  1. Received mine Lello and you're a champ ! :thumbsupsmileyanim: Looks fantastic and it's a huge improvement over the standard datewheel. ! A true 1:1 copy datewheel Here are some quick 'n dirty shots: Lello DW vs. Standard DW: Fitted to the movement -> excellent fit, no trouble at all !! Last step before putting hands on, need to align the dial a tad more, I'm waiting for my AR crystal to return, so no assembled pictures yet, but this gives you an idea of the excellent work Lello did for us ! Have a good weekend Verbal
  2. No matter what movement you use, the datewheel has to be modified, I still have an old 7750 from a panny and that datewheel has a smaller diameter than the one used in the GTXL. I haven't measured it yet but it's very obvious. So on the cheap Asian 21J movement they needed to modify the datewheel, but also on the 7750... I don't get it
  3. Check the Eyecandy section on TRC, Puretime has listed the differences and to quote Puretime : The one other dealers are now selling is easy to obtain, you cannot see it on my web because it is far away from a gen. Tomorrow I will do a side by side compairon on these 2 version to let you see. Some of the main differences: 1. True AR coating on my version but fake blue coating on the cheaper version. 2. Sapphire crystal on my version (non-Chinese Sapphire) but simple glass on the cheaper version. 3. True hard rubber on my version but soft PVC rubber on the cheaper version. 4. Modified Asian 7750 (28,800 vph) movement on my version but Asian 21J (21,600 vph) on the cheaper version. 5. 1:1 steel buckle on my version but a complete different buckle on the cheaper version. 6. Leather straps are also available on my version but only rubber strap is available on the cheaper version. Appearance difference will be analysed by the side by side comparison tomorrow. The cheaper version is a good try if you do not like this watch too much, but if you expect a 99% rep on this model, please wait a little bit more for my version and I can guarantee it will worth every cent. Hope this helps.
  4. That does indeed look good and I bet this don't suffer from a jerky seconds hand... I all cases, this was the last non ETA rep in my life, i'll go with Kruzer, focus on the higher end reps or add a few dollars more for replacing the movement.
  5. Boy was I excited when the postman delivered my long anticipated Chopard Mille Miglia GT XL. Felt like a four-year old receiving his early morning birthday present, unwrapping it like an idiot to find a , euh... well... let's see... Hucking Fell, I've been scammed for the first time from a resputable dealer here on the board aaaarrrgghhhh That indeed was my first thought when opening the parcel, and on second sight, I wasn't scammed at all, King found a revolutionary way of cheating customs, let's put it that way. Members who have bought recently from King probably found the same item in the EMS bag... I'm not gonna spoil the surprise :whistling: Anyway, after unpacking and facing the smell of vanilla it was about time for a closer inspection, and it does look like a US$ 3K watch in person, the AR coating is one of the best I have seen in a while (I don't own the Big Bang or the latest Breitling reps, so my reference is the 4th gen PO.) it feels solid, heavy and even the strap is reasonable with a very good deployant clasp. thumps up ! Even the 'sticker' on the rotor looks better in person, the images on the dealers' websites are no reference. So, why do I think it's not worth the $300... indeed , the movement... I know, I should know better after all these long posts about Asian 7750's and reliability and such, but hey, I still own a 2 year old PAM50 from Eddie, same engine, no chrono function and still running strong, so what the heck, give it a try since there is no chrono function on the Chopard either.. I woke up this morning finding it was 20.5 of April.. aperantly the changing of the date was a bit too stressfull during my midnight nap, and today, while looking at it, the jerky seconds hand bothers me even more. Some of you with the IWC Portu's out there know how jerky a seconds hand can be, this is worse, far more worse.. I guess I'll grab a swiss 7750 off Ebay and replace the Asian so it'll make me feel better All in all, overall quality is good, movement is an area for improvement but that's no news so let's end with a wristshot Enjoy your weekend
  6. Rob, great post, as usual, short question if you don't mind me asking; what did you do to make the center seconds hand fit.? Would love to know, I've had some great "fun" upgrading my Carrera, it all worked out well in the end but it was more luck than watchmaking skills.. and I'm planning on upgrading all my Asian chrono's.. TIA
  7. I guess we share the same language here :-) I have an orange 4th gen with genuine Ofrei clasp I'm willing to let go, PM me if interested. groeten,
  8. Guys, are there different models on the market.? I've found a few images from the caseback and I guess we have to wait untill version 2 is on summer sale....
  9. Don't know but if you check the first post you'll find updated info
  10. $328..... ouch... suddenly my excitement drifts away. Will have to think twice before ordering. Anyone in for a group buy :-)
  11. Sounds (smells) like a winner again !! There are tons of other questions to ask which will be answered when listed with all the specs, but with regards to my personal cashflow: will this also be released within the next 2 weeks, can i feed my kids for another week?? Thanks
  12. Hi Andrew, how do these Chopards smell Will we be surrounded by scents of vanilla this spring
  13. Excellent job indeed Lello, please put me on the list for one :-)
  14. Anticipation is killing.. :bounce: can't wait..can't wait.. :bounce: If you say it looks good, I'd buy one unseen Thanks for the update !
  15. @Ivan, The movement came off Ebay for EUR 140 (about USD 170) and the subdial hands fitted right away, I'm sure it's not a 100% fit as The Zigmeister mentioned, but the hands move smoothly when chrono is running and they all reset to "0" perfectly, but more importantly, they don't fall off when wearing The second chrono hand is a .025mm hand (http://www.ofrei.com/page499.html#12932) I've cut off the 'hand' and used only the bus plus the base.. Thanks for the compliment, I'm still waiting for a replacment dial from King, but I guess it's lost in the mail. The chrome ring around the bottom subdial is croocked, but that seems to be the case on all "red needles"
  16. Putting back the chrono hands is indeed a pain. To make it easier, try using either a bit of Rodico on a toothpick, the hand will stick on the Rodico and it won't leave any staines, or cut a cotton bud in half and use that as a 'pick-up and place tool'.
  17. Not easy but possible... for an amateur that is... This type of work must be a walk in the park for the The Zigmeister's and RBJ amongst us, but hey, i pulled it off and am very pleased with the result. Here's the idea; I got a Valjoux 7750 off Ebay some time ago (I was planning to install that in my Ti GST but failed miserably (lesson learned)), and it would be a good candidate for the new Carrera, the datefont bothered me so initially I figured out that a simple datewheel swap will do the trick but decided to swap the movement and see if I can do the trick.. When the Carrera arrived from King the datwheel looked like this: You see what I mean with "wrong" A side by side , on the left the Swiss Swapping the movement is easy, even for me but then the challange started, the hands and especially the center seconds hand. I've read The Zigmeister's post before and knew the hands weren't interchangable so I ordered the correct size from Ofrei. I was planning to use just the .25mm bus and glue it on the rep seconds hands, but is was easier to cut the hand down to just the center piece holding the bus and glue that on the rep seconds hand.. here's what I mean, hope it makes sense: The Ofrei hand didn't fit right away, it was a pain to get in on, mainly caused by the fear of breaking the movement in the process... All in all I very pleased with the result, it does look a lot better than the original datewheel plus I get the bonus of a real smooth running movment.. Thanks for reading
  18. Right... hard to explain but I'll try... I used the Ofrei hand and cut it down to just the tube and the base attached to the tube, I glued that to the bottom of the rep hand after cutting off the rep tube. hope this makes it clear, I have a few pics I'll post tomorrow. Regards, Robert
  19. Just finished the "heart transplant" and it all worked out well, the OFREI hands were extremely tight but it fits. The way I did it (and that qualifies to newbie watchsmith) is to glue the rep hand on the center bit of the Ofrei hand (basically trimming the hand down to just the circular bit with the .25mm bus).. I'll make a few pics in the morning and post them, all in all, I'm pleased with the result, a keeper for sure
  20. Sellers name is Lumpi1903 and here's the link. He/She doesn't list one right now... LINK
  21. Excellent idea and thanks for the effort !! I'll start the list , black one for me 1) Verbal
  22. Yes, they all fit, however the hour hand was a pain to get on but it all worked fie, registers are runnunig smooth, the hands are not falling off, I assembled the watch except the center seconds hand and had some wristtime for a couple of days to find out if the hands would stay in place.. hey, an amateur way of testing, works for me :-) the final idea is to use only the tube of the .25mm hand and stick it on the rep seconds hand, if that fails I'll try to get a genuine from the local AD.. The movement came from ebay, paid $170, (from a german reseller)
  23. It's impossible for me to measure the post and the hole, by the looks of it through a mag. glass it should fit.. i'll try the broach and see what happens.. Thaks for your input !!
  24. In The Zigmeister's post regarding the hand sizes he made an excellent listing of all the variable hand sizes so I new what to do when replacing the Asian 7750 from my Tag Carrera with a Swiss 7750.. Hour and minutes hands went all right, so did the sub-dial registers and I new I had to figure out how to attach the center seconds hand. No problem, in The Zigmeister's post it was all clear I needed the .25mm center seconds hand, so off to Ofrei and ordered a couple of .25mm hands to play around, these : HAN-6462 HANDS I know, not the same as original.. After receiving these and a couple of other goods, (didn't want to spend US$ 27 on shipping for just the hands ) I gave it a try but the damn things simply won't fit the hole is still too small... Am I correct to state the the .25mm The Zigmeister mentions is the same .25mm Ofrei is listing.? or what other reason can there be it doesn't fit ????? What am I missing here (besides the skills yeah :-)) Any help would be appreciated
  25. Damn, I geuss nobody was anticipating this.. It does look bad and it bothers me more than the datefont. I find it hard to believe there will be a second generation to fix this flaw (and perhaps the datefont) it's not a "hot" rep as the Pans and Ingy's out there. We'll stick to the old saying: a rep is a rep... learn to live with the flaws
