Heywood Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 It looks like the case back has some serious corrosion, I'd be worried about possible water intrusion. If the price is right you could always send it out to Rolex for a service and have the caseback replaced.

simonporsche Posted February 23, 2012 Author Report Posted February 23, 2012 Yeah that will be the gunk and possible a bit of the now dry gasket, it's not be serviced since purchase ('84), so s service will be needed. If I sent it to Rolex would they do anything stupid like change the hands or dial?

For instance, I wanted service papers for a watch I knew was gen, but didn't have the paperwork for -- I sent the watch in and sent specific instructions to service the movement only. In your case, you could send it in for service and possible caseback replacement if deemed defective, but not to touch anything else.

simonporsche Posted February 23, 2012 Author Report Posted February 23, 2012 The watch has been used as intended, the engraving is in reference to a marine company and it was used by their diver apparently. Explains the wear I guess. I've also been told its never been serviced, there's a date on the inside of the CB which refers to 1989, am I right?

What's your views on the risk of that? Also here's a link to one I have my eye on. Any feed back is greatly appreciated. duke1973 Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 Going with a 16600 will save you some cash, the triple 6 commands a higher price. I've seen some go for upwards of $10k!
