... the time elsewhere is secondary. My GMTs are easy enough to reset that resetting the GMT hand is almost as simple as resetting the regular time. Now if I were just dashing across to another time zone for a day or less, say from Pacific to Mountain, I might not bother with resetting the GMT. Otherwise it's a no-brainer, usually as soon as I board a plane. As far as I'm concerned, once I sit down on a plane I readjust to the arrival city time.

Me too. Moment I get on the plane, I set the GMT to the local destination's time.

This actually won me a prize once, on KLM. I was on my way from London to Colombo with two stops, and the stewardess asked us to guess our time of arrival, in LOCAL time.

Mine was closest, and I won a brand new Sport Walkman! :)

Wow, that was a frikkin long time ago...

  18. I have purchased a number of watches from River. He has always communicated and shipped promptly -- and his prices have always been among the best. I always wondered why he was on RWI but not here.

I hope everyone makes him feel welcome.

Oh, I'm sorry. TT's post makes sense now. I genuinely thought River was here, already, as a collector. I didn't understand, therefore, why we would welcome back River -- I was going to ask if he had been ill or something!

    Newbies.

  19. Thanks for thinking of me, Vicky...is it perhaps because I've become a bit of a ghost myself? :p

Whatever; but if I ever imagined that some of our hairy-armed ultra-rationalist members had their own stories to tell, I might have suggested that they do so in this thread.

As for me, I do: it's absolutely true, no embellishments added, and quite a good one at that.

But as they say, that's another story... :balloon:

Wow, you saw a ghost, Ryyannon?? I'm dying to see a ghost.

(That was awkwardly phrased, as ever)

Why can't I see an ET, a ghostie, leprechauns, talk to the dead like others can? It's not fair.

  20. I'm sure I've read somewhere that there are more vending machine-related fatalities each year than shark attacks

Oh my God. People will do the oddest things, won't they.

Thank goodness vases went out of style, since I wonder how many arms got chopped off, after someone stuck in their hand, to get something which fell...
