Trusty Newbie Submariner Explorer 1

Was looking at purchasing a new rep. How are the Newbie Submariner and the Explorer 1 from trusty?? Are they fairly accurate?? Any major flaws?

Your question is too broad.

Noob submariners have been around as long as you have, if not longer and there's tons written on them. They're OK as an entry level sub, but there are better models out there these days, but accordingly more expensive.

Which Explorer I did you have in mind, vintage or modern?

the 'cartel' 'Swiss' model is really difficult to spot,

it's one of the best REP around.

I've got a 1016 from andrew and yes the wis' can tell it's a rep but it's damn good to the eye and a fine timepiece.

I really like the vintage Explorers. I just need some one to point me down the right road to get one. Or someone to run down the list of parts I would need to build one using rolex parts as some have mentioned.. Or one that is currently for sale at the moment.

Depending on your price level, there are only three out-of-the-box vintage Explorers to consider:

At $100, there's Narikaa's 21J Explorer: Standard classic Datejust rep with a great dial for the price. Drill lugholes for a superb 1016 on a budget.

At $248, Trusty's 1016 comes with a very good dial, a much nicer movement, and drilled lugholes. Shame they're too small and in the wrong place, but no one will notice--except you.

At ~$360, find someone (like Narikaa) to buy you an MBK 1016, which is hands-down the best vintage Explorer out of the box. Excellent dial, a much better and more authentic-looking case, and correctly-placed (but still too small) lugholes. However, like the other two, its dimensions are not identical to an actual 1016, so forget about changing the crystal.

Beyond that, it's franken country.
