Hello everyone, Since there were a lot of different versions of gain weighted DD from different factories on the market last year, we decided to reshoot a comparison of weighted DD. In 2023, we did a comparison between Gen and EW, GM, and BP, and this time we compared Gen with AR, KF, THB, JDF (GM v4), and NOOB, a total of 6 versions. **Note: Gen is 228238-0059 produced in 2022, while the 5 factory versions compared are all 228238-0004. Front view Photographed by phone under lighting The sunburst effect on the dial of KF is not obvious, it need to be found by some angle. The other factories are clearer. The plating on the AR lugs is peeling off. People are more concerned about the color difference of the gold for this model. The yellow color of Gen will be slightly reddish (not sure if Gen may change color over time). The color difference of the position of the header is not obvious via directly compared with the naked eye, but there are differences in the steel strip between Gen and each factory. Gen has a more restrained glossiness, while THB and AR are more brightly, KF is slightly darker than these two, and JDF and NOOB are closer to Gen. Indoor natural light The difference in the color of the steel strip is not so obvious under where the light is not very sufficient in indoor areas. Photographed by phone in the sun The color difference between the picture color under the sun and the color seen directly by the naked eye is minimal, very close to the color of the real object. Bezel view At the position marked by the arrow in Figure 1, the length and shape of the bezel groove of THB is closest to Gen. The versions of other factories are slightly different. The gap between the KF and THB bezels and the steel band is the smallest, and they are closest to the original. Crystal view The glass height of NOOB and THB is the same as Gen, and the glass of other factories is slightly higher than Gen. Day window font view It's hard to eliminate the impact of the gold border of GEN, so we don’t compare the background color of the weekday font. For font, the ink of AR and KF has overflow, the font style of THB is closest to the original, and the font position of JDF is slightly higher. Crown and markers view The crowns of each factory are slightly different with gen. The shape of AR's crown is closest to Gen. In terms of scale, the scale base of NOOB inlaid with zircon is cleaner and the shape is closer to Gen. Dial printing view Overall, AR's dial printing is closest to Gen, with better gold paint color, font thickness and size. KF has a slightly larger spacing between the letters 'S' in the word 'SUPERLATIVE' above the 6 o'clock mark. The central axis and hands There are some burrs on the edge of the hands of THB. The hands of other factories are not much different. Rehaut view According to the angle of the picture, the inner ring glossiness of THB is closest to the original one, and at this angle, the mirror surface of KF and JD will form an obvious white edge. Crown view The Gen’s stem is a bit longer when the crown is in the winding position. The Rolex logo on the crown of THB is the most three-dimensional and the shape is closest to that of Rolex. Lugs view At the arrow position in Figure 1, the Gen lugs are a little longer than the endlink. By comparing side by side with the Gen, THB is closest to the original. But at the arrow position in Figure 2, the endlink of THB is much higher than the lugs. Side and back case Observing from the side and back, the lug shape of THB is closer to Gen. However, THB has faded at the gear position of the back cover. Back engraving of lugs The engravings on the back of the four lugs of THB are closer to the Gen. Movement view AR and KF use the VR3255 movement. THB and JDF use the SH3255 movement. NOOB uses the 2836 movement. KF, THB, and NOOB all use tungsten movement holder to increase the weight of the watch head. Endlink view Bracelet view At the position marked by the arrow in Figure 1, the polished surface section in the middle of the JDF and NOOB steel bands is not a single piece. It is likely made of tungsten alloy clad in a thick layer of stainless steel and then electroplated with 18k gold. (This is a personal guess, please tell me if there is any error). The total length of the Gen steel band is 25 sections. AR is 29 sections. KF is 25 sections. THB is 31 sections. JDF is 28 sections. NOOB is 28 sections. Engraving of buckle ARF and THB appear to use buckles from the same accessory factory, closest to the Gen. Weight data This is the factory-default weight, unaltered. Take Gen as the standard, remove the extra sections, and use the weight of 25 sections of steel belt. Well, today's post is here, thank you guys for watching. It is also a style that no one can avoid, so today it comes, without a doubt, this task is of course to be given to the most representative of the big gold Rolex Day-Date, mentioning the gold watch, the vast majority of people think of the first is certainly it, after all, this series has been deeply rooted in people's hearts, whether in advertising or film have its figure. it was in the films that I got to know it when I was young. Of course, I have to admit that the colour of EW gold plating is really very good. Bezel View To the naked eye there is nothing wrong with Bezels, but after careful comparison there is a subtle difference, the tips of Gen‘s teeth are a little more rounded, All the factorys are a little too pointy. Comparatively speaking, the lines of EW are visually more pronounced and closer to Gen. Crystal Side View The chamfering of the edges is a regular detail, and all the factories are excellent，But the Crystals all seem to be slightly taller. Crown and Stick View The crowns are all in good shape, Gen's stick are genuine diamonds, All the factory are zirconia, and when I compare them side by side, I find that there is not really a big visual difference, except that the genuine diamonds shine better under the light. By zooming in and comparing, GM and BP are a little better than EW, which have an overly visible crystal tube inside.In addition, there is a small problem with all factories, the snaps on the face of stick are a little on the long side. Oil Front View The colours of three factories are almost the same, they are a little bit brighter than Gen. This is not a big problem, within the acceptable range, the surface of Gen is a little bit more granular and more delicate. Middle Axis View The Middle Axis of Gen is pleasing to the eye，We wouldn't have to be too hard on this, EW would be a little better, GM and BP solid parts are too deep. Week window view This model of Gen comes with a gold rim, which is not present on regular dial , so we won't compare the window shape. Looking mainly at the side view, EW has almost no height, GM and BP have no problems. Weekly Font View There is no need to care about the position, the replica is certainly not Gen so centred, as long as it is not drastically shifted are acceptable, QC when checking clearly on it, for the three-dimensionality of the font and the degree of regularity, GM and BP to be better, EW zoomed in to see the presence of burrs. Calendar window view There is no problem with shape and height, the edges are also chamfered, EW has a blue coating as does Gen. Rehaut View Of the three factories, EW has a little better clarity, and the engraving marks on the surface are the same as Gen's. Crown Side View We can see that the inside of Gen is also gold-coloured when it is in the winding position after the crown has been unscrewed, and all three factories have apparently ignored this position, which can be hidden. If it had been wrap gold, this position would have been gold-coloured as well，I forgot to take a picture so explain it. Case Side View There is nothing wrong with the shape of middle case, from this view we can clearly see that all the factory’s Crystals are a little too high. Endlink Side View From the height difference between the bracelet and the lugs suggests that EW's are a little closer, but in reality this position is not too much of a concern. Caseback View We mainly look at the engraving above the lugs, first of all, to explain to you, Rolex in 2020 before the production of 18K precious metal models, the engraving is 750, the libra logo in the middle of the 750 numbers, and 2020 years after the production of the use of the latest AU750 engraving, and the librae logo in the middle of the absence of the 750 numbers, our Gen is the 2022 years, the use of the latest engraving, and all the factories are corresponding to the old version. Overall, EW has better engraving, deep and three-dimensional, especially the dog's head logo, which has some grain on the surface now . Also, we look at the screws that are leaking out, EW is gold color as Gen, but GM and BP have both ignored them. They use silver screws ，And that will be addressed in the wrapped gold treatment. Bracelet Details View The engraving on the Bracelet corresponds to the lugs, which I won't explain, but the GM and BP dog's head is really sloppy, it doesn't really matter, because even if the engraving looks similar, it is still easily distinguishable under magnification. Laser Mark View Movement View GM and BP are equipped with asian 2836 movement, also available in the A3255 movement version, and EW with A3255 movement. Data Comparison View Note: All measurements are in a clamped state, and there may be tolerance due to slight deviations in the position of the caliper. There is nothing to say about the size, the main weight, Gen removed a sections of Bracelet, the actual total weight to 210 grams, BP and EW are steel and gold plating, so the weight difference will be so much, GM is a tungsten steel counterweight version,, than BP and EW 40 grams heavier, although compared to Gen there is still 40 grams of difference, but at least there is a certain sense of weight, will not feel light and fluffy. In addition, there is another point to explain to you, the weight of the wraped gold version of GM has not increased, this is because in the wraped gold need to scrape off the surface of the gold plating, and then wrapped, so there will be no increase in the weight of GM. Hi Guys & Gals, This 18239 was (I believe) a StoneP sourced and Joe shaped case that was bought by RoloJack for his heat-treating/colorization project. From what I've read only a few of these cases and bracelets were a great success. The watch as it arrived from RJ was stunning but I felt it needed to go a bit further. The Date/Day didn't flip correctly, and often got stuck, and the bezel/crown lacked definition. Now movement winds like butter and the day and date discs snap over perfectly at midnight. So @mymanmatt and I sourced out some parts: Genuine smooth-as silk ETA 2834-2 movement genuine Rolex (hallmarked) white gold bezel - not a WG aftermarket piece (pricier) genuine Rolex white gold crown different day and date discs from Matt different hands from Matt upgraded sapphire/gaskets upgraded tube/gaskets to fit gen crown All in all, Matt did an incredible job taking this watch to the next level, and RJ truly got the colorization/treatment to White Gold perfect. I really wish there was more vintage rolex reps, i know theres vintage submariners, GMTs and Daytona reps but i wish there was vintage Daydates and Datejusts. For example, im watching the sopranos, Tony wears a 1980s or 90s Rolex 36mm Daydate Yellow Gold. I have found the new version of the watch but i wish there was a version with the stick dial and with the older clasp and the older bezel, it seems the newer bezels look thicker/bigger than the older bezels. Also Datejusts, i really like the older clasp and not the invisible jubilee clasp as much, i think it gives it a more authentic look and i just like the old school look.
