Most of the people I think they say to have it in the adjusting position when you do it. If I remember correctly The Zigmeister says to do it when in winding position so I do it that way following The Zigmeisters advice. The right way to do it is to wind down the spring and leave it in the winding position, but most non-experts (myself included) will use the setting position so the hands stop moving the cheap way.
