Servicing an A7750

LapTime

Recommended Posts

So i've decided that I should get my TaG Carrera serviced. It has the usual A7750 (high beat) engine in it, and so far has run flawlessly (going on 1yr 9months). I want to keep it for many years to come, so I figure that a good service is in order. My question is this; can I leave this in the hands of a local watch smith, or is this something best left to the guys with experience on this movement? I understand that they're tricky to find parts for, tricky to work with, and that its best to have someone work on them who's done many in the past. My fear with the local guy is that he wouldn't do such a thorough job with it, or couldn't source parts, etc etc.

That said, can anyone reccomend a good 'smith in Colorado? :pardon:

Good question. Zig is the only one I would trust, however I could really use a local option for a few things, too.

here in lies the issue of finding a watch smith that is "rep friendly" .. plus finding one that is as knowledgeable as Zig..

don't go saying I'm patronizing.. just telling it like it is.. weather A7750 or genuine.. it's hard to find the caliber of work that the Zig does.. AD's included.

I've grown to know that sending it to Ziggy is well worth the quality of work that is done..

edit add.. for those of you that don't realize what full service by zig means.. the entire movement is dis-assembled and cleaned, oiled , timed .. etc.. some watch smiths simply drop oil on the movement and call it serviced.. I've received genuine that have been said to be serviced.. only to find enough oil on the movement to service a dozen watches..

so just because someone has a shingle up does not make them a Horologist.. and to leave a watch for repair for 5 weeks is the same as sending it away and getting better quality work.

I don't doubt that, although truth be told I have work piling up because I simply cannot afford to get it done.

LT, from what i've gathered keeping up with whats said around here for a while now, the A7750 has some intricacies that would probably be best served by only the man himself. My "keeper" A7750 pieces (ok, piece. My Skyland V3) will go to Z, or no one at all.

I cannot vouch for Vac, as I seemed to get the cold shoulder to my communications even when I told him we apparently lived close to each other.

yeah.. I've heard from very experienced members that have tried working on their A7750's that they have a harder time with it than the gen Rolex movements.. must be the same with the Valjoux 7750's..

you on the West coast right Pag???

As other's mentioned, if you really want to service it now, get in touch with one of the well known modders/horological specialist that will wrok on it and have seen them before.

They will take care of you.
