  1. You bastards that live in tropical climates. You better not be complaining about this phenomenon. Or else you're coming to Canada, where the area under your watch is actually darker than the rest of your arm. Yes, reverse tanning. That's what we do here.

No, I think Anton was using his UV light whatchamacallit-thingie to illustrate a WIS' lume obsession. As for me, I actually have to use the settings of my camera to give myself a "nice tan". :(

I've shown this before, but though my wrist is a shade lighter under my watch, it's not THAT different. And I live under a searing overhead sun. Stupid Scots genes.

    ouch1ea1.jpg

P.S.: Anton, my UV LED torch is on its way. I'll let you know. ;)

  2. OMG, a white elephant if ever I heard of one. A strange attempt to get in on Nokia's Vertu market.

Sadly, I'm going with the naysayers. This might be amusing or disastrous; I'm guessing both.

I liked the first Vertu. I really wanted to own one, but it was out of my price range. The original lines were a bit Art Nouveau-ish, despite the gold, and obvious courting of the female market.

But when mobile companies and fashion designers join forces, BAD BAD things happen.

  3. VISA = MASTERCARD....Pretty much anywere that accepts Visa, will generally also accept Mastercard...Personally I prefer an AMEX...Paying a $400 annual fee for a Platinum AMEX no limit card is the way to go IMO...Its well worth the $400/year fee, they have a great concierge service that you can use world wide...Last time I was in Mexico, in the Mayan Riviera I called their concierge service to find me a helicopter ride and they called back within 10 minutes telling me were to go and how much it is, it was a great experience!

I used to LIVE in the lobby of the AmEx L'Opera branch in Paris.

"Bonjour Mademoiselle Barrette!", the front desk would wave as I scurried nervously awaiting my latest Money Transfer, without which I would live on baguettes, goatcheese and tomatoes for another day. Oh happy gap year...

Anyway, sorry, I meant this to be a nice testimonial for American Express, because their service is PHENOMENAL. Anywhere you go, you get treated at least half-way decently, they're located in safe places, and you can have your post forwarded to you at any branch in the world.

Unfortunately, you have to pay your balance every month, so it's not for everyone.

America was built on credit, but American Express wasn't. :)

  4. I just ordered an ulitmate 111h from davidsen.

The total cost of the watch with one strap was 345.00

It's listed as more than that on another forum. He is generous to repeat customers, but seeing, Khurram that you are new (at least HERE), I'm presuming you have some nice bargaining skills.

As for the followup questions, Godzilla, I think now is the time to hit Search or to have a quick browse over the Panerai threads. The questions you ask have been answered at length in other posts -- the long and short of it is, it depends what you are looking for, which you still haven't mentioned.

You want good lume, nice dial, good proportions, etc. etc? There just too many variables.

Somehow, I suspect you'll like TWP better for your budget. My 2p.

  5. 2. I read couple reviews about davidsen, some people says his new ultimate + new dial is the best unmodded so far, but some says the dial is wrong and also reports issue of his springbar. So... is davidsen PAM actually good or bad? And can anybody pls explain to newbie like me what's the difference between davidsen's and other dealer's PAM?

Since you've done some research (something imperative before anyone comes to the forum to ask questions for the first time), let me then ask you -- Davidsen's 111h is out of your maximum price range reach. I mean, please email him, but last I heard it's more than $350, especially including Western Union fees. So I wouldn't even bother with DSN if that's your criteria.

    You have several choices.

A cheapie $100 Silix version, but not "best". A great TWP unmodded version, but I believe not cheap these days. An Andrew/Joshua 111h, around $158 not including shipping (I have two from Andrew), but not totally accurate. Or you can hunt down the Member Trade areas for one, if you upgrade your Membership.

It depends what you're looking for really.

  6. WEDNESDAY

Today, I'm taking out my beloved gen USSR-made Poljot watch! Yes, similar to the one worn by Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin himself into orbit!!

    poljotcloseupir5.jpg

I have a cuter Wristie than he did though.

    poljotwristiefo6.jpg

...okay, okay. He actually wore this, the famous Schturmanskie.

    shturm1em8.jpg

But even my intense dislike of Commies doesn't prevent me from loving the Poljot and its history. Oh and the Russkies also made an excellent rifle, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. To echo Judi Dench as "M": "God, I miss the Cold War."

    THURSDAY

It's hot hot hot in Miami this October!! (33C) And that was at 5 PM, too.

    91foc5.jpg

And when you mention heat and wristwatches, you have to think of Panerai. My brand-new, very first cognac Strapmasters strap on the DSN 112. Hotness.

    flowerspam112jf7.jpg

    Yarrrrrrr!!

    buckleyarrxamaszz5.jpg

You know those drivers who approach a Toll Plaza and they're fumbling with their wallets UNTIL THE VERY LAST MINUTE? Well, I hate those people.

    tollplazapam113pq3.jpg

Ex-Girl Guides are ALWAYS prepared! :tu:

@Stephane: Nice Mont Blanc! And I see the ex-Missus Stephane got to keep the jewels...ah well, I hope you got to keep the dog. ;)

@Scoobs: You'll be missed. Have fun in Polska! (The Polish connexion on RWG is amazing, no?)

  7. You know, I think only us WIS's love that scene, and I can see the other side.....it's quite possibly the most overt cheesy verbal product placement ever committed to celluloid (thank god there's no closeup). I mean it even has the outright cheek to jab a finger in the ribs of Rolex, a festering snub that dates back to 1967 when some snotty Rolex clerk suggested that the props director on Dr No should buy retail (in the end, Connery wore Fleming's own Rolex). But for all that, it is carried off with aplomb, probably due to the delivery of the two actors, particularly Ms Green.

Yes, she makes the scene. :)

The tension between them is genuine (that is, on the screen, I have no idea if they got along together as actors), and you'll recall moments later how he cuts her down to size by analysing her dress sense -- in choosing overly mannish-coloured clothes, she actually achieves the exact opposite effect of men NOT respecting her as a person, not just as a woman.

That entire by-play between them, when they first meet is WONDERFUL, sexy, tense, alluring, full of promise, with a dash of mystery and musk. The endless battle of the sexes that promises delicious surrender.

Just like male-female relationships should always be. ;)

Case in point, I will disagree with you here about the "product placement".

Was it in Brosnan's first stint as 007 where the producers were ridiculous in advertising sponsors? Remember the Pepsi placement? Or the incessant ramming down our throat of the Beemers? And the whole Omega transition. Oh God that was awful -- so obvious.

I'd much rather have this OVERT scene than cutesy insider references splayed throughout a film. It's more honest. And it was handled through dialogue, which as a writer, I loved. :)

And I suggest any man (straight or gay even) that says either she, her voice, her accent or any other part of her is "annoying" just has bad taste. Elegantly gorgeous...*check*......confident/playful...*check*.....English spoken with sultry French accent *check*. Mmmmmm....

I love her voice, accent or no. I frequently have woman crushes about women's voices -- usually the raspier the better. Tallulah Bankhead. Kathleen Turner. Diana Rigg. Heck, even Demi Moore. RRRRRR.

  8. Cornerstone, you're holding out on us!

First of all, you didn't include the munchies buffet in the RWG Green Room:

    pizzaclocksf5.jpg

Nor the hearty welcome given by Ken given to celebrity members like OJ Simpson and President Ahmenidjad (spell it any way you like!):

    ahmadu1.jpg

Nor did you mention Admin's fresh new ride, sold to him by Eunomians:

    redcarshoelw5.jpg

Incredibly, you also omitted the brand-new Rolex Chihuahua-Just given to all who upgrade their memberships!:

    chirolexkb5.jpg

Not trying to put you down, or anything. Just wanting to give The Folks the fullest picture of "Mundo RWG.CC".

  9. Although some members keep sending me PMs calling me an expert :o , I'm not.

We have some great GMT II threads and we have BT which would make a better comment on yours than I could.

Technically, the cyclop is too right for sure but, hey, it's not such a big deal again when on the wrist.

Oh no, Stephane, I didn't care about your opinion about the quality of this rep (that sounded rude! Sorry. I'm sure you know what I mean!). I know it's a cheapie, and moreover, laughably bad compared to others' here. :)

Below is what I wanted -- your opinion of how it looks on me.

Now, back to how it looks on your wrist: honestly, I'm a little disturbed to see a Rolie on a Pam wrist

I would say that a Daytona (white face) is the best choice to go for :p

Maybe I need more time to get used to the GMT II for you as I sincerely feel it's more a man's watch.

    Oh, snap, really? Let's see.

    ROLEX GMT II

    rolexgmtiiwristiewq9.jpg

ROLEX DAYTONA BLACK with PANDA DIALS

    daytonameemq3.jpg

For the record, I think I look HIDEOUS with the Daytona. Maybe Rima can pull it off, as I read she likes Daytonas, but with me, no.

    But then, maybe others disagree?

  10. I hate it. It just burns my biscuits to know that somewhere, some person is figuring out all of the dealers and buying himself, or herself, a beautiful watch just like mine.

    God, mum is that you?

She says the same thing. Only she means it. She has an acquaintance who knows she is wearing a rep blue-faced, solid gold Rolex, because she KNOWS watches.

But my mother would rather go outside dressed like Minnie Pearl than tell her about Joshua and Andrew.

... although I don't think anyone really believes my Sky-Moon is real anyhow.

Yeah, like your average person knows what Patek Philippe is, and how much our Sky-Moon is worth! I've gotten lots of compliments about mine. Yay! Suckers.

  11. Pic from Smat (Walters) site that I have grown to like. Really like the double stitch, and has actually gotten a bit darker with age.

    darkvintagetanet1.jpg

HAH! I guess you didn't catch my Wristie on the last day of August, Pizzanoo, where I credited you with selling me your Walter PVD strap. :)

(Or at least, one of your Walter PVD straps. The strap in that photo doesn't look like mine)

    Well, here's a refresher:

    walter112ok9.jpg

    walteryarrpw9.jpg

I think the Walter PVD with double-row black stitch, and PVD StrapCulture Yarrrr! buckle would rock anyone's world. B)

  12. That is my FAVOURITE scene of the film.

I like how she's obviously been checking out his entire person all the time they had their eyes locked in conversation, but she gives 007's watch a brief glance, and says "Rolex?". Without looking down (as would be reflexibly the case with almost all of us), he arrogantly replies in a clipped voice, "Omega". She says "Beautiful", lifts her eyebrows, bends her head down, and absorbs the news.

    Simple, elegant scene. Love it.

(What a weird comment in the reply section, about Eva Green having an annoying voice. Maybe an annoying accent, but RRRR, I love her voice! Yes, a woman can have a crush on another woman's voice, what?) ;)

EDIT: Oh Bravoz, you can do this in future now:

zQg2dI9r3G8&NR=1, then look up and where you see Youtube in the HTML codes on top of the post, just click on that. It automatically embeds it so we can view it without clicking. :)

(Once you posted, you either have to do it manually thus [ Youtube ] ... [/ Youtube], or "Full Edit" it)
