Gatchaman
Anybody know what the hand lengths are for the DJ?
freddy333
Sorry, no. I have never had a reason to measure hand lengths. Why?
Gatchaman
I'm making a Franken and wanted to know how close the Tudor 2824 hands are to those of the Rolex 3035 hands.
freddy333
No idea. Some Tudor & Rolex hands (of similar design) are interchangeable. If the hands both look the same & are used on similar types of models, chances are they are the similar lengths. The real question is whether the hand tube diameters match? Often, because alot of Tudor movements are based on ETA movements (I believe the 2824 Tudor is a modified ETA 2824), they are different. In some cases, you can enlarge a too-small tube (using a broach - a small, round file used to enlarge holes) & in some cases, you can reduce a too-large tube (using a staking set). But I have never tried to interchange parts from those 2 movements, so I cannot help you there.
kbh
17mm 15mm and 11mm respectively for the set I have on my desk. Can't guarantee they are all the same though. By the way, I'd recommend Clark Watch Parts on eBay for decent quality Tudor hands. Listed as "Nostalgia2000" I think. WholesaleOutlet990is not so good. tomhorn
I was told the gen Tudor Prince hands would be a direct fit to a 2824, so I bought a NOS set of them for my franken DateJust build. Don't have them in hand yet, but will update the thread when they arrive. Assuming they are correct, they can be found pretty inexpensively on the Bay. I paid $11 including shipping. Gatchaman
But, the big question is, are the Tudor hands for a 2824 movement the same length as the Rolex hands for a 3035 movement? From seeing various photos of Frankenjusts, my conclusion would be no. The Rolex minutes and seconds hands are longer by ~1mm. I just want to be 100% sure so that my Franken, other then its internals, are as close as possible to a gen DJ. freddy333, the tube diameters don't match. I already looked into this. ETA 2824 hole sizes: 90/150/25 Rolex 3035 hole sizes: 95/140/22 kbh, thanks for those ETA lengths! Edited September 30, 2009 by Gatchaman

Hands arrived today. A quick measure and I have: Hour = 11mm Minute = 15mm Second = 17mm Sorry, but can't comment on the hole sizes. Also haven't tried fitting them to a 2824 yet. Hope this helps ... Gatchaman
Hands arrived today. A quick measure and I have: Hour = 11mm Minute = 15mm Second = 17mm Are those measured from hole to tip or the entire length? Regardless, the minute and seconds hands on the DateJust are the same length, when measured from hole to tip. Both hands should superpose each other and should reach to the top of the minute stick markers.

Both hands should superpose each other and should reach to the top of the minute stick markers. Those measurements were for the entire length. Both the minute and seconds hands appear to be a shade over 12mm from tip to center of hole, and the same length. The hour hand looks to be a shade over 8mm. Since I am using a ruler and my eyeballs the 'shade' probably isn't all that accurate, but I would guess just short of half a mm. Whether it's 'right' for the DJ, I don't know.
