I am with FGD. Set that crown exactly where you want it off the case and then add a shim onto the inner tab of the crown. If you polish it well it will not be very noticeable. Otherwist new thicker crown (or one with shallower recess). The other approach i have heard about but never tried was adding a touch of metal to the tip of the lever. Start with the fatter crown first.
Well, someone should send him a quick message asking him if he knows it is fake. If he is honest he may not know. And no it is not even one of the better rep dials.
Congrats to buyer and seller. Nice to see such a great watch passing from one deserving member to another. B - Best of luck with the resultant follow-on project.
Hey P-
The watch is stunning of course. But I have to tell you..go get a strap befitting the watch. Nice first strap and all that but it is a travesty sitting next to that beautiful watch.
Oh yeah, back to the point. Back from vacation swinging a Ubi Daytona and the 170 for the Easter weekend - it's an all metal weekend:
Whatever it is you have one very valuable crystal. My suggestion is throw it on the watch and you will know whether it is a 28 or 63 crystal. I truly can't think of any 6mm cyclops other than the 40mm models and the 28L.
Little gmt inspiration for you :
Gen 6mm cyclops:
Original Watchmaster6mm cyclops:
If you are building a 63 and you really have a gen 28 crystal be forewarned that the 28 crystal most likely has different magnification than the 63 because the 28 movement (2893-2) actually has a secondary cyclops built into the movement. Although I do have to pile in and say I have never heard of AR on a 6mm. If it is gen is it possible that it is a crystal for the secondary issue last year of the 28? I never looked to see what size cyclops that one has. I have a couple of frankens with the gen 6mm crystal including a power reserve where I removed the movement's cyclops to make the magnification accurate. If you really do have a gen crystal you should PM me and we can talk about a swap if you like. By the way I don't think I would remove the AR since in theory a service crystal could have AR. And by the way every time I have ever sent a watch into Panerai for service the first thing they try and do is sell you another crystal for $575 telling you it is "chipped under the bezel". Seriously, I got that one on the last couple I sent in for quote.

Nice to see you back where you belong. It seems like only yesterday we were all bantering around on RWG 1. But I do have one piece of advice ..... don't even think about starting another forum watch project. After all it was your idea.

Given the quality and time you have spent on your 201A you will clearly want the older MBW. The fun part is you just add gen parts as you come upon them. The only downside is you start at $400 or whatever and by the time you are done with crown, tube, springbars, crystal and maybe dial you are over $1,000.
What is funny is Rolex elected to abandon all of their customers when they discontinued supporting vintage watches. No one has ever more deserved being repped. They leave their long time supporters in a hole...
J-
I suspected you would like that one best. And I do have to agree that I love the EL Primero version. It is a relatively recent acquistion from Ubi and the only Rolex that has been getting significant wrist time this year. And coming from Ubi it is of course keeping COSC time.
I do a fair amount of travel abroad and over the years have had customs folks look in my bags more than once. The customs guys can understand one on the wrist and a pair in a travel bag. In fact I have had nice conversations about collecting watches with two customs officers but I concluded that three was about the maximum I can carry around and feel confident I won't be hassled. Besides it gives me something to look forward to when I return.
Yeah, same bat time and bat channel. Now I am just trying to convince the boss to let me start a regional office here. Somehow I don't think it is going to fly.
Every year I head out to the Islands for a couple of weeks of vacation. And every year I go through the agony of trying to pick the 3 watches that will satisfy my horological needs. Those who know me well know that the thought of three watches for 2 weeks is torture. So here we go.
Swimwear:
Nightlife:
And for day wear and the occasional business meeting:
And yes I have all three builds for next year's trip underway.
It looks like one of the AP Offshore Montoyas. It is an excellent rep as most of the latest AP ROO's are. On that one be forewarned that the dial is a basket weave which actually shows the base plate of the movement underneath. And the base plate on the gen movement is finished fairly nicely whereas the rep is just brushed or unfinished. And as with all AP seconds at 12 you probably will want to get the movement to ensure longevity.
