  1. I felt bad grinding off the Paci buckle - they're about the best. But I felt good when the PVD buckle went on:
  2. Dealers? Anyone? <crickets> <crickets> <crickets> That really is an almost fatal flaw with the Radiomirs. One of the reasons to have Panerais is the fun of wearing different straps. It's not fun with these. Almost fatal because they are indeed comfortable to wear. But I sure don't buy as many as I would if there were spare (and/or better) screws available . . .
  3. If the 22 minute marker were the same length as the 21, the SCHAFFHAUSEN could almost fit correctly. Oddly, it seems to be between the 21 and 23 in length.
  4. They are a real place - a little back room operation in an alley behind a deli. I went to them to try getting the mushroom on a Seamaster clasp replaced. The best they could do was to fashion a small nut and bolt to take its place. But they do have boxes and boxes of parts . . .
  5. Wow, you're going to be in a rough spot if you ever need to use them them at 3,000 feet under . . . you'll need to hold a small flashlight with your third hand while loosening the pushers with the small wrench
  6. I think the RWX version was called the 1938a, but the watch it referred to was the initial version of the 3646 - started in 1936 to 1938 (depending on what info one chooses to follow). It was used for a long time, up until 1944-45 or so, though it had been replaced by the newer dial by that time. Panerai decided to go with the 3-6-9-12 dial for increased underwater visibility. The case changed at that point, because the new dial was thicker, so the bezel became less flat. This one is a Watchmaster homage; the big gold hands aren't true to the original but rather a tribute to the various gold hands some of the vintage watches have.
  7. And then there are the times when ordinary gold hands won't do:
  8. Nanuq/Ubi - Forgive a newbie question, but what are the flaws you saw? I checked Ubi's reference post on the MBWs, and the "registered design" looks very different from the eBay item. eBay is engraved, MBW etched. So what else gave it away? Lugs? CGs?
  9. That aged color is great, Joe, very clean. What did you add to the lume to get it?
  10. I like that effect. I also like the strap - where's it from?
  11. From the site, all models: Andrew, you're carrying some seriously heavy stock Nice selection, and good pay/ship options. I've signed up -
  12. Sounds like a year or two ago in the SF Bay area. It's slowing down now, 14-18% a year instead of 20-25%. But in a nice area one bedroom condos are 600-700K, 3 bedroom houses are a million or more. It's going to be a mess when the 3 and 5 year ARMs are up and people can't cut the current rates. You might be getting some cash-out-and-run refugees, Bob.
  13. @Nanuq If it looks anything like those lugs . . .
  14. The Speedmasters in the 60s shared some of the case features, too. Then they took a wrong turn for awhile with the Mark series - that lugless 70s look . . . Here's a nice one from 1967:
  15. Thanks for reposting - it's good to see that one again. Beautiful watch.
  16. That LeJour is nice, but it just doesn't have those Omega lugs . . . I'm in love with Ubi's bottom picture.
  17. mine's simple, too: tom is the nickname for a male cat or turkey tufa is a form of limestone tofu is bean curd put them all together = tomtofa
  18. So, Rob, when I show people watches you've worked on for me and say "He's a real artist", I've been telling the literal truth. Those paintings make the air itself have presence - fine work. Tom
  19. @jsph You might want to PM him in case he's not reading - he is (was) indeed [censored] Tracy -

    Big ones

Nice group A question on the 3436 - are the wire lugs welded or screwed? If welded, how did you get the sewn strap on? Thanks for the pics -
  21. After seeing those the ferrari Panerais are beginning to make more sense
  22. Think I'll stay with the vintage . . .
  23. Very nice - that's the color I need for my Tantalum, to set off the titanium. I like the unpainted sides, and soft is good for such a thick strap. Thanks for the heads-up -
  24. Nanuq ubiquitous That's what makes this hobby so much fun - the occasional mysteries. Long ago I got a really cheap Roadster; the dealer included, along with the steel bracelet, a very nice leather deployant, close to real (I checked), way out of the watch's league. Tried to find out where he got it, but he had disappeared . . . And by the way Ubi, these are great reports you're doing - thanks!
