Bryce86
Having just booked a holiday to Hong Kong I recently started looking in to buying a replica watch. Looking through the Internet I came across this forum and a few other and I must say I'm impressed with the look of some of these replica watches. Question is; owning a genuine IWC and being able to appreciate it's craftsmanship and feel (on and off wrist), how do these replica watches compare? Theres obviously significant savings to be made, but do they feel any less? Particular watches I'm interested in are the Panerai Pam00359, Pam00375 and anything large in the IWC I.e. Pilots style. Many thanks Bryce Also, could there be even more of a saving to be made in HK, obviously not down the ladies Market though....
StormTooper4
Yes there will be a difference but it can be quite minimal especially on the quality replicas. Sometimes a bit of a cap cod cloth rub down will smooth the edges if required. The new panerai are very well made. You will need to invest $ in a new strap though. The Big Pilots are good except the Anti Reflective coat isn't the same and the Power Reserve a dummy one. The crown tubes though are a different issue altogether. You need to try one yourself then you can decide
penaduny
well. this is hard to answer because of how picky i am. i will say that after every replica gets to me in the mail, i look up who sells the brand in my area. i take it there, tell them that i got it on ebay and just want to make sure that its real. they pull out the genuine watch put them side by side, feel mine., look at it with the hoop and every time they always: compliment my watch, say that without opening it it definitely is real, ask how much i got it for, and then say that i have a hell of a timepiece.. i have never had anyone say that my watches have been fake. Jkay
Normally, savings can *not* be had by going direct to China. The merchants you deal with have no reason to trust you and no reason to give you a break of any kind. You can see if a forum merchant will meet you in person, and bring you a case full of watches to inspect. You will receive a volume discount, most likely if you purchase several at once. Take them to lunch, or something and discuss business over drinks.
Bryce86
Thanks for the replies and advice so far. Jkay- I notice in one of your threads you have both genuine and rep Panerai. How do they compare?
Jkay
Hi! You must have me confused with someone else. My two Panerai are a normal Cartel dealers 1950 and a custom build 6152. No gen Panny here.
Nanuq
You're in luck with vintage Rolex, as their bracelets are so cheap and tinny they feel like the real thing!
ds99mks
I think it cannot be stressed enough how important the source for your rep is. I mean feel-wise, quality reps from quality dealers are generally almost spot on, but it's always the little details that separate them from the gen, e.g. hour markers, lume quality, dial print etc.. Honest dealers disclose these details without hesitation. Quite honestly, only rep collectors like the lads here would know these inaccuracies anyway. The average guy on the street would simply say "nice watch"..

Jkay
Thank You, Still new in the Forum and can't seem to be able to find things. That's not problem. Here is the area you need to go. http://www.rwg.cc/forum/230-watches-clothing-accessories/ You will find there the merchants for soft goods (leather, clothes, shoes), watches, watch tools, and custom strap makers. Dealers here have to be trustworthy. Anyone on the list can be safely dealt with.
