  1. That Laureus really exists but please note that this is a foundation supporting children e.g. for education in poor countries. I mean: Everybody on the forum knows how to judge fake dealing though we all collect these damn watches (indeed, me too!). But I wouldn't feel fine by purchasing a rep watch which should better be purchased as a gen to grant children related projects. Please don't take me wrong as an upholder of moral standards, just my 2 p.

Maybe make a donation to a childrens's charity in your own country of 10-20% of purchase price if you buy one?

I don't like the look of it myself and would prefer the panda rep, or the blue hands version if they rep that.

  2. What makes us think that 'perfect' reps (probably not of Rolex) aren't being made in small quantities and making it out there on to eBay and into the second hand market?!

Honestly, just the datewheels and crowns on Panerais suggest there is a reason other than 'it's very difficult' either they do it to [a] create the market for the next 'version', because they think 95% is good enough or [c] they want to keep the reps distinct from the gen for those who know what to look for.

Personally I would go for primarily , with a bit of [a] (once they realised that they were creating this effect).

  3. This looks absolutely great, but I have to agree that the date is a real let-down on the subs. Disregarding the fact that it makes them less accurate when compared to a gen, it is actually very difficult to read due to the poor mag and the thin date font! Since so many models use the same date wheel (or at least the same font if they are using a different sized wheel) why can't the makers, or someone supplying spares like Davidsen come up with a solution?

  4. I would have to agree that expensive watches are usually to found on the wrists of people with expensive tastes. Almost without exception, every genuine watch I have seen "in the wild" has been on the wrist of someone wearing decent clothes, with a decent haircut who looks reasonably healthy and is over 25. Of course there will be exceptions, but unless you can convince people you are an eccentric billionaire who likes to dress in shabby clothes, eat exclusively at fast food restaurants and buy $15,000 Patek Philippe watches, your advice about matching reps to image holds true :)

  5. Check the first generation Dirk straps that has the OP logo on them. I wonder why no one ever said anything about them. He made his straps famuous by copying the original Panerai straps down to the logo buckle.

Somebody did say something... Officine Panerai (or their owners). For the record I think the first Dirk straps actually used NOS Panerai buckles, i.e. he was fitting genuine buckles onto his straps. This was at a time when Panerai had abandoned the use of the "2 arrows" logo. They decided to start using the logo again and told Dirk to stop, hence the 5218-2 and other various markings.

Having dealt with both Dirk and the E-hole, I can affirm that Dirk is a knowledgable and very helpful Panerai enthusiast and the other person is a businessman who I have no time for since his anti-rep outburst (and even less time since he came crawling back to try and cash in on the rep scene).

The world of Panerai seems to completing it's move from a world of passionate, knowledgable collectors into something resembling the world or ROL$X... Sad to see it happening really. :(

  6. By the way did anyone know that St George was in fact Turkish and that he is the patron saint of several countries!!!

Yeah, St. Patrick was born in Scotland (although did apparently die in Ireland) but St. Andrew didn't set foot in Scotland while he was alive, indeed it is not reliably established that his bones even made it that far! You have to take all these legends with a large pinch of salt.... :whistling:

  7. Yep, I think we are all aware of this one. TBH a tiny flaw like this is probably a good thing, as it prevents the reps being passed of as genuine if you have a knowledgable buyer. The problem does not bother me with the reps as you really have to look quite long and hard to spot it (and have a gen side-by-side for comparison) unless you have the font commited to memory!

  8. Hi,

I have just bought a Tag Link like this as a gift for someone else (I often give myself little gifts :D, but not this time!) and I can't figure out how the bracelet can be adjusted. I am used to the push pins in Omega bracelets, but this does not have any pins on the outside of most of the links, just the two links closest to the clasp...

There are some small areas on the back of the links that look like they could be depressed (like the IWC bracelets) but I don't want to damage a lovely watch that is a gift by prodding and poking bits that are not designed for it.

    Any ideas?

    :g:

    Thanks!

  9. The reason there aren't many good Oris reps is most likely to do with the good value (i.e. low price, good quality) of Oris watches anyway. There are people on these boards paying more for PAM reps with swiss movements as many genuine Oris watches can be had for! :bicycle:

  10. They must be nearing the mathematical limit of different combinations they can produce with the variations of:

    Blue dial

    Brown dial

    Black dial

    Radiomir case

    Luminor case

    Submersible

    Chrono

    GMT

    Stainless steel

    Gold

Wait, maybe that's the answer to too many simliar and boring models... a build-your-own custom PAM so that each one is unique for the owner! :yeah:

Don't think much of the new models myself, last years were much better. :yuk:

  11. Think there are few DNS issues - admin sent an e-mail our - for some members it may take a day or two for the new server IP address to propgate out and be fully working. He did say that the .com address was more likely to work sooner than the .net or .org, so anyone having problems, try the .com
