But I'm in a jam: Five months ago, I bought a rep Moonwatch with the ST19 movement from Silix. The watch looked good (with one small imperfection: the logo was slightly off center.) And it kept excellent time. I really, really liked it. But a few days ago, it quit winding. Apparently the mainspring (I'm sure I'm using the wrong terminology) has broken or come unattached. I was always very careful about winding it because I have read that's a weakness with this movement, and because unlike my other watches, it never had that getting-tighter feeling as you approached fully wound. So I was always careful to count the number of winds I was giving it, and slow down when I was getting near the end. I was careful. Anyway, five months and it's kaput. Pretty disappointed about that. I have written Silix three times asking if it can be repaired or replaced. I have gotten no reply. Pretty disappointed about that too. Two questions: 1. Does someone have a better email address or means of contacting them? I am using the address that "Michelle" used when corresponding with me at the time of purchase. 2. Assuming I never hear from Silix, do you think this movement can be repaired here in the Seattle area, or will repairmen turn their noses up at it? Or just as likely, will they be unable to get a part or parts for it? I'd sure appreciate any guidance you can provide. I'm hoping that going the replica route was not a huge mistake ... kernow Posted October 23, 2014 Report Share Posted October 23, 2014 It's unlikely that the TD will help after that amount of time. You're better off tracking down a local watchsmith who'll work on reps. Failing that there are a few watchsmiths on here who'll most likely be able to help. I'll know shortly whether something's just come loose, or is broken (in which case, parts can't be had, more than one repairman told me). Fingers crossed. Resistor Posted October 24, 2014 Report Share Posted October 24, 2014 I had that happen with an Alpha Daytona, which uses the same movement. It was an easy fix for a forum member over at WUS. My local repairman has been trying to find a spring for the watch but so far hasn't had luck. I'm certain it's a Seagull ST19, but he says there are no internal identifying markings, nothing to go on, so he's had to do some detective work and hasn't been successful. Bc1221 Posted November 17, 2014 Report Share Posted November 17, 2014 Seagull doesn't sell parts. I believe the click spring from a bergeon click spring pack is the only one that works. Never had the problem myself but did a ton of research when I found out about the weakness. Keep us updated.
