Steelfish clasp issues!

Ok so Trusty has come through in record time, purchased last Friday and received in the UK today... total of 6 days. Very happy with watch, the dial is beautiful and I wont be taking this one off... literally as the clasp is a load of garbage!

Ok so the issue is that the clasp is extremely tough to close, I noticed it's about 1 - 2mm short so it doesn't snap into position when closing. When I do force it shut then it's almost impossible to open with your fingers. I've emailed Andrew immediately but no reply yet, was just hoping to get a new clasp but not sure how feasible that will be. Anybody know a quick fix, tried a dab of WD40 but that doesn't help either. attached some pics with a quick wristie all off my phone.

On a positive note the Steelfish is by far the nicest rep I now own... even compared to HBB V6 and Super Avenger :partytime:

Great to hear your watch arrived so quickly :)

Unfortunately, despite the fact that the rep bracelet is actually quite nice the clasp is fairly shocking. The clasp on my SeaWolf was only marginally better than yours and try as I might I couldn't adjust the clasp to work as intended.

I looked everywhere for a reasonably priced gen Avenger clasp to no avail so I ended up just ordering a gen Pro 2 bracelet from eBay.

I still couldn't find the exact one that I wanted however it looks fairly good and the clasp is superb.

It's a shame that a new gen clasp is such a difficult part to source.

My recommendation would be that if Trusty sends a new clasp and it proves to be far better then great, otherwise you may need to do as I and others have done and just opt for a gen bracelet.

I echo what Benjamin states, Andrew could send you a replacement clasp, and before sending he can arrange for it to be tested to ensure its working as intended.

When I had a problem with my TT Sub C Glidelock from Andrew, he sent me a complete bracelet to solve the problem :)

Thank you gents for your kind input. I'm slightly annoyed as my girlfriend bought it for my birthday and was hoping to get a good example but as we all know the rep game can be hit and miss at times.

I totally agree B3n the bracelet is actually really nice but the clasp is absolutely shocking. the Breitling stamp looks like a 2 yr old carried out the etching and the clasp is so misaligned it's virtually impossible to open and close, I don't think there is any saving it.

Update - Andrew has responded with this 'Use a pair of pliars and a small cloth to adjust. It should be ok to work OK'

I'm assuming he wants me to use pliars to widen the gap to allow clearance for the nub to click into place? if so that's not going to happen. I will see whether he will source a clasp. If not I have a watch I can't wear!!! :angry2:

No you don't use pliers to widen the gap. You use pliers to adjust the curvature of the arm portion of the clasp. I found this out adjusting a deployant clasp. I didn't like the curve so I tried to adjust it to fit better and in doing so it would go from closing and not locking, to closing and locking too tight, to not even closing.

Where are you located? If in the US pm me your address. I have a working clasp. The fold over part that says Breitling 1884 is a little messed up on the corner but the part that is jacked up on yours works perfect so between the one you have and the one I will send you you should be able to make 1 functioning clasp.

All you need to do is adjust the curvature of one of the two curved link arms of the deployant. It is pretty straight forward to do and does not require pliers. If the locking tab is falling short of the slot then I would suggest a slight adjustment to the middle single link section. All you need to do is take a bit of the curve out of it which will effectively lengthen it allowing the locking tab to engage. Tweaking the clasp curvature is far easier than swaping parts, clasps and so on and will give you the result you are looking for.

Than you very much for the offer of the clasp.

Luckily for me Andrew came through and sent me a full bracket with clasp to replace my current one!! Clasp on this one closes perfectly but just my luck and without sounding ungrateful the breitling logo stamping on this one simply terrible. Basically on the arm with the large breitling stamp I can only make out breit as the remaining letters are barely stamped in! Not a big deal but things like that bug me. As I now have 2 sets I may try and swap the parts around to make the perfect clasp lol. I'll post some pics once I'm back from my weekend holiday.
