  1. Since joining RWG no more than half a day. It ruined me.
  2. Welcome to the club. Bet you never saw two on one wrist.
  3. All you Pre-V folks, please chime in and let me know what you think of the crystal height. As Ziggy has said he can lower it further. I am not sure what to do. bear in mind that the crystal in my pics is a gen and I don't really know how a standard rep crystal we would use would compare in height.
  4. Interesting, the no's are making a comeback. In all honesty, whether rep or gen doesn't really matter to me when it comes to modding. I do like the idea of building a 24A as well though. But still waiting for the mysterious Davidsen version.
  5. What can I say...it's the place with the fewest posts and the place where I choose to spend the most time. The knowledge is the best and the friends I have developed here are people I have gone to great lengths to meet in real life - and I have never been disappointed.
  6. Nope, haven't given up yet. This should be infinitely doable. Just need to find out what it costs. Here is a good side profile of the crystal on a gen to give you a sense of the crystal "pop":
  7. Glad folks are liking it. To be honest I am not exactly sure whose case it originally was. Another generous member actually donated it to the cause when I wasn't happy with the first try on my own. And in fact it came to me originally as an automatic now retrofitted for a hand wind. On the crystal the one in the pics is actually one of my gens. It will sit slightly lower when compressed into the case with a gasket but Pre-V's stick out high above the bezel.
  8. Hope springs eternal. Here is the latest prototype for the long awaited pre-v project. I finally got smart and roped in my favorite watch smith to help move it along. Lugs have been drilled out to accomodate the 1:1 strap pins and the bezel has been adapted to bring it closer to the case and to allow for proper "popping" of a gen spec crystal from the bezel. Still need to select a case tube but other than that I think we are looking pretty good. Everyone else agree? The next step is to reach out to a couple of CNC folks for quotes. I am not wed to any particular CNC shop so if anyone has one they have had an excellent experience with please let me know. The saga continues.
  9. Put simply, no way in hell does a 7750 date wheel work in a 7753 movement. I am looking at both date wheels as I write this.
  10. Thanks for the heads up. I have seen his stuff and almost bought a couple of times. I am sure some of his stuff is gen so you have to tread carefully.
  11. Looks fantastic. Wear it well.
  12. Wow! I know how much time and effort went into each of those pieces. What a wonderful collection. I would be ecstatic to have any one of those.
  13. I was perusing Ebay this morning and came upon a pair of red sub dials being offered currently: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200470796190&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200470796860&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT I had always wondered why the Red on Red Sub rep dials never looks the same shade or sheen as on the original. It looks to me like the answer (among others) based on the pics from the offerings above is that the original dials were first silk screened with white and then red. Do folks agree?
  14. Great collection. I love that Laureus. Someday.
  15. You're right but I can always send the watch in for service if it gets screwed up.
  16. Appreciate that. I actually do have one already hanging around but never got around to putting it on.
  17. Congrats - It looks great.
  18. Somehow I knew you would have one.
  19. A forum member was asking me about MBW red subs this morning so I started digging around the watch box and came up with this one. These pics are for him. Vets will get a kick out of this one. I did it years ago and over the years it has been touched by a number of modders both here today and no longer here. This one has all the usual - original MBW case with gen crown, tube and springbars, cg's and case refinished, insert with good pearl, relumed dial, Watchmeister's date wheel overlay, etc. Unfortunately I never got around to swapping the crystal but someday...
  20. I have had a 170 for a number of years now and although I will never sell it am actually getting a little bored with the anthracite dial. Over the years I have also picked up additional traditional sub t-dials awaiting the next 24A project, etc. It occurred to me why not swap out the dials. Bear in mind this is not about permanently changing the watch but rather swapping out the dials and putting away the original for safekeeping. Curious to get folks' views. Here are some pics: AS IS: DIAL TO BE SWAPPED: PATHETIC OVERLAY TO GIVE A SENSE OF WHAT IT COULD LOOK LIKE: NOTHING TO DO WITH THE QUESTION BUT I CAME UPON A ZIGGY TRITIUM RELUME IN THE PARTS BOX WHICH WAS SO GOOD I HAD TO SHOW IT (they even glow the same):
