highoeyazmuhudee
I'm planning on buying this http://cgi.ebay.com/BEZEL-INSERT-RETAINING-RING-FOR-SUBMARINER-BLACK_W0QQitemZ290324104954QQcategoryZ57714QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3907.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%252BDDSIC%26otn%3D12%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D54 cause im out of options for my flawed euromariners bezel assembly (retaining ring takes on moisture and the bezel ring is too short)I cant find any spares and wm9 parts are supposedly back ordered. does anyone have any experience with watchbandmans parts? any thoughts? insights? freddy333
Search RWG for 'Mr. Slimeball' & if you order from him, good luck (you will need it).
alligoat
I didn't believe Freddy when he said Watchbandman50 was the same as wholesaleoutlet550/jewelryoutlet999, but I have since found out that Freddy was correct. This is one of those deals where you take your chances. If you were able to find gen Rolex parts, I'm sure they'd cost double the $129. Keep us posted if you do take a chance. highoeyazmuhudee
maybe he's changed his business practises since then. His feedback isnt terrible but he does keep all items private so it's hard to tell what feedback is for what. but besides that I really have no choice and this is all that stands in my way of finishing this project. He assures me it'll fit 100%, I just hope the metal is of good quality and that the bezel ring coin edge is at least accurate. At the very least I hope it's as good or even better than the stock MBK quality one. Unless I can find another bezel assembly (wm9 is sold out for who knows how long)I'll more than likely pick this up next week and i'll post my findings and experience with some pics for you guys to judge the quality. thanks for the prebuying input. freddy333
He assures me it'll fit 100%, I just hope the metal is of good quality and that the bezel ring coin edge is at least accurate. His usual MO. A few years ago, I was looking for a pair of aftermarket 580 end links for my 1665 that would fit gen (2mm) springbars. So, prior to my purchase, I emailed Mr. Slimeball 2 questions (I am posting them here verbatim) - 1. Will your end links fit genuine Rolex 2mm diameter springbars? His reply 'Yes, no problem'. 2. Are the parts I will receive exactly as pictured/described in your ebay page? His reply 'Yes, same as ebay'. The end links were rubbish, the springbar hoops were about .5mm too small (no way would a 2mm springbar ever fit) & they looked completely different than his pics. Initially, after sending him good, clear pics as well as a pics of the end links advertised in his ebay page, he agreed to send out the correct links. After nearly 8 weeks of email exchanges (he kept saying he never received the old end links back even though I also sent him (by email & standard mail) copies of the (signed, by him) USPS proof of delivery), he finally sent replacements, which not only looked completely different (& wrong), the replacements were missing the springbar hoops entirely. After pointing this out to him, he stopped responding to my emails, so I registered a complaint with Paypal, who, after receiving all of my paperwork & pics, AMAZINGLY, sided with Mr. S. The only black mark I ever received in all of my dealings on ebay. I do not know how he does it, but I have heard of similar experiences from a number of other ripped-off buyers. And to add insult to injury, I subsequently ordered from him 2 times after that (since no other options existed), but with the exact same result (crummy, incorrect parts). In each case, since the parts were cheap, I never bothered to register additional complaints. When dealing with Mr. Slimeball (using any of his numerous aliases), BUYER BEWARE. alligoat
searching ebay, I found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/BLACK-BEZEL-INSERT-COMPLETE-SET-FOR-ROLEX-SUBMARINER_W0QQitemZ290352040550QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439a548a66&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 This doesn't have the bottom ring from what I can tell, just the flat tension ring, also don't know if it has the click spring. But it might worth checking out.
highoeyazmuhudee
thanks for all the help so far. I found a GEN for whoever else might be looking...too rich for my blood tho $$$ http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolex-Submariner-Bezel-Insert-Luminova-16800-16613-2x_W0QQitemZ390086712443QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5ad2fadc7b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
highoeyazmuhudee
ALRIGHT, I just paid for the assembly from watchbandman, lets see what I get and how long it takes... pictures and review to follow.
highoeyazmuhudee
OK I got the part today. shipping was quick initial impressions are "ehn" fit and finish compared to mbk is slightly less, this part has rough edges on some parts where you can see where it was milled and feels like slightly cheaper metal, especially in the flat friction washer. the auction stated it came with instructions but the instructions consisted of how to install the bezel insert ONLY. If you know how to install the whole bezel assembly then chances are VERY good you wouldnt need a reference for the bezel insert. it didnt come with a rubber gasket, so luckily i had one, after installing the gasket it didnt seem to stick out the bottom of the retaining ring as much as it did on my mbk retaining ring. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing the retaining ring went over the crystal and gasket with very little effort in comparison with the mbk one where I had to use a vise and a homemade PVC press die, which I was preparing to do again with this one. given that I hope it actually is water resistant. the bezel ring edges seem a little flat at the coin edge. On a side note the bezel ring fit the MBK-euromariner retaining ring just fine. Bare in mind I didnt try it with all parts installed but just wanted to see if it would snap over the retaining, turn, and stay in place. it did. so this may be another option for someone with a defective euromariner bezel ring (teeth in the ring are too high) Here's where i ran into a problem with the retaining ring from "watchbandman" the hole for the click spring seems only 1/4 of how deep it actually should be in order for the click spring to insert into it, in actuality the click spring wont stay seated in the too shallow hole. it's just too small, even the MBK is perfectly milled. So that's where I am. options? find a 0.40mm drill bit, and use a handheld pinvise to deepen the hole about 1mm< or return it and have an unfinished watch indefinitely what do you guys think? is using a pinvise and a 0.40mm bit to deepen the hole a good idea? picture included: you can see the tiny click spring hole on the retaining ring
jmb
If it's good quality stainless you could be a while with a pin vise, better to use a drill press... If you run out of options I may be able to help...
alligoat
If the retaining ring hand presses on over the crystal and gasket, I would figure you will have water problems. I just put a gen retaining ring on my Euro V3 and had to use the crystal press to get it on. Haven't had a chance to get to the watchmaker to check WR yet. Used a flat tension washer from J & K watches and the old Euro bezel- very soft click and can be pulled off. But at least it's together- will check WR next week. jmb
As far as the loose ring, maybe make a "shim ring" out of tome heavy duty aluminum foil and then press on the ring as alligoat indicated. It may take several layers to get the proper thickness and once pressed on you can trim off all the excess and nobody will ever know - except us! highoeyazmuhudee
is it WATERPROOF? the answer is NO ran it under cold water for a second and fog formed under the crystal back it goes to the land of Armadillos thanks for the offer of help JMB and alligoat for your insights will my Sub nightmare NEVER end? I just wanna wear this damn thing!
