The title says it all. Anyone out there know of someone in the United States that's willing to fix a rep with an Asian 21J movement? Most of the better watchsmiths here (The Zigmeister, Vac, et al), seem to shy away from them due to lack of parts or inherent problems with those movements. I'm looking to get a watch fixed that has some sentimental value. Feel free to PM as well.

I know that this doesn't pertain to watches, but given the large number of European members here, I was wondering how many of you are dealing with the recent crises in the European markets -- the freefall of the European exchanges, the Greece disaster, the fall in the Euro, and so forth. Although we've had similiar moves in our markets here in the United States, the average American seems blissfully unaware of what's going on in the Eurozone.

That's pretty easy to figure out. The 249 is ubercool with it's California dial; the 232 is just another... Radiomir.

The color of the dial on the rep is a flat, boring midnight blue. I've seen the gen in person and both dials look very different in appearance. In fact, the genuine looks almost iridescent with an almost two-tone appearance. It's striking and really makes the watch. As far as the AR goes, the watch was advertised by a well known collector as having double AR and I received an e-mail stating that it would have double AR. Needless to say, mine has a strong coating of SINGLE AR. If I could take better pictures (I'm fairly limited to the camera on my phone right now), they would show the same sort of reflections as seen in lanikai's shots. So, buyer beware. On a more positive note, the watch is keeping time to within 3 seconds a day, which is impressive for an Asian 7750.

I got mine in the mail recently -- supposedly the "newest version" with "double AR." As Angus (Puretime) mentioned to me via e-mail, as far as he knew, the Laureus Spitfire chronograph was still only being produced with single sided AR. Unfortunately, that was the version that I got dropshipped in the mail from another dealer, despite assurances that I would get the double AR version. Otherwise, it's a pretty nice watch. The dial is a flat navy blue, unlike the gen, which has a sort of "two tone" combination of flat and more iridescent blue. The dial markings are otherwise correct and the lume is fairly decent for a rep -- all the number light up in the dark. The high-beat Asian 7750 movement seems to be keeping good time thus far. I'm pretty happy with this one, but I think the 3717-01 is more aesthetically pleasing.

I've heard that the genuine rubber straps will fit the Cousteau (from posts involving people with mega size wrists who needed bigger straps). I would assume that the bracelet would as well.

I love my Cousteau 2007 (been wearing it for the last two weeks), but I had to do some modding (like replacing the Asian movement with a Swiss 7750). The ETA SFSO is a much better rep out of the box.

It's the current version of the Valjoux 7753 equipped PAM 196. I have the same watch. As others have indicated, the real PAM 196 does not have recessed subdials and is one of the flaws of this watch, in addition to the inaccurate case. The original (first generation 7753) dial is nearly impossible to source out.

Hi, I'm trying to find ways to minimize reflections with some of the aftermarket cyclopes available for the Panerai reps (Chieftangs, Lello's, et al). I remember reading Silver Surfer's experience with coating the inner side of a cyclopsed crystal that did improve the readability of his cyclops. However, has anyone tried to double AR coat a sapphire crystal and then apply the cyclops? Are there still reflections?

Given the fact that most cyclopses are mounted on the inside, I'm assuming that Chieftang's single sided AR coating is placed on the outside of the crystal?

The 7753 version comes with a crappy coating of single AR. The modified 7750 version doesn't come with any AR.

Panerai AR is single sided and on the inside only. You may want to do a search of previous threads, as this has been discussed heavily in the past.

Ironically, that's what Panerai does with the gens. Unfortunately, as you stated, the rep factory didn't get the dimensions correct -- probably because they didn't have a gen on hand.
