PhilFree
I think the forums are better than any watch magazine. For example Watch time is really geared towards the high end market. While they have wonderful articles and from time to time they may have an article on a Seiko, Doxa, or Hamilton, many times the articles are geared towards the luxury market. Forums are very well rounded and you will find much more information.
Bardamu
I don't know about US magazines, but in France it is very poor. Two or three magazines exist, but the content is : 50% advertising, 45% so called "information" which actually looks like press release from brands (those which have ads in the magazine, of course), 5% real information or analysis (but, of course, never critical with brands advertising in the magazine). So it's perfect if you want to see nice pictures, or know about the new models from big luxury brands, without spending hours on internet. But if you want real information with analysis and comments, or if you want to know about horlogical history, or about mecanism... it's on the web ! Nothing can replace internet forums for this. ExtraExtra
Depends on what you want out of it. I started with the monthly subscription then found the annuals like watches international, the swiss watchmaking year and wristwatch annual. I just stuck with the annuals and threw out all the monthlies.
StormTooper4
Revolution is one of the best http://revo-online.com/issue.html I always get a copy of this in SIngapore But Plaza Watch is my favorite , as its basically cool as @#$% Watch Time and those USA mags are just Ad runs with the odd sports star thrown in and a bit dull. Plaza is in a league of its own, exceptional Photography , these guys love watches http://www.plazawatch.com/ http://trendland.net...atch-magazine/#

automatico
WatchTime will have a good technical article now and then but they are first and foremost a shill for (mostly Swiss) watch companies...making them out to be Super Heroes when in reality they are not much more than a bunch of crooks (imho). I call is as I see it. There are some good hardbacks such as the Hess/Dowling rolex books etc. Also a few Omega books, one titled 'Omega Designs' but it is mostly a picture book. If you want to learn about the mechanics of watches and not just the hype... Buy a couple repair manuals, a basic tool kit, and dig in on junkers...or hang around a watch repair shop with real watch mechanics. The problem is most local repair shops today are battery swappers. I live in an area of about 500,000 and there is only ONE real watch mechanic still working and he only takes in work if you have known him 25 years. Turnaround is 6 months+. I waited over a year on the last job he did for me (1919 Illinois 'Abe Lincoln' RR pocket watch restoration...nos case/dial etc). Cost = $0. Hard to beat. Watchmeister
ST- Thanks for the Plazawatch suggestion. I hadn't ever seen it before. Of the traditional ones I have looked at I always enjoyed Revolution as well. It looks like they are just now offering a mobile version via the Apple Store? Am I reading that correctly on their website?
