w0lf Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 Hiya, After some much needed downtime, the thought of building another logo seemed like would be a nice start for 2013. I also had a couple of new ideas that I couldn't wait to try on my next iteration of this build. It's still in progress and the log pics won't be very good because I work at night and photography is definitely not a priority for me. But hopefully they will give you an idea of things to try or ask your favorite modder to implement on your next PreV build. I won't bore you with the details of the case shaping that you have seen many times before; if not you can pull them up here. One of the things I wanted to try was making a correct PreV-look handstack. Only the top of the genuine PreV hand is painted while the edge and a the inside of the hand tube are exposed brass. This is also essential for the "grimy pinion" as the oxidized minute hand tube reflects off the mirror polished cannon at the edge where the cannon pinion is slightly convex and sits a hair beneath the hand hub. This watch is also going to sport a genuine bezel, you can see how much thicker the OEM gasket is by comparison. Caseback had also been a gripe of mine since none of the aftermarket makers bothered with proper facet and lip finish. For this build I will be using a DW caseback, its engraving needs to be color-filled by enamel, but it's a small price to pay for having a nice and thick profile. Polishing of the lip and facets. Since there have been no backplates for FGD dials for the last two years, rather than destroying a sandwich dial (which are almost never the right diameter BTW and still need to get turned) I made my own from sheet brass. I'm now working on the crown guard, full fit and finish so stay tuned!
Rolexman Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 Cool project you have going on.... Can't wait for the update. Some real craftsmanship!
jbetts1790 Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 This will be a pretty epic build! Looking forward to your progress
ogladio Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Wow, those hands!! And here I was thinking it was rust appearing on the sides, but of course makes perfect sense that it's just pure brass. Looking forward to more updates here mate, that cg looks promising btw
Watchmeister Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Very cool project. Those hands and the CG are going to take this one to a whole new level. can't wait for the continuing pics.
ubiquitous Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Phenominal! Taking it to the next level!
Inertiadrifter Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Wow I need to start saving in case you decided to sell this baby
mbenz Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 I envy U for turning this hobby into arts.
Watchmeister Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Stunning. Someone should be begging him to sell it.
Guest zeleni kukuruz Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 [censored] me!!! God damn, im out of words!
ubiquitous Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 Felt compelled to give your handstack modification a go last night. Makes for a nice, very subtle difference; not one that immediately stands out, but it's the small details that count Some quick (read: not great) shots this morning... Distortion from the crystal + shallow DoF makes the hand look curved
vlydog Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 Nicely done! Makes me yearn for my ol' logo.
mt666tm Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 I'm loving the hand mod, a very nice touch... I just had my 202 apart the other day when I re-matted the dial, I wish I did this then. Oh well, 201 and 202 are both gonna get this treatment soon. Let's see some more pics on some Pre-V leather!
