Repair of 21J Movements in US?

The title says it all. Anyone out there know of someone in the United States that's willing to fix a rep with an Asian 21J movement? Most of the better watchsmiths here (The Zigmeister, Vac, et al), seem to shy away from them due to lack of parts or inherent problems with those movements. I'm looking to get a watch fixed that has some sentimental value.

Is there a particular reason you want to keep the existing movement (date wheel, etc)? New DGXXXX movements are only $15-$30 depending on where you look. Just looking at Ofrei (which is not where i would necessarily buy from) they have most of the common chinese movements for those price ranges.

It would probably cost more to have it repaired that to purchase a new movement (unless the problem is VERY easy to fix).

I absolutely agree. You replace Asia 21j movements, not fix them.

+1 Ofrei has these movement between $12 and $27 dollars. (You may need your high cannon pinion from the rep though)

The best value is to install a genuine Miyota 8215 in place of the asian copy. 99% of the time the Miyota is compatible with the existing 21J.

The Miyota is a workhorse, very reliable, rugged, and will outlast 100 cheap asian copies...do it right and do it once...

I am not sure what models it's a straight swap, there is so much variation in the 21J auto's, I hesitate to say it is straight swap for anything.

You really have to try it out to know for sure.

there seems to be a lot of different asian movements, how do you tell which one works in a particular watch or is it just based on whether it has day, date or etc functions?
