Watchmeister Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Don't know if it is the time of the year but I have gotten several requests for pics by folks contemplating building Fiddy frankens. Ignore the crappy photography. This one was built several years ago, gets a lot of wear and as you can see is anything but a safe queen. What makes this one a little different is that it is made with the first generation of dial and crystal (first 350 or so pieces). As many people know there were 2-3 runs of dials and crystals with the initial runs of both dial and crystal being noticeably more primitive. Interestingly Eddie based his original dial after this first type. The Case and CG: The infamous "notch" and lug profile: And the obligatory wrist shot:
projectologist Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 The Father of all PAM frankens to follow... classic stuff! Thanks for posting the pics
TK471 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Stunning, as always. Thanks for sharing these pics. Gen movement as well?
Watchmeister Posted January 3, 2011 Author Report Posted January 3, 2011 Thanks for the nice thoughts. And yes, it does have a gen movement. Can't take credit for this pic though. Ziggy snapped a quick one for me back when he originally mounted the movement.
TK471 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 I'm glad that one's not a safe queen. It's awesome, and should be worn.
Watchmeister Posted January 3, 2011 Author Report Posted January 3, 2011 Yeah, no safe queens for me. Heck, I don't have the safe.
TK471 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Yeah, no safe queens for me. Heck, I don't have the safe. No safe? I'll be by in a couple of hours!!

pabler Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Simply perfect! Congrats, and it would be a pity she couldn't see the sun light.
capice Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 looks amazing wm,havent had mine on the wrist for a time
Watchmeister Posted January 23, 2011 Author Report Posted January 23, 2011 Thanks guys. It is now several years since I built it but it will stick with me until my wrist can't hold it up.
Adz Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Who sources and installs movements in these bad boys?
Watchmeister Posted February 9, 2011 Author Report Posted February 9, 2011 Who sources and installs movements in these bad boys? You have to keep your eyes out for a movement. Any competent watchsmith can install the movement as it fits the existing movement ring and case. Ziggy did my work.
cloner4 Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 nice gen cg too, since the gen cg has little squares and not dots
Panny162 Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 I have looked at this thread 200 timeS in 2 days. Lovely lovely piece. Thanks for Sharing and helping!
haveblue Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 W, Thanks for posting this....it really is a beautiful piece.....continue to wear it well!!! When my Fiddy grows up, it wants to be like yours. :D
Watchmeister Posted February 11, 2011 Author Report Posted February 11, 2011 Thanks for the kind thoughts. in fairness this one was built years ago before there was massive competition for parts and even before Panerai had centralized it's parts and repairs in Texas. Ever wonder why the original Risti's were able to get outrageous parts.
