  1. How fun!

I wonder what the waitress and bus boy thought about your tabletop.

Thanks for the pix, some gorgeous watches there.

Dude, as CC said, Orange County is used to seeing this kind of loot in GTG, I am SURE. Did you ever see pix of the famous Carlsbad GTG for the Hammer this September? That was awesome.

When I see these shots I'm so jealous - I'm sorry but Chitown peeps are a bunch of slackers, a GTG has been tried about 4 times and nothing ever comes of it, bah!

I was searching for an unrelated topic the other day, when I came upon a very sad thread. Some member from South Florida organised a lovely GTG, and not one person showed up. Not an one, and the person took photos of the lovely restaurant table, all decked out...poor guy.

You know, I wouldn't either, but I'll say that straight off the bat, not promise and then don't show up. No offence to anyone who couldn't go today, I'm sure -- but it's rude, and there's no excuse if you don't send a text message or something beforehand or during it.

(Reason I wouldn't go: I've been to other GTGs and since my enthusiasms are male-centric, I tend to be the only woman there, other than the odd wife or girlfriend. It's very awkward, since they are not interested in the same stuff the guys are, and have no idea what they should speak to the snooty British girl who doesn't drink, about...so with regret, no GTGs for me)

  2. Here's my 118, from the Cleveland batters' eye view:

    img1589yt5.jpg

    WHAT A SHOT, Avitt! Hoobaby.

There ain't no woman I'm scared of in this world, but I'd quake in my boots if I saw that hard stare of Papelbon's. ;)

...I'm just hoping that the background of today's pictures don't include Dice-K committing hari-kiri on the mound.

    :o

    Quite. :p

  3. The Omega cost 200 quid in 1982.....it was marked down in a sale but 200 smackers was still quite a lot for me in those days!

    I bet!

When I was growing up, 5 quid brought home SO many items from the grocers...now, I can't even buy a case of Britvic Orange with that. Scandalous.

Companies in the UK still buy retirement watches. Was with a client last week sporting a white J. le C. Reserve de Marche, presented to him on his retirement from BP. What a lovely watch, I'm eyeing up a rep for myself right now........Andrew has an Asian example for only 98 of those US Dollars....just about to pull the trigger.

That was almost the first rep I ever bought! Went with the Patek Sky Moon instead. ;)

I agree, fantastic deal, and Andrew's minus $100 watches are tremendously good deals. I encourage you to buy that JLC RdM.

Wearing the gens does make you realise that reps are fun, and I love my reps, but the genuine article no matter how old still smacks of real quality.

    Yes...

Kruzer00 said it right. It's easier to wear a rep, when you have a gen (any gen) at home.

It's like treating yourself to a First-Class flight once in your life, especially on BA or Virgin. Once you have, taking Coach afterwards feels great.

  4. That was odd, I noticed that as well with his watch suddenly reappearing!

Ahh. Welcome to your home of watch aficionados, Ylfig. This is something any one of us would've noticed, I'm sure!

I told my friend sitting next to me and he just looked at me weird :)

You didn't let your hand linger on the neckrest whilst you said that, did you?

  5. Pack rat.. oh yes.. I fear the day we're moving to the new house.

It's a nightmare, but it cleanses your soul. Unfortunately, somehow I know I have my old mobiles and SE II somewhere, but we've lost all my baby pics in our various moves...I was such a cute kid too. B)

I had two jobs by the time I was 12.. and I spent all my money on a Commodore 64. It was gaming heaven. :)

I actually managed to convince my parents that "This thing will probably make me a computer genius!"

Ooh, always wanted to have a Commodore 64! But I was given an Atari, and well, like Nintendo/Sega back when, it was one or t'other.

Sega Genesis for me, BTW. Still have my "Pele" soccer game and NHL '93. My current boyfriend gave me a PS2 for Christmas one time, but I rarely play on it. Not into gaming at all. :(

  6. 'Fraid so. Unmentionable hit the proverbial and I spent the week in and out of Heathrow :(

Sweet of you to miss me though :winkiss:

If it weren't for you and Puggy, who else would stand up to me here?

Besides, Battle of the Sexes is with all due respect to your girlfriend and Mrs. P, an electrifyingly good flirt. Just enough mind. Then we go to our corners and live to fight and flirt another day.

  7. I'll try again later.

Thanks again, you guys are the best.

I'm not going to register in that other site. Just wait until RWI comes back up, and flit my time between RWG and Repgeeks (Repgeeks is REALLY nice. The people are extraordinariy friendly and encouraging).

  8. Later I just wanted to kick myself for doing that, I should've just told them I had to go :black_eye:

OOH! I remember By-Tor being really angry on RWI, asking people never to do this. I didn't go to an AD, but I have been several times to various watchshops in SoFla. No one has ever called me out, out of kindness or just because they don't know Panerais.

I mean, I'm not dumb though, Guanaco. I would go with a PO to a watchshop, but never that faux HBB in Yellow Gold or anything in bling. Too obvious.

Anone else would like to share their stories? :)

There have been some good ones before!

How about plaifender going inside an AD in Madrid and being treated like a millionaire (that was such a sweet story; he seemed genuinely amazed at the treatment)?

But I also remember a guy who went to a Barbecue, and some a-hole jewelry shop owner called out his Breitling for Bentley watch, first spreading rumours with the other guests that it was a rep. *shiver*

@LordRasta: That was precisely By-Tor's argument. The watchsmith who worked on my DSN Fiddy crown fix flat out asked me where I had gotten it. That he really wanted one too. Wild horses wouldn't have dragged it out of me. I gave him a half-way true story that it's a professional who'd rather keep his clientele small, invitation-only. That pretty much describes TWP and his VIP-only forum here...

  9. I had a Motorola flip too, as my first real mobile/cell phone. I don't even know what model Merc I drive, so don't ask me for which model. :o

However, that first Motorola flip was awesome. I couldn't get over how light and tiny it was compared to the old brick we had.

The '90s were surely the most revolutionary decade in personal technology history since the 1900-1910s when air flight and radio transformed the world. Did we really wait for the postman to bring a letter which took a fortnight from overseas? I used to have a pen pal in the island of R

  10. Hi!

    Go ahead contacting Palpatine (Thommy)!

One so rarely hears about him on RWG. I had thought he retired.

1665fan, try PMing your questions to members:

    Navigater (Belgium)

    RepAustria

    Tourby

If they can't do it, and Palpatine is unavailable, they may know others who do. Good luck!

  11. Some may say I'm gaudy but you only live once.

As Zero Mostel (from Longuyland too?) said in The Producers, "If you got it, flaunt it baby!!".

I like discretion, restraint and a modicum of good taste, but I'm not beyond matching you lunette for lunette, JFreeman. We could definitely hang! :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  12. Thanks V, where would we be now if not for the Caped Crusader?

    BOOM! POW!! ;)

I've never even seen a re-run, but I feel I have because of Harvey Birdman, Attorney-At-Law.

The Omega was bought for about 2 hundred quid from the AD in Guildford and the TAG was my Salesperson of the year award, asked for a nice automatic watch and they got me this.....guess it cost around 500 quid about 12 years ago. Purchased in Southampton.

Excellent deal...even for a quartz! Nice award too. Do companies still give out a solid gold watch, these days, as they used to for retiring workers?

    Well, white-collar workers anyway...

BTW always enjoy your posts, you are some collector!!!

Oh thank you! That's a lovely thing to say. :)

Enjoy what is left of a (hopefully) peaceful Sunday, Emmzy!

  13. I wanted to swap my band from my DJ to my sub b/c on my sub it's uneven and the clasp is on the side of my wrist almost because the last link doesn't come out - How do I get the band off? Do I push down on the spring bars? Can anyone help me with this?

Wait for better advice, UB7, because I've only done it a few times on cheap rep Rolexes, not an expensive one like yours possibly is, but yes, I just took a springbar tool (you NEED to have watchmakers tools in this hobby) and the bracelet with lug insert just popped out.

I wouldn't try it with a paper knife, or similar.

  14. That would cover the purchase plan but not the monthly charges. You really don't remember mobiles in 1998, do you. ;)

Though we saw this film in 2000, and Deutsche Telekomm were finally losing their deathgrip in Germany, I do have to say you are partly right.

However, we had a mobile in 1992, which is considered very late for medical doctors in the States (my entire life was ruled by a bleeper at my dad's side, going off at 3 AM every night), so I may have thought they were more ubiquitous than they were.

BUT, taking your never give up the ghost debating theme to heart, I will also say that if the boyfriend were a wannabe drugs dealer, he certainly would've been furnished by one from his boss, and could've afforded one for the gf. So there. :p

  15. ouch!

    haha im a Panerai noob!!

Yeah the strap was $20 plus shipping

    ANYTHING can be vintagized!! LOL

I dont like the buckle.. i want the wide pre-V style.. i like it better

Well, since I lack Tootall's frankness, I'll now out myself and say yeah, didn't like the strap either, Lonnie. It looked like someone put Fozzy Bear into the wash with Clorox.

Still, the Fiddy IS an hommage to the XaMas watches, to answer kasigi, and that's why vintage WWII ammo straps look so good on it. I'm not a fan, but if money is a consideration, try to check out CharlyJakob on eBay. Cheap ($30-50) ammo straps.

  16. Well what can I say, 'Gelo tells me everything ;)

Thanks for posting interview VB, was there a link/source?

    Hehe.

Since I lifted it from Risti, and they didn't have a link for it, I just posted it sans. Hope that's okay. You can check it out there, though. :)

(Blimey, you take Monday off, and you disappear for the rest of the week!)

  17. My grandparents used to live right across the bridge in Bay Harbor Islands, so I was within walking distance of Bal Harbour when visiting them.

Oh cool. That's very close to where ex-President Bush and Mrs. Bush have their winter condo. If you go in February, and see a Secret Service detail near the Palm restaurant, you'll know to look out for the Silver Fox. ;)

Presidents Bush Sr. and President Clinton must be more pal-sy than advertised, because the former frequently invites the latter to play golf with him in the Indian Creek Country Club close to where your grandparents live (the CC where Sly Stallone applied for twice, and was turned down twice. He's not their kind).

That was before I was into watches, however. As for Aventura, well, I haven't really fancied the place ever since a giant rat ran out from under the bushes by the mall entrance when I was walking out to my car one day.

Wow! That never happened to me yet. Mind you, in the weekends the atmosphere changes...as does the Falls at night. These previously toney places then become seedy. Strange.
