Kime
I have business trip in 2 weeks to Houston, does anyone have any recommendations for vintage rlx dealers that might be worth visiting?
alligoat
I have yet to pick up a vintage Rolex here in Houston, and I live here! Hal Martins is a store over on Westheimer- usually their prices seem high. You can find them online at Halmartins.com. There's a guy up on North Main in a pawn shop, but he's on ebay also- Rick$Amy http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-DAytona-116523-18K-SS-Cosmograph-F-Serial-95-Timepiece-Papers-/181436606885?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item2a3e76e9a5 He's had some vintage stuff from time to time, but no bargains. There's a few pawn shops down in the Montrose area that might be worth checking. I have found Bernard Watch up in Austin to be more reasonably priced. I bought my R serial 16610 from them a few years ago. I also watch VRM fairly regularly.
Kime
Thanks for info, being in the UK, it is virtually impossible to avoid the 20% import charges when shipping from the US, everything is checked these days, so even avoiding that is a discount ! alligoat
Reminds me of the Americans who go to Switzerland and buy a Rolex and wear it home- avoid the duty charges that way! It certainly seems to me like prices in the USA are less than in England and the EU.
dieselpower
A friend of mine has just emigrated to USA from UK and he says that prices are basically the same in $ as they are in £. So, we are being fleeced in the UK. However, he did say that the only thing he has found to be more expensive in the USA is a haircut! Go figure! turbodog
Houston Gold Exchange owner is a Rolex collector. He has some nice items and is helpful if you are searching for something in particular. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
panerai153
If the oil prices stay down in the $ 50's for a few months, there may well be some bargain Rolex watches around in the Houston area. Since Houston is the world epicenter of Rolex watches, and they are a favorite of oil men, when the crunch hits, seems like lots of used ones hit the market. Back in the 1980's when Houston was devastated by the oil crunch, I heard that folks were selling their 18K Rolex "Presidents" in droves. You may be a few months too early this time around!!
