Beginner watch repair & technical books recommendations

I notice many members here have a moderate to very good knowledge about the mechanical side of the watch hobby. I too would like to learn some more about mechanical watch repair and maintenance, for example how to replace movements, oil them, remove hands (would like to try my hand at reluming at some point).

I suppose most knowledge would have been learned from books. Are there any recommendations on where to start? I did a google search but there are quite a lot of books about this, although most seem advanced and old.

I highly recommend Amateur Watchmaking, it's the best book about this subject I have found so far.

I'd say most learn right here from this forum via diy threads - have a look about! And yes.. As I know no good books, please advice if you find one

Begin with Timezone's 2-part watch school & then read deCarle's Practical Watch Repairing, which should keep you busy.

I really want to get into this as well. But where would I find the time?

This would be my ultimate hobby but my life is a bit too hectic right now to practice. I might be able to get the reading in, but the hands on aspect would require an overhaul of my life!

Very intersting topic. Really want to learn this myself. I guess I'll need an internship with MD2020
