Swapping a 2824 for a gen 1120 on a 2254.50 SMP "old factory"

Am i mistaken or the SMP in your pic is a heavily modded franken?

How did you mod the pearl? It looks great.

Did you also replace the crystal?

I'd say... yes replace the movement, the watch is a beauty and it's well worth it.

Not sure though if it's a straight swap.

Thanks but I'm not sure this one can be called "heavily modded".

Only the crystal and the dial are gen parts.

The pearl is not modded, the insert comes from this rep from andrew:

Nice one isn't it?

Edit: I forgot, bezel is gen too.

I think the only issue may be stem alignment as the 1120 is a bit thiner and you may need to space the dial .5mm away, Pugwash had a similar issue with a planet ocean.

That's what I remember.

Not sure of my skills about that...

Hello Domenico!

I have done a swap like this several times.

The minor different in movement height is not really an issue. I haven't had any problems with mine.

only suggestion would be to get genuine hands. The rep ones don't cut it.

good luck

Thank you, Good to know.

Yes, I'll order the hands from ofrei.

I'm afraid about the CGs too:

Maybe they have to be shaved in order to put gen stem and crown?

What do you think about that and what kind of extra parts do I'll need?

Thanks.

You will need a spacer between dial and movement in order to align the stem. The difference is 0.30mm.

Also, you will probably need to change the CP and HW. You will need to go up 1 height. 0.25mm. This is because of the spacer between the dial and movement. Also, your date disc will be sitting recessed from the dial. You could always try and find a 2834.2 date disc that is black with white printing.

or... to avoid all of this, find someone to make you a spacer to go between the dial and rehaut. Machine the ID of the spacer in Stainless to match the ID of the rehaut. Probably not very noticable and will solve all your other problems.

One thing to watch out for; the dial feet will may be too long when fitted to the 2892/1120, as the 2824 from which it came is a bit thicker. You may need to take a bit off the ends of the dial feet, otherwise the rotor might not clear them.

EDIT: Disregard; I read in your thread that the dial is gen, so it should fit just fine.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks mates for your advices!

I'll try to finish the job... And if I can't, Domenico should do it...

@rcaf2008: It was more than one year ago, so I'm not sure about that (I didn't find the datas on my PP account) but I think it cames from the ebay seller "bab409".

He always sells nice Omega parts, I bought some used gen parts from him.
