empire Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 So I have a friend who is selling me his Brietling Navitimer. He has had it for a few years and when he bought it everything seemed legit. Now that I am about to pay him a lot for it, I want to make sure it is real. I DID read Andrews guide which was VERY helpful, but big purchases make me really nervous. As proof I read the guide here are some things that make me believe it is genuine... 1. The outer wheel numbers are close the the edge, you could definitely NOT fit 2 on top of each other. 2. The date for the 4th takes up the entire date opening and matched the font i see on genuine pics 3. the groves on the case are deep and much better then the rep i use to have, also a bit harder to turn where as my rep was loose. 4. It has a model number and serial number, is there an easy way to take that info and look it up? 5. The outer circle is also more silvery then pure white. 6. The lume is incredible and my buddy knows nothing about the rep watch market so he wouldn't be the guy who would buy one and then get it modded or even know where or how to do that. My cautions: 1. Only one really is how everyone says to watch out for a sunken date wheel. It looks a little sunken but I am not sure how deep it is supposed to be? Thoughts?!?!
empire Posted May 16, 2013 Author Report Posted May 16, 2013 oh man that pic makes me feel so much better. Looks pretty much exact unless I am missing something obvious. The Date wheel on yours puts a lot of my worry at ease. Thank you for posting that!
krpster Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Yup, looks Gen to me too.I have the rep, its good, but not that good. Quite easy to spot and the one you have pictured is nothing like it.
SSTEEL Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Looks spot on to me too. Let us know how the purchase goes. Does your friend not have the original paperwork for it?
empire Posted May 16, 2013 Author Report Posted May 16, 2013 Thanks for the feedback! Very excited about my first gen, I LOVE this watch and hate that the rep isn't that great, so I have been trying to get my hands on a gen for a while. One last question, the crowns on this watch to not screw in like the superocean right? On this one it seems it just pulls out and pushes in, and winds in the pushed in position. As for paperwork and box, he said he does have it somewhere and is happy to give it to me, he just has to find it. That doesn't surprise me, the guy loses everything. I have known him for years and was never worried that HE would rip me off, more that at one point in his life he got ripped off. He doesn't know much about watches so that was my only concern. All that being said, the strap is in pretty rough shape as the leather was never cared for over the years, where is the best place to grab a new gen strap? Thanks again for all your help!
hansmeier Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Navitimer don't have a screw-in-crown, so just to pull out & push back! Congrats to your new watch, she's looking awesome!
