dieselpower
I am starting the exciting task of gathering parts for a 6263 project and am looking into cases. Since I last immersed myself in this there seem to be many more options. Does anybody know how many different asymetric 6263 cases are being produced now and which ones are to be avoided? A while ago it seemed your only choice was DW or very expensive Vietnamese cases. I bought an EE6263 complete watch long after they were no longer produced but I have now sold it so the hunt is on. All info and advice greatly appreciated.

gplracer
M do you want a case for V72 or 7750?
dieselpower
@ gplracer It is possible to fit a 7750 movement in a V72 case. Therefore I will buy a V72 case.
freddy333
It is possible to fit a 7750 movement in a V72 case. Therefore I will buy a V72 case. It is possible, but it requires a good bit of reshaping inside the case. Unless you are looking for a project, I would order a 7750 caseset. If you plan to disable the auto-wind & remove the rotor to turn the movement into a faux manual-wind as explained here, then you should ask DW to include a V72 caseback with your case. gplracer
Also, for some reason the 7750 cases are much cheaper. You might want to save all the headaches and fet it from Spin.
dieselpower
Thanks for the sound advice to all. I have one other question. If I go for a DW 7750 case with V72 caseback (which is basically what I had before selling it!) can I eventually remove the 7750 movement and drop a V72 in the same case? I realise that this means new dial and hands - which I already have in my parts bin. Cheers.
freddy333
If I go for a DW 7750 case with V72 caseback (which is basically what I had before selling it!) can I eventually remove the 7750 movement and drop a V72 in the same case? It all depends on your particular case since there is a bit of case-to-case variation. In my experience, I would expect that it will NOT be a simple movement swap. In most cases, you will need to mod (grind/polish) the inside of the case to get the other movement to align/fit properly. But, again, whether or how much work would be required is impossible to say because of the variations in construction.

Dizzy
What about a DW with the mystery movement?? obviously you can put in a V23 as the mystery movement is sort of a V23 copy, but can you put in a V72 into the mystery movement case?? I would almost want to assume the v23 and v72 are about the same size and shape? My thinking is that stem position may be higher or lower on one or the other?? I like my DW so far and when the movement dies I will swap in a V23... accurate enough for me.. Im not going to try to pass it off as a gen when i sell it and i have no use for the chronographs other than the fact that its a cool watch to look at. I dont really see the need to go to a V72 but it would be interesting as an option if a movmt became available. dizz
