Looks like it went to 'nam. "found in watchmakers desk" looks like it was found in a warzone.
FxrAndy
looks like it was attacked with acid or something, and a grinder, i wonder what his arm looks like
patinga
Who would do that to a poor innocent watch?
By-Tor
Maybe it survived from a house fire?
FxrAndy
could be, but how hot would it have to be to do that to a case?
fijiman
looks like it abused!!
jchurch
My guess is a failed attempt at removing the coating. acid (crystal seems ok, so I don't think it was soaked in it at least not over the top), sand or bead blasting (again crystal appears ok, so I am thinking taped over it or something else was done). I was thinking a fire also but then again the crystal I think heat high enough to do that with the finish would have done something with the crystal. Bike Mike
No amount of heat caused by a fire is going to make the case pit like that. Wonder if the owner was into diving into some deep depths as high levels chloride will cause this kind of damage in 316 SS.
yodap
But gens are 440 steel not 316, only our reps are made of 316L. BTW the caseset is rep. Greetz.

Really don't know what caused it but I am sure it is an interesting story.
hackR
definitely rep...v1 pvd skyland... but tell ya what - if it had the pushers and crown it would make a fun distressed piece for $100usd... the question is: how's the crystal and why isn't the crystal distressed...wonder if the owner got the bezel off and removed the crystal...that, unto itself, is a big win...
