  1. Dont know if this has been posted before, but I didnt know about the micro-etched crown on the crystal of Rolex watches. http://www.qualitytyme.net/pages/rolex_or_replica.html
  2. From Australia, thanks for the work you are doing there, for without people like yourself the world would be a pretty miserable place. Best of health and luck with your ongoing collection.
  3. www.thewatchforum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2268 6th. post down. I think I would take that lump hammer and do something else!! ( WAFA )!!!! Griff View Member Profile Dec 19 2003, 03:04 PM Post #6 35 Jewel Group: * Member Posts: 8205 Joined: 23-February 03 From: Manchester.....as of City Member No.: 4 I utterly despise fake watches, and think the only fitting place for one is under the swinging arm holding a substantial lump hammer, and which I would gladly perform as a pleasurable task!!!! I do NOT consider a homage watch to be in this bracket one iota. A homage watch is clearly marked as to what it is, with the new makers name on it, but just in the style of an old watch with more usually a more modern movement. That is not a fake. If anyone presented me with one of those blatant attempts to copy a Rolex for example, with a fake Rolex name on it, I would smash it flat to the freaking ground with the very greatest of pleasure!!!!!!!!! I think blatant fakes are utter contemptable [censored]. As you can see.................I don't sit on the fence with issues like this!!!! -------------------- Moderation in bugger all Be seeing you Griff.
  4. My first rep arrived today ( 8 days ) It was ordered from the scam site exactreplicas.com This was 10 days ago , before I found RWG. I knew nothing about rep watches and how to compare them with gen. O.K. here goes. It wasnt the one I ordered, I ordered a serie special. The hour hand is slightly mis-alligned. No "swiss made" below bottom sub, ( though I dont know if this model had it ) Crown doesnt screw down , just pushes in . Pins in bracelet not screws. Stamping on clasp fairly light. Seconds hand doesnt sweep smoothly, this sweeps in 1 second intervals. No AR. ( though I didnt expect any ) It did cross my mind that this was a quartz movement ( no manual wind ??????) Im not going to complain, or send it back, ( they wont get anymore custom from me ). Every time I wear or look at this watch, will remind me , how I nearly lost my money. To be honest , I didnt really expect to receive a watch (any watch ). I actually quite like it , though it isnt a good rep. Pics. below.
  5. To all the members out there , that say they cant take good pics. Mine were below what is shown here, believe me. I simply followed the posts by Pugwash, turned off the flash, adjusted the white light setting, and got myself a light tent. No fancy lighting was used, just 3 household table lamps ( 75 watt globes ) I made up the first tent , out of a cardboard box, covered with terylene curtain fabric, ( use the search button, how to make a light tent )when I found that it worked just great, bought a light tent ( A$ 30 ) Jugde the results for yourself, they are only going to get better now. No bright or natural light is required, just the artificial light. ( sure you will get better results from more equipment, but its not the answer ). Simply , experiment, its amazing what a couple of good shots do for the confidence.! Long way to go yet, but I am improving. Go on HAVE A GO.
  6. Thanks for your kind words, the prop. is a Swiss, Watchmakers Topping tool. Used for rounding up wheels on watches and small clocks. It has been restored, and is made from German silver. ( no silver content ) It polishes up better than brass and doesnt tarnish as much. These topping tools are dated ca. 1860. This was bought locally, and come up occasionally on Ebay.
  7. Thanks for that simple but effective tip, I did inded get in touch with breitling and they forwarded the email to a Breitling rep. here on oz. The long and short of it, quote the model and serial no , ask politely and the e.t.a. is 6-8 weeks , cost A$60.
  8. "So here is a hypothetical answer. How will you ever know if the watch has been serviced, or pressure tested? (And especially if those "extra" seals have benn added?) You must TRUST that if a problem raises it's head down the track, a resolution may be found." I certainly agree, I will never know that for certain, I am taking it on trust, and I do trust that if any problem did arise, I am 100% sure that Andrew would take care of it. (taken from past comments by a host of members ) This is why I chose to put my trust in him from the beginning. And yes , I most probably didnt carry out due diligence in researching, I simply have found myself really enjoying rep watches , after a lifetime of being in clocks. I feel that I may have stepped on a few toes accidently, for which I apologise, and hope that the tower of pisa hasnt completely fallen over. Since finding RWG I have benefitted enormously from the postings and especially the help that has been given, so PLEASE do not have the wrong impression of me from the start of this topic. I am under no delusion whatsoever about rep watches, I think the terminology may be translated many ways by differing bodies. I think at this stage this topic must be ended. Many thanks once again, no offence to anyone.
  9. Yes , like I said at the beginning I am NOT putting anyone down, But when you say ,A warranty on a counterfeit watch? I was not buying a counterfeit, I was buying a replica to which there is a big difference, a counterfeit or fake is something which is sold deceivingly to be genuine, I bought a rep. with the expectation that the watch will perform correctly for say 12 months, hence back to my opening question.
  10. Hi All, ok, now to start with , I am not putting anyone down here, ( especially when I havnt even got the watch yet.) This is what you might call a hypothetical situation, and its my head trying to get around it. Just bought a watch from Andrew, (Trusty) , Rolex Yachtmaster, MOVEMENT: Swiss ETA 2836-2 Automatic, "This "PERFECT" YachtMaster Rolesium is specially sent for FULL SERVICE whereby the entire movement is completely overhauled, reassembled, serviced and re-lubricated with Swiss imported lubricants and the timing calibration adjusted to +/- 5 seconds per day (COSC Standards) Additional Seals and gaskets are added and watch is pressure tested to 5 bars and tested to 50m waterproof All of the above works are carried out by Swiss Trained Technicians" Great, no probs., I am certain, from what I have read from other members, should anything go wrong or amiss, Andrew will do his utmost to rectify the situation. But , nowhere on his site is there any mention of warranty, so the question is, just how long can a situation go on , when someone does his best? I dont think that I am being paranoid, but its just a question in my mind, by the way , I think that if I put this situation direct to Andrew,I am sure he would think , whats got into this f---wit? You may think the same? Could have got this rep. much cheaper other places, and I mean at more than half the price, but not with this movement and the extra serviceing and waterprofing. Cheers.
  11. Hi Eddie, dont worry is the first thing. Obtain a good quality steel bladed piece of silver steel ( drill steel , as it is called in th US) a smaller diameter than the threaded hole, put some kind of handle on the end of it (or bend it in a circular shape ) just something to get a grip on the other end. Grind or file a wedge shape on the other end , like a screwdriver, then relax. Put some what we call wd40 ( penetrating oil ) into the hole where the broken thread is. Make a cup of coffee, tea or beer , whatever, and give it sometime to do its work. Then firmly and carefully insert the wedge shape end into the hole and , pressing down turn slowly anti- clockwise. It will take a bit of fiddling about, but I am sure the broken bit will come out. Dont know where you are situated, but if you cant get it out, I am sure I can, I have removed many broken threads from clockparts in my time. I am in Australia. I dont have any spare parts. cheers Rod.
  12. Great to hear from the masters of the game, and that they are willing and able to share their expertise. I have studied and am still studying, your words of wisdom , because what cannot speak, cannot lie. Wisdom , when shared, opens up a new whole world. I thank you all for sharing your knowledge, so that we all may learn. Little grasshopper.
  13. Many thanks for your input, appreciate it. I bought this watch on the bay , couple of years ago, as gen, ( paid gen price ). After going through many posts and pics,on this site, I must admit that I am a tad confused and hesitant as to if, this watch is gen? It only came with outer/inner box /instructions, but no serial no. paper. I would gladly like to hear any comments ( good or bad.) I have put a full res. image at, http://www.members.westnet.com.au/rodwc/breitling ( 3.5 mb.) I have a navitimer in the post , (rep) which I am looking forward to. Many thanks in advance.
  14. Hi Guys, just to let you know that I think the quality of the images posted in RWG is nothing less than superb. Looking at them , I think of top professional photographers. The images are crisp, bright, and in perfect focus, ( unless a particular point is to be highlighted ) It leads me to believe that some of the members are using 16 megapixel plus , cameras, say Nikons. Would like to share this pic. of the only Breitling I own , (at the moment) Keep up the great work. cheers Rod.
