Huh? Schaum...what? What do you have now in that style? FOR that kind of money you can get a LOT of watches! Is there any history to that brand or maybe to that particular model that makes it special?
-
JOE, Could you point me to a good review of this particular rep. I'm not too familiar with the base model you are using. Oh and BTW, great job on the PVD, too bad it did not work as expected.

Have you Tried DIY Re-Lume? Kits start @ $29.99
NotASolder replied to NotASolder's topic in General Discussion
I remember probably around 2004, taking a look at the TimeZone Watch School basics and smiling at the fact that thay had a whole class posted up about using a screwdriver. Of course by the time I had read through the 'class' I was still smiling, but for a different reason. I was now a little bit wiser. I would have never thought of that. Hate mail from DIY threads. It would make for a good thread title -

Missleading, badly phrased post edited. I believe what you use, Super Luminova, is what I've got from the factory in my +/- 4 year Seiko Black Monster. Still as bright as the day I got it. As to your later post The Zigmeister z, I am looking at this as a hobby to go along with the interest in watches. I'm sure if any of my EDC watches ever needs a PRO dial re-lume, I'm going to be looking to PM an expert like you. I'm sure the more replies a thread like this gets, the more forumites realize this is not a skill one will pick up over the weekend. -

@slartibartfast, This IS the stuff ***SOME MODDERS, SOMEWHERE...MAYBE*** use (besides the 'other' brand that's mentioned in the color comparo). The hard parts are: Cracking case, must have case open tool. I don't. Taking out the crown, must know how. I don't. Taking out the movement, must know how. I don't. Taking out the hands. Must have special tool. I don't. Scraping/cutting/filing out old lume without destroying/loosening markers/dials/hans. Must know how. I don't. Painting the new lume in. Must have the artistry/skill. I don't. So yes $30 bucks gets you in the door, plenty of fun to have with a custom violet or orange lume mix. I would probably start luming my flashligh bezels, car keys, pocket knife oppening thumb stud's, etc. I just want to see more of our dear members experience before I take the plunge and start playing, I mean Working, with this material. -

Please do. I'm sure as soon as the resident modders post we will not only see increased interest in DIY, but they will also see an increase on their bussines as some will realize it's not as easy as it looks. Post. Post. Post. I don't have beads, but please, SHOW ME YOUR PICS. -

@ ddesj, Here you go http://noctilumina.com/ @ hyster, How did you get the old lume out? Did it scrape off like dried paint? Like a fresh paste? How easy was to 'clean up' the part well enough for the new lume to stick? Common post 'ur pics!!! -
Have you Tried DIY Re-Lume? Kits start @ $29.99 I justnoticed that the full DIY kits from noctluma (sic) run less than 30 bucks and come complete with your choice of two lumes AND a tint of your choie. The site also says you can make the lume thicker or thinner so your application is either paint like or more like applying paste/butter (I am paraphrasing here). Seems to me this is a good combo. Have you Tried DIY Re-Lume? How easy is it to remove the old one from Rolex marker? From Panerai Sandwich dials? I would like to hear about your success AND failures. Also. Could you point me to good For Dummies... posts. Thanks

You can always make sure to leave your Rolex and Panerai collection to your least favorite relative. "I leave my entire Rolex Style Submariner collection (26 pieces complte with anchors and boxes) to my dear nephew Andy and my entire Panerai Style Black Seal collection (6 pieces complete with outer, inner box and CertifiDato) to aunt Jollie." Imagine their excitement when the will is read. They probably won't even notice the word 'style' in there. ******* I do wonder if one of the bigger collectors here were to 'buy the farm' unexpectedly; Will any of those left behind now that they ARE reps?

@ vbarret, Frankenstein? I guess you are not a big fan of the classic Seiko Bullheads
-
@ deepsea, Like I said, the idea is simple enough. Just like thousands did on the first decades of the 20th century, solder lugs to what's basicaly a pocket alarm watch, presto, Wristwatch.

r. rick, Maybe then I did not look hard enough. I peeked around Paneristi and only saw the $3,000 MSRP. I did not know any PAMS were selling at such steep discounts. $200 bucks at a quality jewlery repairer can probably get you a set of 24mm spaced SS lugs soldered on et voil

And to think I actually clicked that link feeling bad for having missed your rubber strap thread... Well I guess you could also use them as straps, more color and scent options than the Gen straps. And yes, I would be needing the bigger size (thick wrist).

Do any of Our Watch Collectors Offer the Anchor?
NotASolder replied to NotASolder's topic in The Rolex Area
craytonic, pug, thanks. L-dizzle, are you a Gen owner. How much for those items from an AD? I know this maybe a stupid question, but are these items freely available to non-owners a-l -
Wow, it looks like hell... in a good way
-
Oh, POTR I think i missread you. I though you meant anything before Steel. I now think you mean anything before Timex type rubber... Again, is the rubber strap NOT A 'CORRECT' PANERAI strap. What exactly is wrong with it? Do you think the strap is what 'SELLS' thw watch as vbarret once typed? Please elaborate.

Jesus, no ss bracelets. I'm trying to look for an option that will keep the PAM 'look' while being practical for EDC. It was my understanding that those waterproof skins: eel, shark, etc. where manufactured into straps using a non-water resistant 'filling' to give them thickness, an so the resultant strap was less water resistant than the name of skin itself might imply. Is the Rubber strap historically incorrect? Even on Paneristi well loved EDC PAMs are sold mostly with NIB rubber straps!

I'm beginning to think Rubber may be a dirty word here. I search for 'Rubber' and besides finding a post titled 'Uh, Me So Horny' (which was not exactly rubber-centric) the most recent thread I found with Rubber straps as the main topic was a 7 months old, group buy thread. As your fellow forumites have kindly pointed me in the right direction in my search for a Cheapskate-Newb PAM (special thanks to sssurfer and vbarret) I want to see what options are there for the aforementioned elastomeric band material. I live in the tropical US, no, not FL -any place where fruit freezes on trees IS NOT tropical- and if I remember correctly the last time I wore a LEATHER strapped watch, well let's just say the strap developed a 'notorious smell' within weeks. So I'm looking for a high humidity-cough*sweat*cough-weather resistant strap info, for my soon to be ordered PAM (if you help me out I may order a combo and save on s/h!!!) and in my NEWB mind that equals RUBBER. Any reason I see so little love for the Rubbers... are there similar / better options???

What Are the 2 Least Expensive PAM Rep?
NotASolder replied to NotASolder's topic in The Panerai Area
You guys and gals have been great. Just one more thing sssurfer, Do you recommend the PAM 027 aka Silix 056 -to which you linked- over the Silix 057 (the other $80 PAM ion that site) just because you liked it more or is there something terribly wrong with the Silix 057? How smooth does the sweep look with that big center seconds hand? Won't the sub seconds 057 be 'truer' on the wrist? Why is the water so hard in my neighborhood? Why do taxes keep increasing at the state level? When will I stop asking question and just buy the darned thing? -
Do any of Our Watch Collectors Offer the Rolex Anchor and Seal? ---I'm waiting for a restock of a certain modder's PAM stock offering, in the meantime I keep getting tempted by the Subs.--- While the Gen boxset and papers is considered 'cheap' and here in the community the search for 'rep papers' is looked at with a healthy skepticism, I am tempted to acquire only the little Rollie Anchor and Seal that we so often see in member's pics. I searched this (and 3 other) rep fora without any hits. Is this something that someone is currently offering?
