Issue with member in France - PrDubis - no response and out a watch / $$

I bought an IWC Porto from Prdubis at the beginning of December. I received it and immediately noticed that the seconds at six hangs up (it had been rebuilt / serviced with graphite mod and was supposedly running well, though not upon receipt). I contacted Francois and informed him of the issue...considered having it serviced but ultimately decided to send it back. He agreed to accept the watch back for a full refund. The return watch was received by him on January 9th. On January 12th I received a response that he was out of town until the 22nd and would send the refund then. Now we're at the 6th of February and I've received no communication from him, yet have sent multiple emails and PM's to him. He logged in to RWG on the 25th so I believe him to be back in his country.

I'd rather not publicly flog a member, but am at a loss as to what to do at this point. I've never had issues before after several years so maybe I can consider myself lucky. Now i'm out $550 for a modded IWC Porto and I have no watch.

I've contacted mods regarding this and they have given me the go ahead to post publicly. This is a last resort and one I hope results in a resolution.

I have his contact info if anyone is local and can give him a ring.

Hi folks,

I'm REALLY sorry having to dump on a member, all the more since the sales was over at RWGjr and not here @RWI, but trailboss99 encouraged me to tell the full story here for two reasons: 1) the member in question is also a member here 2) till now two different RWGjr. mods for weeks didn't do anything about this matter, i.e. haven't even read my PMs, which is not what you would expect from a forum mod, now is it? You nice RWI folks here should simply know about the story, and make up your own mind.

So, here's the story. To make this utmost transparent I will simply copy my PM from DEC 28 to the 2nd mod @RWGjr. that still is unread & unanswered:

Hi By-Tor,

I'm really sorry for addressing you directly, for having to take this matter to you, but member PrDubis refused to clarify the matter between ourselfs.

I already sent this to admin "ADMIN" on DEC 21st, but he hasn't read it yet, so I was hoping you could maybe help out here.....? Or is there an admin here on RWG that takes care of problems with member-to-member trades?

In short: End of October 2011, PrDubis offered a MINT PAM212 watch head here on the forum. At the time I asked him a couple explicit questions about the watch condition, including any scratches and if the chronos would reset:

"Hi mate,

From where exactly is the watch? Mrs King

How old is it? About 6 months old, worn twice for 1hr each time

No scratches, dents, flaws whatsoever? Mint

How's time keeping? Perfect

Chrono's fully working and resetting to 12 o'clock *exactly*? (Hard to tell from your pics...) Perfect

LEt me now."

Since he emphasized - both in his sales thread and in answering my questions - the watch were in MINT condition, barely worn twice, and the chronos would reset perfectly. I decided to buy it (140 EURO, watch head only), and at once paid for it via Paypal. That was on NOV 26.

Aside the fact that he ignored my explicit asking for a trackable shipment, but sent it with normal french snail mail, and me ending up worrying for the safe arrival of the watch for several weeks, the watch finally arrived on December 19th(!) - wrapped in one lousy layer of bubble foil, in a much too large padded envelope.

I made photos of envelope, watch in envelope, barely unwrapped watch etc. to avoid any discussions about where a improper watch condition may come from.

Unfortunately the watch is NOT in mint (= LIKE NEW, as any dictionary will tell) condition. It has several scratches, on watch head, crown guard, glass bottom and crystal. The scratches are not severe, but they add to a non-mint impression, all the more having in mind that I paid a bleeding 140 EUR for the watch head only! Even worse: the large chrono seconds hand does not perfectly reset to 12 o'clock. Of course I can share detailed photos of all this. Needless to say, fixing all these flaws would cost a fortune.

I told all this to PrDubis and kindly asked for a comment, for a fair solution, for an offer. I finally suggested a refund of 30 EUR. I can gladly share all the PMs.

But all he did was insult me with snappy one liners, and finally said I could go to the mods if I like. He'd have a good reputation on this forum, in his eyes the watch is mint, I'd be a nit pick etc etc. Interesting enough: He does NOT DENY all the above stated facts! Go figure....

Hence, I feel kinda ripped off by PrDubis.

Now, I know I'm a newbie on this forum. I'm only a modest and decent person, who simply does not want to have this kind of trading behaviour going on here on RWG.

One more thing: I really give a sh!t about the 30 EUR refund I suggested - important is, that it's simply NOT OK, that someone explicitly lies about a watch condition to press out more money FROM A FELLOW FORUM REP COLLECTOR!!!!!

To be crystal clear here: I will most gladly donate the 30 EUR to the forum, if PrDubis refunds me.

Thank you very much for your time, By-Tor. Of course, I'd really appreciate it if you could somehow support in solving this conflict, for example by contacting the seller and talking some sense into him....

Thanks again,

this

The guy is a douche. I dealt with him a year or two back and it took MONTHS to get a measly deployant clasp. He had multiple excuses until I harrassed, shitted on his threads, and bombing his PM box, before he got me what I paid for.

I hope yours works out!

Second:

sneed12 I've been taken only once in the 6 months or so that I've been active in the hobby. I feel reasonably lucky.

Watch out for PrDubuis on RWG, though.

A lot of members, here @ RWG and on the other boards, would strongly disagree with that statement...which is why I prefer to keep a low profile and browse... :)

Kind of a shitty deal. Fortunately I paid with my CC and I also sent it as a standard payment as opposed to a gift. Maybe I'll actually be protected here, we'll see.

Just goes to show that a member with 1500+ posts...well I still want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but at the end of the day, I'm the one left holding the bag on this deal.
