  1. This forum is timely. I just PM'ed The Zigmeister, per the instruction on his profile only to find his PM disabled. I had heard he was not scheduling new jobs for a while, I hoped I could still see his capabilities list So I guess modder window shopping is off, 'till past the holidays...
  2. Just to close this up. I faked left, then went right. I got a stock 177H from bk (the modder) $120 shipped. At the end of the first day of ownership, I must say I'm pleased. It does have the slightly sunken CG pin and low cannon pin, but fit and finish seems nice, tigh CG lever, much better lume than what I was expecting (this from someone who EDC a Seiko Monster for the last 4 years) and since I expected a crappy leather strap, I ordered it with the rubber one with a nice signed buckle. Already bought a BOB strap from the 'bay. Light bordeaux, no taper. German based strap sellers, I wonder if its any good for $14... Thanks to all who contributed. I await that 'Guide to Entry Level PAM'S' sticky.
  3. I recently saw a pictorial comparing the swan necked / dagger regulated Swiss vs. Asian. The main TELL was that the Asian version had an Incabloc shock protection system whle the Swiss used a different method (I forget the name, it's a tri-corner arrangement-Novadiac??). Since this is something that can be seen from most movement photos, Is this THE 'tell'?
  4. I'm not going to paprticipate in the finished project, which I think is great by the way. I'm leaning to the PAM side right now. Still allow me to ask: What's the relative hardness of the coatings? As that question popped in to my mind, I'm sure that it's one that would make a world of difference in this particular application. Great project!
  5. V, You could always wear GREEN (Verde, Verte) nail polish in your wrist shots. That should help.
  6. The only rep I've paid for is sub $150 PAM and that is probably my ceiling for chinese-movement-oh-it-broke-throw-it-away reps. Saphire + ETA, could probably justify another $100 as it would be a good price for any watch with suchfeatures irrespective of its 'Repness' Quality.
  7. It's a watch, not a Picasso. It's just boogles the mind. You would buy a watch, be it a $200 Seiko diver, a $400 modded PAM Rep or a Gen multi thou anything and if you were bothered by an easily fixed feature (or lack there of) you would put it away, 'live with it' or sell it rather than customize it to make it 'better for YOU'. Jeezz.
  8. I believe thinking like this is what separates Watch Nut from the general Gen watch owners. A watch nut will put a cheap looking NATO strap on his Submariner, no matter whether it's a Gen or Rep BECAUSE HE LIKES IT AND UNDERSTANDS THE HISTORICAL BACKGROUND. You may say, but...but...but I KNOW LV Subs are not a historical NATO strap wearing model, etc. It does not matter. There are Gen owners who would NEVER send their waches for repair outside tr Rolex network, while there are families who have owned Rolex for generations who would never go to Rolex once outside warranty. There are Gen owners who have custom dials made for their Rolex and get what they want. Who is going to do a 'standing wrist check' on a Rolex and seeing a non-factory dial, call him out (in your mind) as a a Rep? Paneristi are sometimes better, sometmes worse in this. Again the level of WIS'ism usually determines the attitude. Some would damm you for having a on OEM strap, while others will customize to their hart desires. It Is Their Watch. I agree the quest for the perfect rep is to match a Factory Fresh look, but one can not loose sight that once we mod away faults (shitzerland, oficine, wrong crown guards, ie OEM looking parts that are off) we CAN, if truly WIS mod as a Gen owner could to personalize and make the piece truly ours. A custom modded rep is an owner's pride, not "just a bad rep".
  9. As a proud AskAndy forumite I must say I think I've seen the shots before (recognize the cuff). Wow, did not realize THAT was the thirtysomething watch! Thanks.
  10. Surprising . That the quality rep for under $50 is a Rolex. Rolex 2 Everyone Else 0 chrgod, barret, Got any on the wrist pics? Anyone else want to admit/brag about their sub $50 pieces? I'm guessing there must be other bargains, specially in the more 'obscure' brands.
  11. I guess I'm not, since I wear my watches on the body side (underside) of my wrist.
  12. With my apologies to jromano for titlejacking. His recent post 'Quality Replicas for Under $100?' listed some of the Best Unmodded reps available today. That's right, at the same time the market goes upscale with $1,000 stock reps, what used to be a nice entry price, gets you into the CLose to State of The Art for unmodded reps with such names as Noobmariner and PO Xth Generation. No challenge there. Now what about $50.That's almost Canal Street Money. Yet I'm sure more than one of you has done the legwork and kissed a few frogs to work up an answer to the 5,000 Penny question? Please share your knowledge
  13. @TTK, Even from that angle you can tell that's a nasty animal. ...And the wombat aint pretty either. You see, now you are CONFUZED, i thought you were reccomending that because it was an automatic. LOL NOW, Who's lost his sense of humor?
  14. Well, lips got my vote. Strangely reminds me of Paris (strange because I've never been there). Would make for a great print on canvas. Second vote (uncast) was for Pocketwatch. Great composition and contrast of textures and colors. Honorable mention to the Black Monster Crown Macro shot. Because it's great and because I'm wearing one right now.
  15. Looks like someone is trying to steal my Thunder! http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=56086
  16. @ TTK, I have a 117H incoming from a modder. What brand of batteries would you sugest? It will be a daily wearer. @ Lord rasta, Wow, flash from the past. The good old times. Back 'in the day' dealers would not black list you, they would just say: NO WATCH FOR U! MBW, The original watch nazi.
  17. I just spent my Play-Dough on something else. Here's a bump for the afternoon people.
  18. ?????????? Huh? Did you even read the above referenced thread?
  19. **BOLD Emphasis Mine** In a world of screen names, avatars and alias, the above clearly implied TO ME, that personal information necessary to ID the particular customer would be posted. How else could a dealer boycott a customer without ID'ng the man behind 'bearcat'? You say I'm mistaken, fair enough. You have gained the trust of many here. I'm sure I jumped to conclusions.
  20. Ok The Zigmeister z, You can now start PAyPAling me my commision on all the new work you're getting because of this thread (like we agreed ) Or you can just do the dial on my new 177H
  21. Well since THIS post is in General Discussion... What about those that expressed support for bearcats idea. Should they be Blacklisted too? Or is it Blackballed? Let's hear the BUYERS opinion on this, here on General Discussion! I for one would not like to have my personal info - sent for a specific transaction with a trusted dealer- SHARED with ALL dealers because I've made a comment one forumite did not like (even when the forumite is TTK).
  22. UNIX SySAdmin... Hit them hard. Only one shot to make a first impression . From what I've seen here, nothing says 'I care' like a PAM Base with a ridiculously THICK leather strap. Or wear what Dilbert does
  23. It came running 4 to 6 minutes a DAY fast. Wow! And 50 bucks for a caseback openner. Double Wow! I'm sure it's one of those nice machined one-piece Al ones but still, for a $100 PAM like I will likely get, seems a bit high.
  24. That same site has this http://www.watchbuys.com/store/pc/viewPrd....p;idproduct=595 For $790. I'm not seeing the value.
