Nanuq
The "official" reading at Jim River almost hit -80F but the battery in the weather station apparently died. http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/01/30/bitter-cold-records-broken-in-alaska-all-time-coldest-record-nearly-broken-but-murphys-law-intervenes/ So how do they explain this reading taken last winter? Nanuq
Was this station using a land rover battery instead of the little cr123a ? If it was using a Land Rover battery you'd know it... there would be oil leaking from it. Hey Mike, -80F is nothing. Accounting for wind chill, I used to work outside at temps waaaay below that. The coldest was estimated at -135F because the wind chill charts don't go that low.
