jdkno Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I know this is along the lines of the best sub and I apologise. I have searched and read as much as I could. I come to an answer then stumble onto another post that contradicts everything else and puts me back at square one. So rather than which is best maybe I could just get a general feeling for the top 2 or 3 then do the research from there to come to my own conclusion.
Drulee Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 DSN 040, DSN 172, DSN 091 ... see a pattern forming here
milesd Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 While I'm a very happy 040 owner, I'm not really a fan of the lug shape of his new cases. They are too fat and stubby: I do love his new T dial though:
unregistered Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 agree about the lug shape, but for best out of box, DSN really is the only place to go. Cartel Ti offerings are shocking. May throw the 240 in there as well if the bezels are ok now.
Drulee Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Bezels are fine, but you can still fill the sub-dial with water and stick a guppy in there
unregistered Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Bezels are fine, but you can still fill the sub-dial with water and stick a guppy in there I personally quite like the sunken subdial. Quite nice. I know Mattuss has an issue with the sunken datewheel
jdkno Posted February 25, 2010 Author Report Posted February 25, 2010 Cartel Ti offerings are shocking. By "shocking" do you mean in a good way or a bad way? I am guessing the latter but just want to make sure.
qwest905 Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 yup that 040/01a dial is just lovely!!!
hackR Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 i'd hunt down some old skool case models... i have the old skool 036 and old skool 172...both are NOT DSN...and are really great pieces...but both need reluming and some minor tweaks to make them better... the 036's lever pin is installed upsides down (small end is facing up)...so it will need a simply pin fix... both old skool pieces have blue tinted AR on the inside of the crystal...another simple fix - it comes off easily with staninless steel polish/creme... my 2 cents... **** not sure these meet the out of box reference - but i think these are the best pieces to get and mod...superlume is only gen-like when it's done by a lumer and not the factories...IMO... R-
Drulee Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Just took some pics of a few titanium cases I've collected the last few months:
unregistered Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Just took some pics of a few titanium cases I've collected the last few months: Whats with the green tint on that crystal? And is that a 082? After seeing and holding the gen, no rep does it for me now. The dial is vastly different.
jdkno Posted February 26, 2010 Author Report Posted February 26, 2010 Is this case a decent starting point for anything? http://www.siswatch727.com/index.do I would prefer a ti Pam with date I guess the 091 would be the logical choice but it seems there are some pretty obvious flaws on the dial i.e. lume markers and the distance between the sticks and the lume markers. If I could get closer with a no date I guess I would rather accuracy over a date window.
hackR Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 @Drulee --> who's ti case is the one without a strap dimple?...
