  1. Any thoughts or experience on the PAM028 Power Reserve?

Quite an expensive rep. Not sure I will spring for this as my first panerai, but is an interesting piece. Now to some more realistic ideas...

It's not available anymore. If you can find a used one, they go for around $700-800.

I like the 005, which Ive seem a bit more reviews of. Im a fan of the PVD version...

My question though... wouldnt both of these be display backs? Why would they choose not to implement that here?

The gen model of the 005 doesn't have a display back either. There isn't a PVD gen version of the 005 btw. That is a fantasy watch. Technically, there is a 195 which has the same dial as in the 005 but in a PVD case. It also has a solid back but has special edition engravings. Davidsen has a really nice 195. I'd go with Davidsen if you want gen looking PVD. No gen PVD PAMs have display backs.

Talk to Angus/Puretime. He currently has the best 111E (same as G really). It already has a thick crown and high canon pin. It comes with a display back. You really don't have to do anything to it.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Not to pour salt in the wound, but I did post back at the end of Oct. about this watch:

"I'm looking at the 2007/08 catalog right now and this exact watch is on page 40. Well, mostly exact. It seems the black dial with AUTOMATIC only comes in a SS/Plat/WG/something silver case. The black dial in the gold case has the word CHRONOMETER instead. The rest of the dial is like the gen except for this wording."

You probably didn't see the thread. Besides the wording, it's a great watch. The people that know Mont Blanc watches are probably even less than those that know Panerai. Most people think the watch writes since it's a Mont Blanc.

  3. I think it's more of an issue with the threads stripping on the crown after you wind it. The more it gets wound, the more you screw in the crown, the more likely the threads will strip. I don't have one but I've also been told the main cause is that the metal is soft and if you just tighten it you run the risk of cross threading it and that's why it strips. If you turn the crown toward you until the first thread clicks into place, you can then screw it away from you and won't cross thread it. Hope this makes sense.

  4. I think given the somewhat small production run of this base model at 1500 has made Gens quite expensive to get. There is currently one on fleabay. But the Pics did not seem that good.

    Yup, they are. I'm thinking of a 055 or a 116. I have a recent offer for a 116 at $4400. The 55 is higher than that.

  5. wrong dial dial,

this is a dial from the 16570 not 16550

the cream dial must be a rail dial,

Don't take this the wrong way but I'm not sure what you were trying to say. I'm interested in learning about these dials. Can you repost and clarify? It sounds like maybe English is a second language and we are running into a communication issue.
