RWG Technical
I think someone used steel wool on the case and what you see is bits left over. I have yet to see any rust on any of these cases, and highly doubt that it's the actual case rusting.
P4GTR
That looks like an isolated particle, on the surface, bleeding out. More than likely this will be a quick clean up during crystal change. Keep your chin up, it will be ok! Let us know.
Guest avitt
Here's what to do, Cats: Strip the case down, and simmer it in alum for a while. This will remove any steel impurities on the surface, and avoid any rusting in the future. When I did this while removing a broken tap from my MBW 1665 case, I notice that a couple of small "pits" developed in the case. I can only assume that these were bits of inferior carbon steel, which were dissolved by the alum.
Jkay
...........and don't make me use Google either. I have no idea what a 'luddite' is. Sometimes this whole 'internet' thing makes me want to smash my computer against a wall. Technology. Pfffffffffffffffft! Luddites burned the library of alexandria .. didn't they? They liked to smash technology .. just like you!

highoeyazmuhudee
my guess is misc mineral deposits in the steel, not the actual steel its self.
tudorking
Interesting thread, never heard of Alum before! On those latest pics do I see that this "new" version of the MBW subs don't have the groove for the gasket under the retainer ring? Am I really slow and everybody else knows this already? regards TudorKing

Cats
Frank, I already put it in isolation with maximum security. A good clean up during the next modding session on this one will do the job. One of the modds will be a gen 127 TOP HAT. Thanks for your offer and advise Carpe Diem Cats
