danza1812 Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Great pics. Was the starter watch an ETA clone or ETA version? I'm planning to get one for gen dial/hands mod. The gen strap fits perfectly? I have a 4th gen and the strap I tried flipped out (could have been a rep strap but was sold as gen). Mine is a gen eta. Not the clone. It's now with Domi getting datewheel and gen crystal installed too! Can't wait to get it back.

Not too sure of the quality of the gen ETA's from the dealers so I tend to save the money and buy a clone. I figure if it gives me trouble down the road I can swap in a guaranteed ETA from Ofrei. Strap fits just fine. You have to use the right spring bars, and may have to fiddle with it a bit to get them to engage, but the gaps around the case etc. are good.
Wayward Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 And there's also the pride in knowing that you put it together from bits. You know the workings inside and out...there is something to be said for that! 4th Gen PO with all the mods... Nice!
Juice5610 Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Also how difficult to do are these mods? I'm a newbie should I even attempt it?
ryaku Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 If you're a total newbie...forget it, especially if you have to handle gen delicate parts like dial and hands
cougar1 Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 OP, or anyone else for that matter! Slightly off topic but seeing as you dismantled the watch could you tell me are the end lug areas on the case of these 5th gens perfectly polished or brushed so that it would take an after market strap i.e. leather or maratac or something.... and not look ridiculous with half finished machine marks on the end link area of the case?
deja Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 just some clarification.. does the 5th gen po take genuine parts like the 4th gen?
Wayward Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 just some clarification.. does the 5th gen po take genuine parts like the 4th gen? Yes...and from what I can see, it doesn't need a gen tube as the rep one seems correct.
Jetpac Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Yes...and from what I can see, it doesn't need a gen tube as the rep one seems correct. Am i right in saying parts are only interchangable if you get the swiss movement version rather than the DG? Im still on the fence trying to justify buying one!

arizac Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Hey, anyone knows the part number of the crown and tube? I'm planning replacing them with gen ones...do these genuine parts will fit the 5th version 42mm PO?
