  1. Absolutely great review. Thanks much for all your efforts. It is a great watch and the only one of the 44mm 1000's I have seen with a decent crown guard and crown. I must confess the bezel and markers are much further off than I would have guessed. The standard rep subs I have seen look better on that account. It is a great rep in any case and a wonderful review.
  2. Actually I don't think I have any Asian/Swiss hybrids anymore. The last one I did was the HBB Mellow yellow.
  3. That one I would bet money on. Ubi with one on the wrist and an empty watch box? By the way I just figured out I am heading out your way shortly. I will definitely see you a couple of times over the Summer.
  4. I am betting you ain't going anywhere. But I do have to say that I have watched Ubi go through these "time to redo the collection periods". In fact out of one of those became one of my "keep till I die" frankens:
  5. Gran- Congrats on the new hybrid. Over the years I have done a couple of Asian Swiss hybrids and they are labors of love. Yours looks great but next time save yourself a lot of hassle and buy the special edition with solid case back. It is one of the best "out of the box" reps in history.
  6. A- Excellent review. They did do a nice job on that metal in any case. The whole concept of exactly what steel it is has made me chuckle. If you have any experience dealing with Chinese steel manufacturers and distributors you will find that half the time the distributor has no idea what he is selling. They are not testing what they receive. They take what the factory supplies in good faith. And as for steel going to a rep factory? You don't think the Distributor does whatever he wants? But you are right it is a great improvement. And just to remind everyone duplicating the 904 steel is relevant for watches beginning with 1987 on the sport watches.
  7. Great projects and nice write-up. Welcome aboard.
  8. If you had twins you could name them Binge and Purge.
  9. Those are good questions for the ages but not the point of T's post. His point is quite simple. While he has been working to grow membership and finally reached 25,000 members over a period of years (and that is after eliminating more than 3,000 inactive members over the same time period) he takes a look around and sees another forum advertising substantially more members and doesn't believe it. A quick look and he sees what he saw. I must confess I got curious and tried it and yeah there are several thousand less than advertised there. Now in reality many forums do this. Heck you can add a specific plug-in to randomly add members. That is not the way T runs this site. Everyone can do whatever they want.
  10. Welcome on board. It is always great to have an "educated" noob on board. Can't wait to see some of your stuff. I too am a fan of Eddie having worked on a couple of projects with him and his silent partner back in the day. Looking forward to your posts.
  11. Congrats. That watch is looking fantastic. Wear that one well.
  12. George- Absolutely beautiful. Congrats. That will make one hell of a franken.
  13. I started with one of the MBW's and since then have been there and done it a couple of times.
  14. Exactly what I did. But then when I went to sell it to another great member here I couldn't pry the franken off of my father-in-law's wrist.
  15. You have no idea how lucky it is that that is all we lost. Cheers to T for catching the database crash as soon as he did and getting it back up so quickly. In any case, congrats on the 9B. I am very jealous. Hopefully I will have a couple of PVD franken projects to show folks which will be the best frankens to date but there is never anything as good as a gen.
  16. P- Very nice collection there and very cool pic.
  17. It is a dirty job but somebody has to do it..... Nice save.
  18. Agreed. It is all in the date and cyclops.
  19. B- That one is beautiful. Congrats. Wear it well.
  20. I assume so. It is nice to get a good buy but in truth this particular watch is not going anywhere.
  21. Too funny. I did try to buy one recently but it got very expensive. Gunnar you are too kind. And yeah I do love this one.
  22. I do feel incredibly lucky. And big thanks to Ubi and Nanuq who always answer my silly questions. I knew I wanted this piece the moment I saw it but I can't say I knew just how fabulous it is until they clued me in. And most importantly, big thanks to Ray0244 for offering up this beauty from his collection. Having collected the "other brand" in gen form for a number of years this is a fabulous way to reintroduce myself to the original Swiss brand.
