mad_man_may Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Hi guys I have been looking at Panerai from the sidelines for a long time now. I am now looking to take the plunge on a Pam Radiomir 183 Rose gold. What do you guys think? Good or bad? What are the flaws? I have looked in the forums but haven't been able to find much information. Would really appreciate your comments and/or photos. Thanks
plaifender Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 There are a few different repped versions of this watch. It's a fairly popular model but unfortunately I can't tell you much about it, besides the fact that ive thought about purchasing one several times.... It looks soo classy
mossanti Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 I love my pam 183..but I dnt have the Rose Gold! It is a classy watch and more sexy to woman around u.LOL
mad_man_may Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 Thanks for your comments. I would like to find out what other members think. Are there many here who own a a 183? What do you think? Is it accurate? Will it need any mods for perfection?
plaifender Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Will it need any mods for perfection? of course it'll need mods for perfection.. notably it will probably need a gen dial if you want it perfect. Even though pams are so simple in design. NOT ONE has every been made that's even close to perfect. There's alot more nearly perfect breitlings, rolexes, hublots and omegas... but for some reason the factories can never get the perfect panerai!
mad_man_may Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 Well not gen perfect, more rep perfect. As in, if someone who knew panerais saw it on my wrist, would it be easy to see it's a fake.
robertk Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 The Pam 183 rep is a classy watch. Does it have flaws? yes, as do all reps. However, on your wrist no one is gonna notice. Great looking watch. You'll enjoy it.
txcollector Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 RG is usually a hard choice because the color is usually off. Another thing is the display caseback. The rep movements can't hold a candle to the gens. As for the dial, DSN is pretty good. Another thing to look for on rads is the length of the crown tube. Some cases they are too long.
mad_man_may Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 Thanks. I think you might be right about the Rose gold. I also wasn't too sure how long it would last before wearing off. Do you know of any dealers who sell the best radiomirs? Who sells the dsn dial version?
plaifender Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Thanks. I think you might be right about the Rose gold. I also wasn't too sure how long it would last before wearing off. Do you know of any dealers who sell the best radiomirs? Who sells the dsn dial version? DSN is abbreviation for DAVIDSEN... DAvidsen is a dealer.. Check the dealer section you should find him
mad_man_may Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 Thanks guys. Ask me about Cartier and tag reps and I can return the favor. The main reason I like the 183 is because I'm not to keen on the crown guards. Are there better panerai reps than the 183 that don't have a cg?
txcollector Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 That would be the 232 but that's a large 47mm.
kbh Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 Seems like a year or so ago, the 183 was the "must have" Panerai rep. It must have been pretty good.
aardian Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 Here's your recipe of success: 1. Contact vaccum. 2. Cartel case (normally available for H series). 3. A6497 H movement with swan neck. 4. DSN Dials & Hands --> vaclume. 5. Tall H3 canon pinion mod. 6. Shortened crown tube. 7. Chief AR. I have exactly that except with a G series movement and never regret anything.
Star69 Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 main problem for me is the case - way too "round" - looks like a overpolished gen after 30 years of wear cheers, Frank
mad_man_may Posted August 20, 2010 Author Report Posted August 20, 2010 The 183G is a fabulous watch Wow! What dealer did you get this from? Did you do any mods?

mad_man_may Posted August 20, 2010 Author Report Posted August 20, 2010 What's the difference between G and H? I've only just noticed this.
wat44 Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 ive got a 183 and never felt the need to mod it - gets regular wear one of my favourites
marinamm20 Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 What's the difference between G and H? I've only just noticed this. the 183G says on the dial RADIOMIR PANERAI BLACKSEAL and have the G movement the 183h says on the dial RADIOMIR BLACKSEAL PANERAI and have the H movement but it is a classic looking watch :-)
mad_man_may Posted August 20, 2010 Author Report Posted August 20, 2010 Thanks! Gives me more reason to pull the trigger

fugjostle Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 (edited) What's the difference between G and H? I've only just noticed this. The 183 has been in production since 2004 and the letter is used by Panerai to denote the production year. G was 2004 and H was 2005. The G series movement had the "panerai" deco but the H series uses the new cotes de geneve deco. Regards, f. Edited August 20, 2010 by fugjostle
