@POTR about photo: RRRR! Mind you, normally I don't like grease monkeys, but a man grabbing (what is that? A rotor?) a hunk of metal wearing a Rolex just cries out, Tarzan, King of the Rep Jungle.

  2. (Small background: Found this site when I was Googling to see if the PAM 063 had AR or not. No, I don't intend to buy from them, OBVIOUSLY, but their site descriptions looked amusing enough to share)

What raises your hackles quicker when perusing a Replica site? Is it bad photos, bad descriptions, or my personal favourite, awkward English which sounds as if your Russian babushka translated it?

    Check this out.

    Oredering.

Mentioning wife, then writing witch sooner after (your Freudian Slip is showing), but also noting your "close man".

How about those "High replicas", as opposed to, of course the low replicas out there in Canal Strasse. And don't forget to "have an eye" over the site!

Yeah, nothing engenders more trust in me than the ultra-professionalism of a site winging it on Babelfish.

I'll find my Man Watch elsewhere, thankyouverymuch.

  3. What I don't get is this new sister site of RWI, what is it called, RWC?

I mean, what's the point? How many splinter rep forums can you have? It's all geting a bit silly.

Though I just came in favour of variety, I'll just say that having a sister forum IS a bit confusing. Direct competition is more like it.

RWC however, and I'm sure Piratedzeus will give us info if that's the case, is an anti-scam site, rather than a chatty forum about rep watches, as this one, TRC, or Repgeeks etc. are.

  4. We need RWI for its extensive database of searchable information. I don't care about the politics etc aspect of these sites. You can ignore those. It was also very reasonable for full access and didn't try to peddle features for ongoing and never ending access charges.

Well since they recently changed to .cc like this site, we'll see about that. Just before the change came about, there was a call to donate...

As for needing various forums, absolutely. I'm a great believer in variety. The politics you mention is only relevant to those of us that are solidly entrenched in one or another of the forums.

I do have to say that I trust RWG's Mod team more than any other. They are neither suck-ups, nor do they hesitate to chastise even well-known collectors, if they see fit. And, of course, there is much less drama here.

However, each forum has their own dynamic, and I'm happy that's the case.

  5. I'm not scared away by reps at all. I've since purchased a UPO 007 from Josh and just ordered a PAM Marina GMT SS Brown today too. But I'd really like to get my PAM 111 back up and running since it started my love affair with these replica things.

Dino, if you have previous experience with other collectors, I'm guessing you bought this from a member because a collector like Andrew would surely ask to replace or service the watch, even two months gone, as one example.

I've done a ton of reading on the site, but I'm not very handy when it comes to repair. I'm too big (6' 7", 295lbs) and my hands are too big for those little screwdrivers and such.

Any advice for service in Michigan, USA would be greatly appreciated.

Since Flav's retirement as a modder, we have Vaccum left Stateside, TTBOMK. Try PMing him. Good luck!

(And yes, I'm aware my "Good luck" has become a Klinkish, "Life is good")

  6. Kru, that LOOKS like a GEN. AMAZING what The Zigmeister can do. You are a very lucky doggy. Wear it well, my friend!

EDIT: I tend to target fat crowns now. And that crown is flawless. Saw a guy at a restaurant on Saturday, as we were awaiting to be seated. He came up and almost parked his GMT II Pepsi in my face. I didn't have to look hard, even if his wrist was turned away and I didn't see the dial closely. Skinny crown, bad bracelet looking stiff. Rep...

  7. V -- Hard to tell from the photo, but if your father's watch is a 116520, have you compared it to the gen (especially, the location of the subdials on the dial)?

Oh my word, no, Freddy. :)

It's the cheapo version, and I wouldn't recommend that to anyone seeking a real Daytona. Faux sub-dials etc, which Jay honestly mentioned before purchase.

Just wanted to pipe up since we do, technically, have Silix Daytona!

For the record, though, it looks fantastic. Whether it's even a passable copy, I would doubt it. Seconds at 6, but as I said, it hasn't stopped since June (toi toi toi).

  8. Wow, really? Have you dealt with Andrew, Joshua, TWP, Narikaa etc.? Because they will ALL answer your email questions patiently.

Davidsen, not too sure. Paul, he's at least polite in first emails. Ruby tends to be vague, which some attribute to her lack of English. Jay is nice, but delays in email replies.

Honestly, I have yet to do business with a reputable collector (even some I wouldn't return to), that doesn't patiently answer questions.

  9. I hate a couple things. First and foremost the guy with the revolver who fires a rapid 15 shots without reloading. Actually any gun that shoots way too many times sans a reload pisses me off. Then there are the gunshot wounds that really don't bother guys so much. They take a round in the shoulder and it's "ah well, better wrap a bandage on it and keep trucking...."

I've seen a guy who was shot, it was a .22lr and he was screaming bloody murder, begging the EMTs to cut his leg off it hurt so bad.

Interestingly, you'd think as a Historian (which I mention like twice a day here) I'd be really upset with cinematic license, in dates or events, right?

    Nope.

It's make-believe people. Unless it's a documentary, I don't mind it, although yes, I groaned during all of Braveheart.

But remember when Princess Isabelle was told by Edward I (speaking of reinforcement troops sent for to attack Scots), "They were sent for a month ago"?

Well, I LOVED THAT. Patrick McGoohan made the whole film for me. It precisely encapsulated the wiley Realpolitik character of one of England's greatest monarchs (sorry Scots and Welshies, but it's true).

As for six-shooters going off for 20 rounds, eh.

I kinda miss it when John Wayne killed guys, and with Agatha Christie cleanliness, no one fell to the ground splurting tonnes of blood. :)

  10. [ii'll go back to pugwash's analogy - just like part of the fun in driving a manual car is changing gears - Sure its sometimes annoying but the majority of the time its alot of fun!

Manual transmission in cars are only annoying:

    1) When you're old

    2) When you're stuck in rush-hour, inch-by-inch move forward traffic

    3) When you're going up a hill or parked in an incline

I love manual transmission vehicles, and I miss them. Sometimes. Must be getting old. :p

But I love me some handwind PAMs! Best part of owning one, other than the strap changing, IMHO. Certainly beats the dread "Quartz" watches I am used to as a woman...

  11. Oh yes, me likey...

Wow, 55mm, hmm? That's larger than even the 52mm L'Egiziano. Now I love me some PAMs and Hublots. The larger the better -- but you won't get me to strap on that watch on me wrist!

Unless it's for Halloween once a year. It even looks like Frankenstein, down to the two bolts in its neck.

  12. So I guess the moral of the story is you cannot judge a book by its cover (unless you take a peek at the inside flap).

I think I've told this story before, but here goes again.

Parents and I were in Maison Chanel's main shop in Paris when I was twelve. In walks in a youngish looking man wearing ripped jeans, a stained-looking old t-shirt, and I do believe, flip-flops with socks. He had longish, unkempt hair.

I found him fascinating because as I grew up, I realised that Maison Chanel and places of that sort do not let people who look like him, inside. The manager approaches you very discretely, and tells you some story about Arab Royalty being present and security is tight at present. Most people get the hint and amscray.

But Mr. Hippy walzed right in.

The vendeuses treated him like an amoeba. No one wanted to wait on him, but he kept at it, whilst dad and I watched him waiting for my mother to finish in the fitting rooms.

He finished shopping. The vendeuse handed him the bill, and he proceeded to take out...no, not a platinum AmEx. Not a gold Visa.

He took out from his ripped up jeans pocket a WAD OF HUNDREDS that could choke a horse. I'll give the woman credit. She didn't drop her jaw, like my twelve-year old self. She barely batted an eyelid.

As he left, she gave him a slightly less chilly smile. She still wasn't amused. But damn, she must've been impressed that this young American could buy and sell her dismal shark-face twice over.

    (Just for you Puggy!)

I have an American friend whose dad used to be head of Cardiology at the most prestigious hospital in Miami. He was a waiter at Swensen's (a local TGIF Friday's), and drove around in a beat-up 1992 Corolla (stick).

His dad was worth millions and they lived in a mansion, but he looked and acted like he wouldn't know a Franck Muller from a Frank Sinatra.

Not exactly sure why Americans act like this, but though I often judge a book by its cover, regarding pricey watches, I can read a person fairly well.

Some people are just not into the whole palavah of being rich. That's fine too.

@JFreeman: It's 6 PM, around 86F and muggy where I am south of you. Just went downstairs to get our post. Our lobby faces the open air, and though the ocean breeze cools it, I still got my t-shirt soaked to the skin with perspiration. I have to take another shower. Ugh. Small wonder people dress as they do in SoFla! Small price to pay, though, for paradise. :)

  13. Has anyone received a DSN base watch lately to confirm that the base dials are still good?...or no worse than before?

I've seen you here before, ZainoDetail, so perhaps you've seen my DSN 112 in Wristies, but it all depends what you mean by "lately".

On 1 Sept, I received a package with my replacement Fiddy and 112. Here they are out of the box. And for the record, I think both the 112 and the Fiddy dial are flawless.

  14. My thoughts and prayers to all of you in pricey OC...many people may not have empathy for you guys, because they think you're covered by insurance, yadda yadda, but I know what it is to be in a fire and lose everything (our flat burnt down, when I was a little kid).

I have as much sympathy for the richies in Malibu, as I would for the humble folk of New Orleans. Pain is pain.

    Good luck to all...

  15. Victoria, do you like your 177 better, or your 112?

I was very torn between those two recently, and decided on the 112, even though I like titanium watches...

Whether Ti or SS, the Panerai is versatile, Mezz. Fear not. IMHO, you made the right choice, especially if you can't at first get both. However, caveats.

My 112 is a Davidsen and the 177 is an Andrew.

Now I love me some Andrew, but his watch came unmodded, whereas Davidsen's has all the bells and whistles so like his Fiddy, I tend to default to the 112 these days. I just love looking at the finish, the AR, the cannon pin all perfect and stuff.

That plays a role in my advice to you, no doubt.

Because the 177 is an awesome model, and you cannot go far wrong in choosing either. I guess I'm just used to the heft of the SS, because the Ti is as light as a feather. :)

@Scoobs: THANK YOU! I am really lovin' it.

@Emmzy: Apart from the fact that it would look bad on me (I feel), what prevented me from buying the charming Chopard MM is that I heard you can really hear that 7750 whirr away inside. I guess it must be true then.

  16. The #1 rule of making your watches look authentic is.....................................

Don't wear what appears to be a $20,000 watch while dressed in ripped shorts, a tank top and driving a 1982 Toyota corolla. :D

Unfortunately, this describes 90% of all Americans at any given time. :p

(Stop! I'm not picking on Americans. Germans can be just as badly dressed, etc. But Americans are down-home people. Whey they're young, they dress up to go to clubs, and always for special occasions like proms, weddings, bar mitzvahs. But usually, they look humble to the point of making it a fetish. Elegance simply doesn't resonate in this culture)

Look, dress and act the part. If you cannot do this, stick with Timex.

I think this guy is wearing a fancy Timex.

    sewatchmobtd6.jpg

But such is life, that if he emerged from his car, looking as he does, with that presence he has, even if he had the rankest, fugliest Canal St. Panerai or Rolex rep, I at first wouldn't blink. Not one little bit.

    Life is unfair.

  17. It's back up but I can't log in. When I try I get this:

Reset password and try again, same error.

Not sure what is happening to you, Abat, because it took my old password just fine. I also checked my Inbox and old messages -- all there. Whew.

    Good luck!

(Piratedzeus, a mod there, is an active member here. Hopefully, he'll see your post)

  18. spoke too soon.. its down again..

    Checked using my usual:

    http://replica-watch.info/forum/login.php?...7dd3aef44889fb7

And yes, it was down. Didn't see the preview of the new look.

Repgeeks has been down for maintenance too. No look changes, and it has been up and down since it came back up online, but as of the time of this posting, it's up.

I noticed Kink isnt in the list of Moderators anymore..

    Interesting...or perhaps, Kinky.

EDIT: OMG! It's back up at this moment, for how long dunno, but I am stunned. Check out their new look.

    post-6973-1193037741_thumb.jpg

Now I know everyone complains and dislikes "new looks". Didn't I myself whinge and moan when our site changed looks. But this is a RADICAL change. Don't like...hope it's just temporary. Looks like any old forum and not (like it or hate it) The Darkside.

  19. MONDAY

RED SOX WIN! And here I am celebrating it UK-style!

Showing off my new Europelli Baseball strap on the DSN PAM 112. In baseball this would be called a curve ball pitch, right? This is the same grip we use for swing balls.

    cricketballpam112europebm5.jpg

Cut me some slack about the bails and the stumps, I KNOW! It's a kiddie "My First Cricket Set" from Hamley's bought for my future little boy (or girl). Presumably, this is easier for them to hit than the usual 3 stumps and 2 bails. :p

    4stumps1baileuropellipaml9.jpg

Do I like the strap? Yes. Is it worth the $145 (was $135) price? Dunno. It's a mushy strap, looks well, but the leather is not the best (Drew is a nice guy though). Here is the reverse, buckle side -- comes with it. You can also see my lotion rash peeling in the palm. :yuk:

    cricketballeuropellisidon5.jpg

Our nations have so much in common; both cricket and baseball rule! :)

    willoweuropelliuh5.jpg

    TUESDAY

This combo is a delayed promise in Erwinner's PAM 177h strap thread some time ago. Here seen with the Toscana Siena Carbon strap from Timeconnection.biz. :tu:

    pam177toscanasienacarbofw7.jpg

    Not bad. Not bad!

    carbonsidebb5.jpg

It sparkles in the sun, like a diamond. ;)

    carbonpam177over1cj9.jpg

    Gotta love that tongue! :D

    longtailcarbonur6.jpg

...GO RED SOX! SOX in 5! :)
