Hey Guys. I was googling 6542 gmt as one usually does when obsessed and I came across this listing from 10 past 10 http://10pastten.com/watch/ta718 Reading the description , a few things jumped out at me. He claims that the case "has been recently detailed with correctly matted case sides and razor sharp large beveled edges." Ive never seen any rolex with matted case sides before. They have all had been polished...or where they all brushed from factory in the early days? This case has been reworked , clearly but has anyone else ever seen an original with brushed sides? The Dial is a T<.25 but it is a gilt dial. The T<25 dials are known as service dials but this one is gilt? Never noticed or seen one before and for it to be tropical and so evenly tropical also...the stars have aligned on this piece. That "bakealite" bezel is in amazing condition for an original, wouldn't you say? Eric Ku has a good reputation in the Vintage Rolex Market and has probably forgotten more about Rolex than I know but does anyone else find this kinda odd? a replacement "gilt" dial but original bezel ? Anyway...it is definitely eye candy!

Does anyone know where to get newer style GMT bezel click spring ref. 317-16628? Or can anyone sell me one spring? I don't want to travel to another country to buy from Rolex AD It's longer and when used, it feels just the same when turning bezel both ways. Smaller spring feels little off when turning clockwise. Pics: Thanks (edited: added one more picture to compare)

My friend has a 1970's GMT Master in a very distressed condition as can be see from the picture. It does not have a bracelet and the back looks like someone used a screwdriver to get the back off. It also does not run. Obviously it needs to be restored before it can be used. Or sold. The question is by how much it should be restored. I would prefer to have it fully restored with new crystal, hands, face etc. But I know there is a good market for distressed watches in original condition. So how far should the restoration go? And what is it likely to cost? And what would be the value after restoration? Also, if I could buy it, what should I pay for it? Pardon all the questions, but I am new to the Rolex world.

Hi friends, It's been awhile since i've dealt with sourcing parts or trying to mod anything. I'm now feeling like buying a sub or a gmt master rep and mod it with some gen parts. (Used to have a secs@9 daytona two years ago, which I've wanted to mod - already had the gen crown, tube and pushers, eventually ended up selling all of the parts and the watch due to the lack of time) What's the correct tap to use for a gen tube fit for a modern submariner \ gmt-master ? (they both have the same tube if i'm not mistaken ? and I haven't decided yet about which one i'm gonna get and mod) and I'd be glad to know if any member of rwg is selling them, I'd better buy from him than someone else Many thanks! db

What is the best vintage Jubilee bracelet? I'm kind of curious about one for my 6542 (although I know it is not technically correct, it appears that a good deal of them were either special ordered that way or modified down the line) and would like to get the best possible one I can... Also, I know this isn't the place for it, but if anyone has one they wouldn't mind getting rid of, I'd love to buy it from you.

Yesterday, I purchased my first replica, a new ("unworn") rep GMT Master II. I joined this forum to learn about replicas and find some good potential sites to purchase reps from. This GMT came up on my local craigslist. The young previous owner knew nothing about this rep. He said he only wanted to "own a Rolex" when he bought it and didn't really know anything about watches. Here's what I learned from my initial exam. The owner knew nothing about the movement. It is a smooth movement, but aren't they all. I assume there's no way to know without having someone open the watch and examine. The crystal seems good quality. I could see with a magnifying glass the laser etched crown at 6. It seems to be etched very low on crystal, but I don't have a real one to compare the proper placement with. I read somewhere about a "water test", so I put a drop of water on the crystal. The drop stayed intact rather than spreading out as it might with a plain glass cover. I feel like the cyclops might be just very slightly off center, but maybe I'm just a little too critical. The bezel seems a liitle light. I can push on the edges and feel the "give" from the spring underneath. Wonder if that is normal? The watch itself is heavy, just as I would want it to be. The bracelet, however, seems light. I've read somewhere that this normal for replicas where the links might be hollow. I was happy that there were no scratches on the watch or bracelet. I wonder how well the gold plating is going to hold up to normal wear? The back has the "hologram" sticker, but I've read that having the sticker is really no big deal. The watch came in a green wooden Rolex box. Hard for me to tell how much like the gen this box is. But I suppose it's nice to have for the effect. I've worn it for a day now and am pleased with it. Interestingly and almost impossible to believe, the seller said that he bought this watch from a jeweler in town - one who sells authentic Rolexes. He claimed he paid the jeweler $500.
