  1. If your 117 case back does not fit your Eddie Lee case than you most likely have one of the earlier "492" or "581" cases. Eddie went through several versions before ending up with his "Ultimate 4rth Edition".
  2. EL CG is not particularly better than anyone else's. Also the caseback is the standard 117 caseback. It is the case and dial that makes the EL special.
  3. I am not a genius. I have had the benefit of seeing all 3 and at some point have owned two of the three different dials/watches. My favorite is the first dial used on the first 500 or so. It has the whitest font and the most "pronounced" font similar to the original 6152's which the Fiddy is meant to be a homage for.
  4. The EL dial is my favorite as well. But the Davidsen is also better than you might think. In point of fact there were 3 different versions of the gen dial and the last one has more of a grey tint to the text. The gen dial in the pics is a first generation dial.
  5. If you are looking for white it sounds like you are looking for an old Eddie Lee dial. They do come up. Of the rep dials ever offered I think they are the best. I do believe that DSN's original version actually had white lettering as well. Be forewarned though that it is not just the printed font that is wrong on the dial. The cut-out 6 and 9 are also shaped differently. In reality, 99% of folks won't ever notice this anyhow. Here are some pics. Gen vs DSN: Gen vs. Dsn vs. Eddie Lee (in the watch)
  6. thanks Can't wait to see that finished Rolex.
  7. I am hopeful. As is always my intention would be to organize it as a group buy if the demand is there. The more the merrier (and cheaper). But seriously, it is more a numbers game as to how low it can be priced. Once I have the strap pins finished I will let the more competent members assist in finding the write CNC shop. The case can be done by any simple machine shop with a 6-axis machine. The pins may well require a "micro-machine" shop (read as a guy with a very expensive machine).
  8. P- That project is looking great. Thanks for sharing. - Kruz
  9. DO yourself a favor and remove that crown. At least you can tape over the case tube and protect the movement and threads. Otherwise stick with the exterior.
  10. That is the idea. I can always get one or two made to order for a very high price (picture a smith starting with a block of steel and slaving over a lathe, etc.). That is what we have here. The Smith did it with a gen in hand as the model. A couple of more skilled members than I will run this down the CNC route after Christmas. Once the costs of CNC are sorted out we will see the level of interest. Knowing that all the other parts (dial, cg, casebacks, etc.) are or will be made by other members this would be the final piece of a complete puzzle. I am very happy with the case itself and that should be easily reproduced. The properly sized double screws are on the way now but I am concerned that reproducing those pieces may jack up the cost.
  11. Just got this one and I had to share it. Proper 3 part dial with anodized top dial, full resin tray and yes - radium. Could a Kampschwimmer with appropriate movement be far behind? Another 2010 project.
  12. No idea. It took quite a while to get my hands on the proper case itself. I still need to visit with a couple of CNC friends which is why this one is 2010.
  13. Dluddy gets a gold star. It will take a while to get it together but 2010 should be a good year for the Pre-V folks. Now picture that case with a FGD dial, proper CG and perfect strap pins. Oh, and lest we forget with the proper PVD coating from the folks who did it the last time. My crystal ball tells me that with all the wonderful projects going on within the forum it should be a reality in 2010.
  14. PAM fans - any guesses what we got here? And yes, they are both sitting on my workbench as I write this.
  15. It's all relative dude. Ubi has forgotten more than either of us will ever know so I also identify with your comment. And as for Rob.... With those guys I long since gave up faking.
  16. Congrats on a stunning watch. The bracelet looks really good on it. I may have to try one.
  17. As far as I know lignes relates only to size. Many years ago Caliber (as relates to Horology) related to size only as well. Today caliber is the form of identification for a specific movement attributed to a specific manufacturer (Rolex Caliber 1570, etc.). In fact a watch movement's "caliber" is what is registered with the Swiss Trademark office listing all of its salient characteristics (size, complications, materials, etc.). In effect it is now a form of intellectual property protection for a specific movement and its manufacturer. Hey, you asked.
  18. Does anyone know who sells the 233 rep with the 7750 movement with amended plates to make it look like a 233 movement? Thanks in advance.
  19. THe watchmeister's were only done in white. The silver one looks very interesting.
  20. Welcome. You are in luck as both the Tags and Breitlings are very well repped. Plenty of reviews and pics to help you in your decision. I still think back to my first rep with fond thoughts. 21. Welcome. Fortunately, you have picked a watch that is very well repped. There are a number of pics and reviews of the different versions. Enjoy the ride and hope you continue hanging around long after you get that first watch.
  22. Lani- Very interesting and thoughtful post. Unfortunately it is also going to result in a further reduction in my liquid net worth which at Christmas time is always a bad thing.
