  1. The coating does look great. Jack at IWW has an excellent local shop who does this work. He does not take reps but he does takes any watch watch. But his prices are purposely double what any one else's are. In any case, wear that one well.
  2. Yes it is gen. $1700 is a silly price. I think the going rate is more like $1,000.
  3. Lani- Nice pick-up but you are a mad man. And someday when you get tired of those Doxa's I'll be there. Just ask Ubi.
  4. Great looking project. Can't wait to see the final result. On the solder question Cortebert will answer the question but in general I believe the original used silver solder.
  5. . Not Tuesday yet but by tomorrow morning that A series croc will be swapped for a more traditional black leather Hirsh and peaking out of a custom enlarged sleeve dress shirt.
  6. It may be a lot of money but if you are a Rolex collector with a big collection it is a unique piece and a fraction of the cost of of one watch. I just wish I had the collection to justify it. To put it in perspective, people pay thousands for a life-size Panerai buoy. And I doubt it is being put next to the guy's yacht.
  7. Great choice. AP should have put it on this strap. Wear that one well.
  8. T- I hope you are right. I have never understood why they didn't make a great rep of this a long time ago. I have wanted the boutique version since it first came out a couple of years ago and this would have been the easiest to replicate. Does anyone know the base comparable ETA/module (if any) movement which goes in this watch? My fingers are crossed for an accurate rep this year.
  9. I am loving this loop. I don't know who is doing what but if someone is going to produce accurate dimensioned case backs with pantograph engraving (the only accurate engraving for both case backs and even movements) than I am in for at least one.
  10. Congrats. per usual your work looks great. The Vegas was one of two Mullers back in the day that you could get dials for and make into really a good rep. The old school smaller conquistador with ETA 2892 was the other. By the way the roulette mechanism is every bit as good on the rep as on the gen. I actually sat in a meeting with a client who is also a long time friend and he was wearing the gen in gold. He let me play with for a while. And yes, he had bought it after a good night in Vegas. And although I can't remember the exact details the wisdom when they originally came out a few years ago was to buy two different models and combine the parts. One actually takes the dial perfectly but has an inferior case back and crown. The other has a good case back, crown and some other better parts. Even buying both and a gen dial you are into it for $300 or so if I remember correctly.
  11. Yeah, I know what you mean.
  12. Reps are getting really good but I think Collector is actually asking a different question and may not even know it. Would he rather have a really good rep of what is a $4,000+ used or $6,000+ new watch or a $1200-$1500 used gen. The YM is good enough that the answer lies in which one would he rather be wearing daily - a more upscale Rolex YM or a standard Omega. It is a testament to how good reps can be.
  13. Dave- Thanks for the review. It appears this one is even better than the Avenger. I may have to try it. I love the 44mm Breits but the one SA in SS I tried looked silly on my wrist. It wore much bigger than my Fiddy or ROO which are the biggest ones I normally wear.
  14. M- Congrats on your gen purchases. I do hope you will continue to drop by. Spend a little time on the gen forums and I suspect you will be back.
  15. Can't wait to see the Asian version of the 7753. I haven't owned a 187 in years but I have been getting a hankering.
  16. No problem there. The only problem case is the 1680. MBW 5512/2 with gen dial and all the trimmings:
  17. Damn you! TRL - I am having flashbacks going back years.
  18. You certainly can remove the etching on the case if you are talking about the old 36 cases. You will have to refinish the under side when you are done. I don't know the answer on the quality of ti cases generally though (i.e. is it worth going to all that effort).
  19. Very nice trio. Wear those well.
  20. I am loving that gold Seamaster calendar. Congrats on your familial find.
  21. You are so bad. I forgot to add: Ubi- Looks really good. Can't wait to see that next project.
